"Apple has reached an amazing deal with all carriers worldwide. You can now get global cellular access on all carriers when you sign up with one of Apple's cellular subscription plans."
I wouldn't sign up. This will probably be priced like postpaid plans. Prepaid and MVNO plans are generally much better deals, at least for individual lines.

There is no need what-so-ever for a SIM card in phones today. They will go away within the next 2 iPhone iterations.
Hmm... So I've never needed one to avoid having to pay international roaming fees when I travel abroad. I'll have to remind myself of that the next time I leave the country, what carrier do you use that has no roaming fees and let's you call local numbers at a local rate when you are abroad?

I think thinner phone and bezel and MAYBE no physical home button but that's a real stretch I think... Wireless charging, no.

no phone now will surprise us much to be honest. The market has matured and all they (apple , and others) are doing is adding extra bits of hardware to either make things faster or link on to another gadget like the watch, or health apps (which I see as a waste of time because any serious health freak will tell you to use a dedicated running watch!!!)

I think the watch was meant to be the big surprise, but its got a very selective market and isnt selling well at all, which is why Apple arent harping on about sales figures this time.

Why do so many people want a waterproof option? Is it because you need it or just because you're afraid of dropping it in the toilet? If it's the latter, I don't see any reason for Apple to cater to clumsiness. I can't see any reason to "need" waterproofing but maybe I'm not thinking out all the possibilities.

Have you seen the Samsung Galaxy s6 active? It's fully waterproof, dust proof and shock resistant! Oh yeah and it also looks and feels like a cheap piece of crap kids toy, lol.
Have you seen the Apple Watch? It's effectively waterproof enough that people successfully go swimming with it on and incur no damage. It's got no visible bulky gaskets. I am not sure how Apple achieved it on the watch but they did a great job. I believe a similar waterproofing for the iPhone is not out of the question. And the reason I want it is because I already use the iPhone camera out in the rain and snow at my own risk, with some precautions taken. I do actually have a waterproof case arriving today but it's bulky. It's more of a fancy ziplock bag.

They actually didn't do too bad this time around. We had NO idea about Live Photos, whether it actually would have 2GB RAM, faster Touch ID, if the new camera would definetly record 4K, or the majorly increased FaceTime camera. We knew about the big features like 3D Touch but overall I was still surprised!

I disagree. I knew about 4K, and both improved cameras.
So I expected those things to be revealed.

I didnt expect the live photos or improved Touch ID admittedly.

Agreed.......some of us live part of our lives outdoors. We go offroading, hiking, fishing and we have a pool. So having some kind of water proofing would be such a big help. I am pretty careful with my phone and have never dropped it in water. But it sure would be nice knowing that it would withstand and little water and dust. Not water proof but a little resistant would be nice.

I'd be wowed by a simple, easy-to-use music app. Like the one they had on the original iPhone.

Apple Music is such a cluttered mess. I'm considering burning mp3 CDs for the car again.

Nothing can surprise me on a smartphone except for things which are quite a way off technology wise:

  • Battery life increase (=> 1 week of usage on one charge)
  • Transparent devices
  • Bendable devices
We've kind of reached a plateau now in my opinion:
  • 4K Screens; I couldn't care in the slightest about this, phones in general have gotten sharp enough. Despite being a bit obsessed with my visual/audio i'm still waiting to move from 1080p on my 55".. I'm only doing this when LG finally start pumping out their new flat 4K OLED TVs with HDR in the UK. Even then, it's the OLED and HDR that interests me more due to the limited gains with 4K.

  • Smartphones are fast enough... Anyone with an iPhone 6 / Latest Android Smartphone really think we need anymore CPU or GPU power? When i moved from the iPhone 5S to the iPhone 6 i saw no difference in general speed during usage...

The next step is when we can plug into a dock / screen and be powerful enough to replace our desktops and perform at mid level for the latest games.. Long way off..

  • Cameras... Again, limited gains in this department unless there is some leap in mobile camera sensors. I was happy with the 8mp iPhone 6, i'm sure i'll be just as happy with the 12mp.

