I believe the whole "teardrop" design thing was around for quite much closer to the actual announcement of the phone.
The teardrop design was rumored for the 2011 iPhone. There were no physical leaks, unlike for the real iPhones 4, 5 and 6 (all of which leaked several months before release), similarly to this year's iPhone 7.

Those aren't screws, but sensors for true tone display.
Ok, so where are those on the iPad pro 9.7"? No, the sensors are on the front by the camera or the earpiece as usual, they are just updated to read the color of the light as well as intensity ...

The sensors are by the front bezel just above the display both sides, left and right in the 9.7 Pro

You watch a TV show/short movie perhaps on your phone and hold it 2 feet away? Wow!!!!

I have 2 front facing stereo speakers on my phone and it's so amazing to finally have this, I honestly hate the idea of every upgrading (downgrading) to a phone that does not have this.

2 speakers facing the user. It's not rocket science, and should be like this as standard.

Well my user name is Tall Man; I do have long arms. But yes, I miss-typed, maybe you hold the phone a foot away, not two feet. Still I don't see how the sound actually gets to you in stereo in a way that makes a difference. If the video outputs to the right side of the phone instead of the left, can you even notice? This isn't like in your home theater where you hear the shot coming from off screen on your right coming from your right speaker on the right side of the room. That you notice. Or listening to music where the speakers around the room fill the room with sound. That you notice. Nor do I see how the speakers being front facing makes any difference. The sound is basically coming from the same point whether there are holes drilled in side of the phone or in the front of the phone, the speaker is in basically the same location. Maybe it makes the sound just a touch louder. But so does the volume key until you have that maxed out. But I'm not maxing out the iphone volume when the phone is just a "foot" away from me.

Maybe your current phone just has really nice speakers and two of them. That might be a nice thing to have. But I suspect the vast majority of audio on iPhones is heard through headphones anyway.

I suspect they actually will bump the base model to 32GB this time around if only because everything else about this update is so lackluster.

So basically as close to a month before the iPhone 4S announcement there were rumors that it would actually be iPhone 5 and have a "teardrop" type of design and a different home button--so basically completely off on the design (which hasn't been real for any iPhone so far at all), or what the phone would even be called that year: https://www.macrumors.com/2011/08/10/this-could-be-what-apples-iphone-5-looks-like/

If they did that then their profits would fall even more next quarter. the 16GB is here to stay for another 5 years.

An iPhone model will never EVER EVER EVER be called "iPhone Pro" - don't be ludicrous. What is "Pro" about a consumer smartphone? Being BIGGER != "Pro" - and no one envisages an iPhone being any bigger than it is now. An iPad Pro, yes - it's a very powerful creative tool with extended capabilities - THINK ABOUT CONTEXT and intended use before making these bizarre, illogical connections between one product line and another, together with their intended users & customers. There is NOTHING that would separate one iPhone from the rest to warrant the suffix "Pro" - what does it do, transport you to the subway and book your conference calls for you whilst polishing your shoes and pressing your trousers? LOL - just "iPhone" my friends, that does just nicely.

It's a comfort that most likely the people on these forums don't work with Apple in branding product.

What about a laptop, like a MacBook?

What about a laptop, like a MacBook?

They're work tools where you get MUCH more productive with more power and higher screen res/screen real estate. Would you want to edit and export a feature film in 4K on a wafer thin MacBook with a teeny 12" panel?

Well for starters, the camera alone could be considered "Pro". They could also include the same display hardware, and ability to use the Pencil with the 5.5 iPhone, something within the realm of possibility for that size phone, but not for anything smaller. It could also have the Lightning 2 port for offloading media in the feild, and it could also come with 256GB storage.

What else does the iPad Pro have that would further qualify it for that moniker over these features on the 5.5" iPhone?

Using pencil on the iPhone is a daydream, that's just ridiculous. Do you sketch a piece of art for a commission with a pencil on a jotter pad? Artists want LARGE canvases, not tiny ones. Given the choice, would you draw a beautiful picture ON A PHONE with a stylus? Nope. People seem to miss the point that Apple know where to draw the line in regards to product crossover. Drawing on a phone in a "professional" context would be akin to drawing on a large canvas with one eye closed, peeking through a keyhole :D

So in the same year that they have their first ever iPhone decline, they come out with a very similar-looking and lackluster device? I just can't see that. I hope there's features that have some how (not) slipped through the cracks yet.
There will definitely be features that your current phone doesn't have. It will also be faster and have a better camera, just like all the other iPhones before it, who cares what it looks like, it's going to be the most feature rich iPhone ever made and Apple will profit on it like all the others before it as well. I have no doubts!

