Why is a new design required every two years for it to be worth purchasing? They don't do that for any of their other products. Just because it looks the same doesn't mean it is the same.
Good points. When he passed (2011), the oft-quoted number of years already planned out was 3 (three). Then, as we approached 2015, the 3 had evolved into 4. So whether you believe 3 or 4 years of plans were already mapped out, it will soon be a full 5 years since he passed. I'm guessing even 3 was puff so I have nill confidence 5+ years of plans were already mapped out and approved by him. IMO, Apple was already off plan- if there was a plan- with the launch of the watch. I doubt that would have made it out of the door "as is" had Jobs not passed.
It's probably more along the lines that Apple has a more or less established way of how they have been doing these things for basically a decade now, and this would be a departure from it. That's not to say it means something in particular, or that Apple somehow can't (or perhaps even shouldn't) do it, but that it would be something different from what has been a fairly established pattern. That said, agin, this seem like random guessing based upon some other random guessing or rumors, so basically really nothing much one way or another anyway.Wow..tough crowd. Phones just don't need to be upgraded constantly like they used to. Upgrades at this point are incremental and that's the nature of any product once it's matured. Buy what you need and use it until something else interests you. It's almost impossible to be that different in the cell phone industry, if you pick up almost any phone, they are all similar and work basically the same. The platforms have moved closer to each other and its making for what people think are boring releases. Maybe the next iteration will make you coffee and shave you in the morning.
Apple better prepare another stock buyback, because this won't help improve iPhone sales.
He's kicking back now having had a very busy time, pulling out all the stops with his team to produce this.Jony Ive decided to take a year off.
Perfect timing for Apple to release a very similar-looking phone to the 6s Plus, right? They only lost $40 billion in market cap today![]()
And they will sell 50 to 100 million.

Most consumers upgrade after 2 years. People looking to upgrade their iPhone 6/6 Plus won't be tempted by something that looks identical to what they currently have. Why is a new design required every two years for it to be worth purchasing? That is not true. Look at the S7 Edge. Look how compact Samsung has been able to make a 5.5" smartphone.Wow..tough crowd. Phones just don't need to be upgraded constantly like they used to. "THE LIKES WE HAVE NEVER SEEN", that's some wishful thinking...I'm sure everything Apple is bringing in 2017 will have been seen especially since they are just gaining an amoled QuadHD screen.....and a buttonless home button......
I am pretty spoiled. I love my 6s plus after trying to jump ship to Samsung for a while and came running back. Why? Because of iOS. Android is a hot hot mess. So, a completely new design and kick a** specs are nice, but these iPhones "just work" and work well. However, not having AMOLED screens and making the 6s with only 760p display is a crime.Wow..tough crowd. Phones just don't need to be upgraded constantly like they used to. If losing the headphone jack is a trade-off for better durability in liquid & dust, I say - good riddance, headphone jack!
When you say what "people" will do, are you telling us how you think, or how you think others think? Most consumers upgrade after 2 years. People looking to upgrade their iPhone 6/6 Plus won't be tempted by something that looks identical to what they currently have.
Apple hasn't announced a name yet. I expect people are calling it the iPhone 7 because three times in the past Apple has followed a pattern in naming the iPhone models. They might as well just skip calling it the iPhone 7 and call it the iPhone 6SE/6SE plus if that's what it'll look like. Then next year for the 10th anniversary drop the numbering altogether for iPhone mini, iPhone, iPhone Pro.