Can anyone really truly say they've been surprised by a phone since the original iPhone, perhaps also a bit again once impressive 3D games came out on both iOS and Android rather than Snake.

I still upgrade every year though - because i'm a massive gadget nerd.. But like the Personal Computer, smartphones are now a mature product.

Bigger battery, battery is already great on my 6 but more would be better. Better screen in sunlight, again 6 is fine, but could be better. OLED maybe, or as another thread said on here, micro LED? A proper black iphone, maybe a different color combination with the black bezel as well. Maybe start with 64gb, and offer 128gb and 256gb? The biggest thing is the battery, if they can create a much better battery in a thinner form, with some new tech that lasts miles more then the 6S & 6, I think a lot of people would upgrade, then usual.

Interesting, thanks.

I don't have the watch, yet, I'm waiting for the 2nd generation and hoping it becomes a little thinner. I just don't want apple to take away from the iPhones premium design and feel to cater to waterproofing, but if they can achieve it and maintain their high standards I'm all for it. If anyone can do it, it's Apple.

1. 256 gb
2. 2k screen
3. Lower idling ARM CPU to increase battery
4. Either add more areas for Touch ID or add quick gestures on areas on screen with 3d touch to allow certain apps to open.
5. Improved charging rate by 15 to 30%

Increased battery capacity/charging rate would be great. I would also like it to be fairly waterproof (like Apple Watch). I don't necessarily need to submerge the iPhone for periods of time, but it would be nice to not worry about texting/getting directions or anything in the rain, wash smudges off etc.

Interesting read, guys....
http://www.idownloadblog.com/2015/09/14/ssmc-a10-rumor/

"The A10 application processor will be exclusively manufactured by TSMC on its 16-nanometer manufacturing process using InFO (Integrated Fan Out) architecture.

Some of the benefits of the InFO process technology include reduced cost and streamlined manufacturing while potentially allowing Apple to engineer iPhones and iPads using the Apple Watch’s system-in-package (SiP) design.

The SiP design of the Apple Watch’s 28-nanometer ‘S1’ chip basically packs an entire computer architecture onto a single chip by combining the processor, the GPU, RAM, the logic board, the sensors and all of the supporting circuitry—more than 30 different components—into a resin-covered package"

So, it appears that waterproof iPhones that many of our friends here seem to be wanting, could after all become a reality soon

PS: I assume the Q4 referred to here is as per US financial year. Being in the UK, I was initially left wondering why Apple would release iPhone 7 in Jan-Mar'16:eek:

I have been biting my tounge on a lot of these posts, but this is not a thread about what the iPhone 7 will be like. This is strictly about wow elements. Specifically not regarding spec updates like the chips in the phone. Changing the numbers on the spec spreadsheet is not amazing, that's what we expect.

Biting your tongue over what?
Anyone can discuss and state their opinion on this forum. You don't get to dictate what people can and cannot post because its not something you want to hear or because you started the thread.
I posted what my opinion was on realistic expectations on the iphone 7.
Sorry my guess of what will come next doesn't surprise or wow you:rolleyes:

Two things that could surprise me:

I keep hearing about all sorts of new battery technologies that promise huge advances over what we have. So iPhone 7 with a battery that got a week or more on a charge would be incredible.

The only other thing I can think of that really seems possible, and isn't unique specifically to the 7, is Apple creating their own phone carrier. And not an MVNO like Google has created, but their own honest to goodness cell carrier, with highly competitive pricing and data allotments, no activation fees, etc. The whole network would be LTE-A and the iPhone would have added value features if used on Apple's network. Personally I doubt this will happen, but that would definitely be a surprise, and the Apple Upgrade Program does suggest that Apple is trying to pull away to an extent from the existing carriers.

Touch ID into screen (unlikely) and lose home button
Waterproof features
More Fitness Features/Tracking (M10 Chip)
Wireless charging
Better speakers
Better battery life/more efficient
32GB base model
Health Kit Revamp (I want to send my data to my nutritionist automatically)
