I would be surprised and very happy if the iPhone 7 were just a touch larger. A 5.1 to 5.3 inch screen on the smaller phone and then a larger plus version.

Apple used to surprise us. We used to be wowed every few years in an amazing way. Tweaking the specs for camera, resolution, screen size, ect. is not surprising. What would Apple add to iPhone 7 that actually makes us say WOW!

My ideas are:
  1. eInk display on the back of the phone.
  2. No headphone port and free Bluetooth headphones.
  3. Waterproof
  4. Shock resistant
  5. Projector
  6. Affordable smart house devices to pair with phone.
  7. Wireless charging
  8. Touch screen responds to hovering over
Let me know your ideas of REAL surprises.
Omg it would've been so great if Apple came out with a PUMKIN spice color iPhone!!!

They have invested too much into touch ID to get rid of it. The metallic trim is what makes it function. Without it, security is seriously lacking and there is nothing to prevent someone from making a fake print. Unless it has heartbeat detection.

I don't think it's worth the trade-offs. Besides, all wireless charging solutions available today require wires.
I saw that new Samsung commercial. It doesn't look safe. Looks like it could easily be knocked off the charger and on to the floor. Plus I like to use my phone as it's tethered via charger. Doesn't look like I could do that with a Samsung "wireless" charging station.

Isn't that how they cheated is when the 5s came out? They didn't have a pulse when using a lifted print.

I'm turning off ALL the new features on this iPhone. Force touch looks annoying, 4K is useless taking up too much space, and that movable photo is just plain dumb.

Well I'll be getting the 7 no matter what, but here are things I'd like to see on the 7

2+ gHZ CPU

3 gigs of RAM

Reduced bezels (this is a big one for me)

OLED DISPLAY!!!!

Bigger battery

Buttonless. They've already laid the foundation for removing the home button: 3D Touch now can handle the multitasking, Siri is activated with your voice, and they've patented several ways to integrate fingerprint recognition into a portion of the display. All they need to do is relocate CC to the NC and do a swipe up to go home and they eliminate the need for a home button.

i love how the blackberry z10 did it. swipe up from bottom screen to go home, but i find it annoyance when playing games because sometimes swiping in the game often triggering the swipe up gesture and game minimized. not good in the middle of clash of clan's war.

It almost feels as if Apple are FORCED into bring a new phone out every year, I understand there is a bucket load of money in it for them but seriously, take a break. If they need time to develop new features, then do it! If it was up to me, I'd go back to the drawing board and take as I needed until I had an iPhone which did have a 4K display, an iPhone which did have wireless charging and was able to make you a cup of coffee every morning! I maybe wrong and people may disagree but just my personal opinion.

Screen res or quality has to be better. Don't care about redesign. iphone 4 was retina. Iphone 5 was 4" 16:9. Iphone 6 was bigger, increased res. iPhone 7 has to continue to improve.

A lot of the features of modern smartphone are reaching a plateau. Things like screen resolution, camera, etc, are pretty much reaching the point of megapixel race, where the numbers are increased for marketing purposes.

Personally, I want to see a push towards improving battery life. Not just improving it to remain constant, but actually making it better. I wish a quote of "all-day battery life" means actual 24-hour, not just a mere 10-hour or so.

Waterproofing would also be great. It is highly annoying to be afraid of using one's phone when rain comes down.

Reducing the bezels would also be cool. Simply check out Sharp's Aquos Crystal 2 or X, they are pretty sleek. And it's not just cosmetic. It allows the same screen size to fit into a more hold-able device.

I suppose this would be more related to iOS 10, but I want the ability to customize the 4 utilities/apps that live at the bottom of the control center. Alarm clock should be in there, not stop watch. I also wish they'd create a more easily accessible "night mode" for when I'm on my phone at night and my girlfriend is trying to sleep. Even putting the brightness at it's lowest, it still gives off a decent amount of light.

4K is overkill on a phone. You're not going to notice the difference. Plus the power required to run that would kill your battery.

Agreed. 326 and 401ppi are already fine. Perhaps it would be cool to get 1080p on both models to keep it simple for development (if that's a real issue) but you really aren't going to see anything. People are buying 50" 1080p TVs and then getting upset about something that fits in their pocket not having 4K.

Wireless charging would be great.

You don't have to use it, but how great would it be to slip your phone into a car dock without having to plug your phone in every time? Or even better just place your phone in your cupholder and it charges. Or when you're at work you just place your phone on your desk and it charges. There are many times where plugging it in is easier, but both have their uses.

What I expect from iPhone 7:
- 32GB base model
- new display resolution > 400 ppi in both models
- thinner form factor
What I'd really like to see (but I'm afraid I'll have to wait):
- touch id integrated into the display and a smaller form factor
- new camera technology thanks to Lynx acquisition to get rid of protruding camera
- waterproof

Microsoft have started to use face detection for unlocking Windows 10 using a special infrared camera. So far, the reviews have been excellent. When Apple claim to invent it next year, it will be magical.

Ok, let's get this out of the way. Yes, I KNOW that the iPhone 7 isn't coming out for another year. This is simply a thread created so that nobody else will need to. Namely a thread where people can discuss what they want or expect out of the upcoming phone until it comes out. Kind of like what they're doing in the Alternatives to iOS devices forum.
So what do I want? My number one request is AMOLED. I'm a huge fan of the displays on the newest, dare I bring them up, Samsung phones. And hate it or not, I think this is what :apple: will do. Vibrant colours, thinner, and less power consuming. I also made a thread a while back about how iOS would be redesigned to complement an AMOLED screen.
Also, as good as the iPhone 6 design is, it's not perfect. I personally would like to see a glass back. Again, this is controversial, but I really think that this is the way to go. Also, instead of making it thinner, I think it would make more sense to decrease the bezel size. It would make the phone lighter and less unwieldy. Of course, they would have to sacrifice the home button and some of the battery, but make up for it with a pressure sensitive capacitive button and Touch ID embedded in the glass, and quick charging (also high on my wish list) and a more power efficient architecture, respectively.
Also other small things that would be good are waterproofing, wireless charging, front firing speakers and a better camera.
Interested to hear what others want to see.
