But did it blow up???
Hi Tim.
But did it blow up???
Breaking news! CPU's make noise, especially when held close to the ear.
The crazy part is when I use my phone at a normal distance and not pressed against my ear I don't hear anything.
How loud is the noise? Is is a faint sound or is it unmistakable? Can confirm, happens with my 7+ 128GB AT&T. Can hear it on videos I record and when using the phone. So far my wife's phone (7+ 128GB AT&T) doesn't make the hiss.

The chip is melting.Since there are no actual moving components on the chip, it's still unclear what could be making the noise.
I have 2 iPhone 4's and an iPhone SE... none of them hiss, period.
Thank you for fulfilling #5 on the roadmap. The sooner we get to #15 the sooner those affected will receive a solution.
It's just power usage by the chip. All circuit boards make noise to some degree. In fact, a lot of cool sidechannel attacks to getting around encryption are based on listening to the noise, even when less than audible to a bare human ear.The chip is melting.![]()
Because when I record a video with my phone, there's a whine in the audio. Not the normal quiet static you hear when turning the volume up. One that is not present on an iPhone 6s. I don't know about you, but if I start hearing *beeeeeeeeeeepbeeepbeeeeep* in my videos under normal circumstances, I will return the phone. How does anyone think this is an issue? If you put the BACKSIDE of the phone up to your ear you can hear something very softly. So what? Can you please find something to complain about that actually matters? Maybe complain to apple how cupping your ears makes you hear the ocean. #oceangate
What a bunch of drama queens.
You used the EXACT phrase as I put in the roadmap. It was classic.mungus WOT??? mungus WOT??? mungus WOT????!!!
Drama queen was to euphemistic. Victim complex is more like it.

Right now I've just been playing around with tests, so the beeping and whining isn't real world usage.
Please, try to have some sense, read the actual reports, and try to put yourselves in their shoes. It's always easy to mock people when you don't have any problems.
You have be in a quiet room, and shove a specific place on the back of the phone up against your ear to hear it. Can't be heard from the front. How loud is the noise? Is is a faint sound or is it unmistakable?

Nope. Can't hear anything. This would be impossible for a normal voice call anyway. The frequency is far above the max frequency for voice calls. Even if the noise made it to the mic, it's going to be low-passed out.Or if you're on a conference call trying to use the speakerphone and people are complaining about the "weird buzzing sound" on the line -- above and beyond the normal VOIP annoyances -- you got a problem.
It's not the processor, processors don't make noise.
This explains everything. It's due to inductors in the logic board

Still doesn't make you not a drama queen.

Not much into conspiracy theories, but that sounds like it could be plausible..... with so much cynicism going around lately about manufacturer's motives, it's easy to believe anything at this point......Was Apple aware of such an issue before launch and in an effort to reduce future returns, less stock was made available until the issue is resolved and new replacement devices come online?
So hissing is fine by you? the iphone has no fan...Or people could just stop trying to find problems with things and create iGates out of them. Do people seriously have nothing better to do with their time?
If you have problems with your phone calls on your phone, take your phone to the apple store so they can get you a new phone.Drama queen, indeed, you are getting all worked up over something that you have no actual experience with.
It can be heard from the front. It need not be in a quiet room, nor do you need to have your ear pressed against the phone. I am talking about my phone, an n=1. Apocryphally, on my first conference call Monday morning after receiving the phone, people complained about noise on the line that disappeared when I muted.
That's as much as I know so far. No reason to get your panties all in a bunch.
