Most people are not spec obsessed. These forums make it seem like that. There are other reasons than ram that people upgrade.
Of course but when you see other phones adding features that people would like is frustrating when you are paying £700-£800 for a phone.

I like my iPhone and what it does but it can be so much better. We shouldn't have to wait two more years for features that have been on android for years.

I can already hear Phil Schiller at the keynote:

"The most advanced phone ever. 5,5", 16GB and no headphone jack while maintaining the exact same dimensions of the phone. That's something only Apple can do"
I agree. But if they will sell 0 devices because of this, maybe, will be the time that common sense will prevail over unuseful costumers' worshipping.
I regret to say this because I'm a long time apple fan.

By the sounds of all these rumours it looks like I would want to skip this generation and wait for the big redesign, however my poor iPhone 6 is not in good shape and I don't know if it will last another year.

Its suffered the dreaded bendgate issue even though always been in a case, the headphone port is knackered and if I'm moving about with headphones connected in my pocket it shorts out and plays up, and then theres the battery which can be on 40% one minute then suddenly drop to 1% only to shoot back up to 40% the minute I plug it in.

I have the same problem with my iPhone 6 battery. Ugh.

This phone is looking very underwhelming. I was hoping for some radical changes with the 7 but it looks like we will have to wait until 2017 for that.

The 6S Plus is still a well rounded device in 2016 so I'll be holding on to mine it seems.

Adding what features? Apple is the last to add a feature but they add it in a way that has other manufacturers back-peddling. The 6s can hold its own and then some against every other phone out there today. And that is partly reflected in the $40b last quarter.

I guess I am at a loss for why everyone needs a new design. Does the phone do what you want it to? If not, buy something else. The design of it sure isn't causing me any issues.

I dont think this is a realistic view. They will do just fine with sales and revenues.

Better display
Thinner and lighter phone
Wireless charging
Waterproof
32GB standard model
Allow people to have their home screen how they like it

Are all things that they could of added. There really is no excuse why the design is going to stay the same until 2017.

I realise waterproof and wireless charging may come this year but will see with that.

iPhone will be my daily driver for a while due to iMessage, the OS, syncing with my other apple products and podcasts which I use daily and couldn't cope without them now but I use want improvements each year.

Will be getting the S7 edge as a 2nd phone to give me the things apple aren't but chances are I will skip the 7.

Because the general masses here would much rather belly ache and complain about Apple needing to step up their game, etc..etc...etc.

Because Apple apologists are so much better? Buy whatever the company puts out regardless and they'll learn more and more that they don't even have to try, something that seems to be becoming a reality of late.

Do you notice that because of the apparent complacency there are a lot more people on these boards becoming disillusioned and disappointed with Apple, the competition caught up a while ago and looks ever more tempting...

Perfect timing for Apple to release a very similar-looking phone to the 6s Plus, right? They only lost $40 billion in market cap today ;)

Their whole business model now looks like it is breaking.

They were at the top of their game and got lazy. Being top meant their standards, design etc... influenced the competition and they all raised their games.

Now the choice is not as simple. Apple offers the same quality, for a higher price and usually with handicapped product specs.

They haven't updated the Mac Pro in 2 years for instance. At the time it was an over priced, by nicely designed bit of kit. Now its a very out of date ( especially the graphics cards ) bit of kit with not much going for it.

None of those items I care about. And after playing around with a n s7 I actually prefer the screen of an iPhone.

The stuff that matters to me, which in essence I use for business works well and works reliably, time after time after time.

oh nos ma phone looks da same!

strange, didn't hear all this whining about MacBook case design being the same each year. or home audio receivers, etc...
Amen.

What insane ideals. Apple is a failure if impossible growth doesn't continue and if they don't redesign the entire phone just for the sake of redesigning.

No one cares about any of that. Seriously.

iPhone 7 better have some insane internals (A10 must be a much bigger upgrade than the A8 was compared to A7. 3 or 4 GB of RAM as well) and the greatest camera upgrade in an iPhone ever, if the outside will remain basically the same.

If A10 turns out to be only 25% or so faster, with the same 2gb of RAM it would truly be a pathetic update.

I'm not sure why I decided to actually read some of the comments. I knew it was going to be a bunch of whining about the design not changing enough. Why must there always be a drastic change? I drive a 2014 Jeep Wrangler and that has kept the same basic design for 75 years. I love my Jeep and will be buying a new one in 2017. I will also be buying the iphone 7. I don't need them to make stupid design changes just for the sake of making changes. Keep building a quality phone and I will continue to purchase them.

Another identical ? Somehow all these phones commig out from Apple are not really that big but they are all share similar things..

SE shared some parts of 5s, and now the same with 7

oh well... Apple may be winding down .... It's lost it's mojo with what more can be do to a phone....

at least one good thing of all this.... being 'identical' means u can at least still fit the same cases.

Very true. It's such a shame that they didn't anticipate this scenario, or perhaps they got too overconfident with the iPhone 6.

Had they had a backup plan, they could have released the rumored 2017 iPhone this year.

I'm willing to accept an almost identical design IF internal updates, such as SoC (including RAM of course), camera etc. and other features are amazing. iPhone 6 was a "meh" update in terms of performance but it had a bigger screen and a redesign of course. 6s was identical but, at least A9 was significantly faster than A8, with 2gb of RAM (Camera upgrade was a fail though. Barely better in daylight and slightly worse in lowlight).

Long story short, A10 needs to be another big update and camera needs an astronomical jump, considering it remained basically the same since the iPhone 5s. A couple of other big-ish features like waterproofing it or something else is needed as well. And no, removing the 3.5 mm port is not a feature.

Have fun with the competition. I am not an Apple apologist, I enjoy technology in general and use what I find to be the best. If Android suits you best, go there. I've been back and forth so many times over the years, recently trying the 5X (great device, still not a fan of Android though) and here I sit happy as a clam with my 6S.

The problem with "people" is that they demand new and exciting for everything. That demand is not sustainable, it never has been and it never will be. The iPhone does exactly what I want it to without the annoyances I find on Android getting in the way. It does not need to make my breakfast or any of the other nonsense I am sure people can dream up. It is simply the illusion that all these companies have sold people on that they MUST have the latest and greatest every single time something is released and that the newest thing must do something so mind blowing you forget everything else before it. RARELY does such a leap happen, RARELY. Expecting that to happen each release is just a fools game. There is not a single thing the competition offers that is drastically different from the Apple offering, besides a curved screen which people somehow seem to "need" that in reality doesn't actually offer much usability beyond "Hey look stuff is over HERE now".

Well
By doing what?
Apple is doing fine.

Maybe one of those sturdy phone for kids or elder people will suit you better. My 6 plus from day one is still in mint condition because I take care of my stuff.

Well good for you you condecending prick but I work a physical outdoor job and my iPhone is always with me, it's always been in a case and it's still gotten damaged, but maybe I'm not allowed an iPhone unless I work in an office.

I was pointing out that the iPhone 6 was a weak phone compared to the older designs, hell my first generation iPhone still works perfect and was in use until recently by my father in law, my 4S was sold after 2.5 years of use for over £100 because that was in good condition.

But if your iPhone 6 is still good then I'm happy for you, but no need to be high and mighty above the rest of us.

Compensate with a balls to the walls iOS upgrade. So much potential just wasted!

Yeah they do Hense the S7/edge being successful

It's features that some fan boys ignore but as soon as Apple get those features it's the best thing ever!
