I just ordered my 7-128gb black via VZW app/website (Apple.com wouldn't accept my password). Showing 9/16 delivery, but, I cannot imagine that is accurate ($299 for 2 year contract).

But, it was supposed to waive the upgrade fee and did not (by ordering online). Called VZW and they stated that I have to call for a credit once the phone ships.

They do effectively make one model. The only difference between the Verizon/Sprint model and the AT&T/T-Mobile model is that the CDMA chip is disabled in the later so Apple doesn't have to pay licensing fees.
If the rumor (which will remain a rumor until someone does a detailed teardown) is accurate that Apple is now sourcing some modems (presumably non-CDMA ones) from Intel, then it is not just disabled for licensing fees. Intel isn't currently licensing the tech, so their modems don't currently have CDMA capability, period.

You can complain that Apple should have just stuck with Qualcomm for everything, but unless this is totally wrong then it's not just a software switch to save fees, the hardware doesn't exist at all.

Now, it's possible that some of the non-CDMA phones have a CDMA-capable Qualcomm chip but Apple has chosen to disable that feature so as not to create confusion, but even then at least some of them lack the hardware.

As for the original question, yes, it'd be easier to just make one version, but on the other hand Apple might be getting a better price in the short or long term by being able to source cell modems from multiple suppliers--either because Intel's chips are cheaper, or because they can use the competition to get Qualcomm to reduce their margins. So clearly the money they expect to save from multiple or different suppliers must be greater than the cost of having two sets of internals.

Got my Jet back coming between sept 26-oct 3... hope the date moves up!

I COULDN'T DO IN STORE PICK UP!!
I overslept and now screwed. Will take a shot an in store on Friday. I want that jet black baby. Might settle for black. I do wish that the other colors came with a black front option. I just don't like the white front.

Right because people complaining all over the internet that they can't order the phone they want is good PR.

Well then you would think they would have been smart enough to not have had this problem release after release.

Yes!! I have preordered, and can expect to arrive on 9/16 - my extra Lightning to 3.5mm adapter. A week before my iPhone.

The good news is that it says that the adapter will work with my iPad Air, so I can have fun shunning the headphone jack early.

OMG, to the ME, ME, ME generation with immediate gratification issues which has to wait:

There are people starving all over the world, kids being bombarded in Syria,
terrorist attacks etc.etc.

Imagine that, these people don't want iPhones, just a better life or safety!

PLEASE LEARN HOW TO WAIT.
YOU LIVED YOUR ENTIRE LIFE WITHOUT THIS PHONE.

I promise Apple will make more and you will get yours in whatever configuration you want.

In the meantime enjoy your current iPhone or phone . They still work until you get the new one (Just a wild guess)

You are on a tech forum full of tech geeks and early adopters and you are complaining about people behaving like tech geeks and early adopters? Why don't you piss under someone else's tree, this is not a place for you. Go!

That Jet Black literally flew out the window like a Jet. Already into November.
I'd be really cautious about that color - even Apple has a disclaimer on the site that it is likely to pick up visible scratches easily and should be kept in a case - which sucks for such a nice phone.

I remember all the comments here before the release, how most people claimed that the iPhone 7 is not different enough than the 6S. bla bla bla.
And now....

I live in Perth Australia. Did a preorder for in store pickup at the Perth store 8-8:30am 16/9. I'd imagine I just see a staff member upon opening and show my receipt, or they create a preorder line like they did in 2014.

I think it's highly unlikely that any Apple Store has Jet Black iPhones in stock next Friday. Even the fastest people here didn't get a delivery estimate for release day. Earliest estimates start at September 26 as far as I'm concerned.

First of all we should behave as people don't you think? and being a geek is not an excuse to be an ******* or a jerk either.

Did anyone get the "your phone is reserved message?"

My wife went to do her phone and I am assuming that becuase the account is in my name but the number was valid that it hit a snag, but they saved a phone and we have to call/order today using that code.

I am assuming and hoping that she gets the phone in normal time. (Big trip coming up that we hope to use them on)

The big advantage of taking pre-orders is they can tailor the product mix on early production, very early in the process. With two new models, five colours and 3 capacities there are 30 - ( gloss black x 2 x no 32gb) = 28.

Then there are the storage spec bumped 6S models too.

With that many models in that many countries, the logistics alone is a spectacular feat. No wonder Steve put Tim in charge.

Verizon ****ed me by rejecting my password like 3 times while ordering through the Apple Store. Now the Jet black has slipped to November.

No, you should have no issues (did this before myself), just make sure you have your AT&T SIM in it on your initial startup.

Disappointed. Tried ordering right when it opened, but unfortunately space black fornin store pickup for the plus was not available despite me being among the first to try
If you have the Apple upgrade plan you can only upgrade in store so I can't even have it shipped knowing it will be there within a certain time frame

Will have to try in store

Wish there was a waiting list for store preorders so that even if sold out day 1 you can be contacted upon subsequent shipments
