iPhone 7 May Feature Flush Camera, Stereo Speakers and Thinner Lightning Port

I have a feeling that many of you are so anxious to moan and groan and complain that you only see what you want to see and don't even bother to think or read before posting. Makes for a very entertaining but completely useless and unintelligent forum. I guess that's what you guys want.

Some people like to get their panties in a twist about rumors and can't wait for facts .
And, forget about reading comprehension.
Anybody who can think, just has to realize that the smartphone market has matured to a point that not many more improvements can be made.
Much of what Apple or Samsung do is catering to certain customer preferences and if something technological comes along (OLED, faster processor, better lens, more memory, wireless charging etc.etc.) they'll include that.

All the basic functions however remain untouched. It's still a very capable mini computer in your pocket.

Apple is just slower in implementing things. That doesn't sit well with the spec hounds.
Still wondering why they don't just switch to what is best for them.

True if you're about over-ear headphones. Earbuds however, if the weakest link fails you just gotta chuck them in the bin sadly.

I have owned nice earbud headphones with replaceable leads. Etymotics and Shure, to name a couple

And it may feature unicorns and teddy bears too.

I can't afford to 'chase the iPhone' anymore. I'll probably replace my 6+ with the iPhone 8, or the 7s...

How dare you bring reason and rational thought to this forum! ;)

My biggest complaint about the iPhone has always been the speakers, this enhancement alone is a major leap forward, hope it's true.

I'd hardly consider being the ~145th phone with stereo sound "leading the way".

I've always wondered why Apple never bothered with fake-surround sound. It's such neat tech, even the old Nintendo DS has it and it works great (makes it seem like sound is behind you in a 3D environment). Nintendo nailed it in 2004 and it would be such a nice feature when running games on an iPhone. Oh well! Mono it is!

Yeah, that technology has been around for decades. It's just a delay between L/R speakers. For example, if you delay the right speaker by 10ms (or something like that), it'll trick you into thinking the sound is coming from the far right (or left...I forget). We actually discern left/right sounds from the tiny delay that it takes to get to the other ear (we don't tell left and right by the amplitude/volume difference).

So Apple is gonna have a iPhone SE, iPhone 7, iPhone 7+ and a iPhone 7 Pro... All with different specs... Wow, its gonna be their downfall.

Apple, We want same feature on all the phones

As someone who prefers smaller phones I also wish it was the same specs for all sizes, but here's the thing... at a certain point, I realize smaller size becomes an actual physical limiting factor for features. And at that point the only way to make all sizes the same is to take AWAY features from the bigger phones.

To go off on a rant here, the other thing I'm realizing is even if that physical problem was overcome-able, whatever Apple does they can't realistically win with all consumers. If they make different sizes with different specs (as they're doing now because it's the best way to market to as many people as possible while keeping their product line as tight as possible), people will complain they want size to be the only difference, and that specs should be the same even if price is high across the board (I'm mostly in this camp). But if they agree to make all models the same except for size, people will complain it's all too expensive and they need cheaper options, especially if there are some features they don't have use for. But if Apple agrees to expand their lineup and make cheaper options for all sizes, people will complain the lineup is too big and fragmented (which would mostly affect Apple and developers but can trickle down to consumers).

The only way to appease everyone is to make a consistent lineup with 3 sizes and they're all free.

I don't mind if they change the headphone jack, but I won't buy another iphone if the lightning port serves that function.

It will result in either cable fraying, or damage to the lightning port/cable connection from being pushed back and forward when you walk with the phone in your pocket.

On the other hand, every single one of my 5+ lightning cables are either completely intact or have only minor signs of wear, while I've had a few pairs of headphones over the years die because of wear and tear towards the end of the cable.

Now, I'm not saying that to promote removing the headphone jack, I'm saying that to point out that everyone has different experiences. Sure, I could buy more expensive headphones... but $30 headphones are good enough for me. If the headphone jack gets removed, I'm content with just getting Bluetooth headphones and being done with wired headphones. But I understand that not everyone feels that way.

I have a 5s. What I would like is
  1. A slightly larger screen (6s, not 6s plus)
  2. Better battery life, which Apple says I don't need
I don't need 3D touch, but I acknowledge that I might use it if I had it. Same with Apple Pay.

I do need a headphone jack, because I don't want to drop another $100-200 for lightning or bluetooth headphones. I don't want to depend solely on wireless headphones because then there are battery life issues. And I don't want to monopolize my charging port with headphones when I'm on a transpacific flight (particularly when battery life shows no improvement).

I just don't get why Apple continues to be obsessed with thinness at the expense of usability.

As long as they don't piss you off enough to go to Android it doesn't matter. For all the bellyaching about lack of broadband service competition in the market and "predatory monopoly practices", I note that people have more choices in Internet provider than that do in iOS provider.

Thats a misleading comparison. If you look at what an iPhone does, i.e. apps, mail, web browsing, texting and the very rare phone call, there are more choices out there than there are broadband providers.

Personally, I'm glad Apple controls the OS so to avoid the fragmentation exhibited in the Android market. There are various approaches to market an OS, and each has pluses and minuses; and everyone need stop chose one base don their needs.

Wasn't totally apparent in your post...and judging by all of the thumbs up I don't think many others got it either

??????? you make no sense...... the people who liked it actually got the joke.....and it has some of the most likes for this article

um, stereo sound has been around forever and that's the joke.......let us know if you need more explanation

Hmm...I normally upgrade my iPhone every two years. I have a 6 Plus but this time I may pass on upgrading.

I don't care about a better camera, flush and/or dual lens or not, stereo speakers are a bit pointless on something so small, and a thinner Lightning Port <shrug>

I don't need a thinner phone or higher resolution. Perhaps reducing the bezel size would be welcome.

I read an article recently saying that smartphones are close to a point where there's little that's major that can be improved any more. I wonder if Apple are reaching that point?

WHY is it that stereo speakers are such a big thing ON A PHONE? I can understand when working on an iPad, particularly a Pro, that to have a decent speaker system running in the background whilst doing other things can be a great thing to have. You're looking at the screen and experiencing stereo sound, pushed out over a wide area. Unless the iPhone's speakers can throw out discernable stereo sound in an area wide enough to be able to appreciate it, why does it need them? And do people really listen to an un-amplified iPhone to any great extent? If I listen to mine, I'm either using the earbuds or have it connected to a dock or speaker. More battery would be far more beneficial to me. Just sayin'...

It's a slippery slope. iPhone 8 will have a subwoofer.

This is disappointing to read.

I would have hoped the 7 would have, as others have said, reduced bezels on at least the sides but hopefully also the top. I also think the current design is not necessarily better than previous. For example, I think the iPhone 5/s design is the pinnacle of iPhone design in terms of those beautiful chamfered edges.

My ideal wishes for this year would have been:

- iPhone 5 style flat front with chamfered edges where the glass meets the metal

- Reduced side and top bezels, making phone smaller while keeping screen size the same

- Curved back ala iPhone 6, with antenna bands coloured to match the metal colour

- Space Gray becoming more like Space Black (it's too light atm)

- Headphone jack gone (I accept this if the battery is larger) and slightly thinner, sure

- Flush camera with casing

I hold out hope this is misinformation and we are getting something more. Apple should consider bringing the best of the previous designs into one, and that involves remembering how beautiful the iPhone 4s and especially 5s were!!!!

I would love if they also ditched the vibration button and create a toggle for CC. As I've stated before, that's one less hardware thing that could eventually break.