Well I respectfully disagree with you. There are many situations where a professional would want that ability on their mobile device where their full sized equipment was not available. Choice is not always an option in the professional world when unexpected deadlines hit.

It's okay to disagree, and I can't ever see a "Pro" iPhone happening. It's ludicrous.

Hahaha! You are totally right. Theres NO WAY anybody gets "stereo separation" on a phone PERIOD. It's a gimmick. Now, if the speakers were both on the physical SIDE of the device facing OUTWARD then maybe -- a big maybe it might be better.

For ME the next two things I want in my IPHONE -- a CAMERA that can ZOOM and that can take LANDSCAPE pictures and video while holding it in portrait mode and -- NO HOME BUTTON. I now do not like a home button at all.

I will say that the home button disappearing really feels like a EVOLUTIONARY thing that is necessary for technology to let the consumer "get there".

All of us have seen plenty of "innovative" devices FAIL because they were too advanced for their own good or usefulness. Apple has nearly a BILLION customers that are clearly -- by vast numbers -- average thinkers with average abilities with average needs in a device. People that frequent these passion driven forums are usually NOT these people hence the continual disappointment.

I have TONS of friends that recently upgraded to the iPhone 6s/+. Nobody I know has complained about the "lack" of anything on these iPhones. They love the brand and absolutely love their phones.

Many of the biggest screamers here and on wall street just don't want to believe that the entire "upgrade" cycle has been thrown into a upheaval since ALL of the US carriers abandoned their own upgrade programs.

Do some of you "really" think that Apple, instituting their own "lease" program was just some sort of "whim" decision and not at all part of an overall thinking that the upgrade cycle even before the S was released would be slow?

C'mon people. Some of you act like this company with 500 million users just acts on whims?

Seriously folks.

I legitimately hope someone at Apple is reading these comments.
Unless there's something amazing these schematics aren't telling us, this phone is going to be a major disappointment. If Apple waits until next year to give us something amazing, this might actually be the year we'll look back on as the beginning of the end.

A dual camera would warrant the suffix "Pro" on the 5.5 model along with maybe a couple software enhancements, face it they can't keep going with numbered iterations, it has to stop sometime at some point. These blueprints are usually accurate when it comes to the names of a device. What warrants the iPad Pro being pro over the mini? Do you really think the 5.5 iPhone couldn't have just as many "extended capabilities" that the iPad Pro has over the iPad mini?

Get real! The next iPhone WILL be BETTER than the one you have now no matter how it looks and will bring Apple big time profits as usual. I have the 6s plus and the way I see it, whether it looks the same or not, if it out performs my 6s Plus (which it will), and has a couple more features mine doesn't have (which it will) then it's not going to be a disappointment. Mark my words the next iPhone no matter how it looks is going to sell tens of millions and be a top performer in 2016 with plenty of useful tech that's well thought out.

Put your glasses on and look at the schematic, it's happening , ya know the one with the dual cameras, the 5.5 inch model. It's going to be a "pro" shooter. Come on this was easy to see coming.

If the 6s is selling so badly why would you stick with it for another year? A few cosmetic changes and new features isn't going to stem the downward spiral in sales. They need an all new design this year.

Why does everyone think iPhone 7 will be the worst upgrade? Let's look at the features shall we?

1.) Waterproof
2.) True tone display/variable refresh rate
3.) Anti reflective display
4.) Smart connector (docks, battery cases)
5.) Much better camera (zoom on the +)
6.) Better battery life (like the SE)
7.) Faster chip/LTE
8.) Possible Apple pencil support
9.) 32/128/256 gb capacities
10.) Lightning headphones (not a +)

Honestly, that looks pretty solid to me. Why is everyone losing it? Just because the design isn't changing dramatically! If I get more than half of that list I made up there (which is very likely at this point) I'm upgrading as usual.

I love these types of rumors... brings all the whiners out of the woodwork and makes their tears flow like the Mississippi! I don't care if they have the same design several years in a row.... don't mind the bump, don't mind the antenna lines, don't mind the home button..... I buy a phone to use not to stare at. I would like them to stop making it thinner though.... bigger battery would suit me better.

Oh and if the iPhone 7 doesn't please you, no-one is forcing you to buy it, right?
Exactly!
