Why is a new design required every two years for it to be worth purchasing? They don't do that for any of their other products. Just because it looks the same doesn't mean it is the same.

When he passed (2011), the oft-quoted number of years already planned out was 3 (three). Then, as we approached 2015, the 3 had evolved into 4. So whether you believe 3 or 4 years of plans were already mapped out, it will soon be a full 5 years since he passed. I'm guessing even 3 was puff so I have nill confidence 5+ years of plans were already mapped out and approved by him. IMO, Apple was already off plan- if there was a plan- with the launch of the watch. I doubt that would have made it out of the door "as is" had Jobs not passed.
Good points.

Wow..tough crowd. Phones just don't need to be upgraded constantly like they used to. Upgrades at this point are incremental and that's the nature of any product once it's matured. Buy what you need and use it until something else interests you. It's almost impossible to be that different in the cell phone industry, if you pick up almost any phone, they are all similar and work basically the same. The platforms have moved closer to each other and its making for what people think are boring releases. Maybe the next iteration will make you coffee and shave you in the morning.

Wow they are keeping the huge comical bezels? I'd think shrinking the phone down, yet keeping the same screen size would be a priority for them. Putting the 6s+ next to a Samsung or really almost any other similar sized screen makes you realize just how far other companies have come.

Lucky for Apple their stock isn't tanking due to lack of ingenuity or anything.

No Headphone Jack I'll move to the S7 when I get an upgrade it is a pretty simple and logical move for me. Don't know why the inventor of the iPod would get rid of it while still selling none wireless Beats

It's probably more along the lines that Apple has a more or less established way of how they have been doing these things for basically a decade now, and this would be a departure from it. That's not to say it means something in particular, or that Apple somehow can't (or perhaps even shouldn't) do it, but that it would be something different from what has been a fairly established pattern. That said, agin, this seem like random guessing based upon some other random guessing or rumors, so basically really nothing much one way or another anyway.

Because people are stupid.
You are correct looking the same does not mean same internals or anything else.
If they change too dramatically, people would piss and moan.
It's a no win. Also, we've reached a point in smartphone evolution where you aren't going to get dramatic increases in any one specification. We have also reached the point of market saturation for high end phones.
Add the fact that carriers no longer give you $500 every year to buy a phone and you get a flattening of the market.

You could see it coming when they dropped annual upgrades.
Then again when they went to two year subsidies.
Now full price on a payment or lease plan.
The phones have gotten more expensive as they strive to get more crap in the same 10 pound sack.
That means things get smaller, more compact and more expensive.

Yeah and iPhone with 128GB is expensive, but a Galaxy S7 or Huawei 6P is not cheap either.
Cheaper than an iPhone, but still not cheap.
People are just not throwing $700 phones in the recycle bin.
They also don't want to trade a $700+ phone in and get $150 from whoever.

So here we are with slower growth. IS anyone else NOT surprised?

Most consumers upgrade after 2 years. People looking to upgrade their iPhone 6/6 Plus won't be tempted by something that looks identical to what they currently have.

That is not true. Look at the S7 Edge. Look how compact Samsung has been able to make a 5.5" smartphone.

Apple could do the very same with the iPhone line. And I imagine they will in the next major redesign. Releasing something with identical dimensions will not entice consumers to upgrade. This is bad news for Apple, assuming the rumor is true.

"THE LIKES WE HAVE NEVER SEEN", that's some wishful thinking...I'm sure everything Apple is bringing in 2017 will have been seen especially since they are just gaining an amoled QuadHD screen.....and a buttonless home button......

Well, i imagine Apple isn't gonna release a Ho hum redesign for the 10th anniversary. All the recent patents point to a radical redesign is in the works. So yeah, if the 2016 will look the same as the iPhone 6s...and all the rumors about the 2017 iPhone come true, it'll be a HUGE seller.

I am pretty spoiled. I love my 6s plus after trying to jump ship to Samsung for a while and came running back. Why? Because of iOS. Android is a hot hot mess. So, a completely new design and kick a** specs are nice, but these iPhones "just work" and work well. However, not having AMOLED screens and making the 6s with only 760p display is a crime.

they need to work on dust in upper left hand corner of 6s/6s plus

the double width protruding camera in that (fake?) leak looks horrendous, makes the existing set up look pretty and desirable,

geez

They might as well just skip calling it the iPhone 7 and call it the iPhone 6SE/6SE plus if that's what it'll look like. Then next year for the 10th anniversary drop the numbering altogether for iPhone mini, iPhone, iPhone plus (or Pro, even though it doesn't make sense).

When you say what "people" will do, are you telling us how you think, or how you think others think?

If this is all they have to offer it isn't going to do much to reverse the decreasing trend in iPhone sales. I hope they have something more in store for the fall. We'll see, it seems controlled leaks from Apple the last few years have mostly been about managing expectations.

with its millions of employees including Ive, and no innovation... hmmm well at least the iphone 6 & 6s owners won't feel like they have a dated device... kind of surprising since the iphone was such an innovative device, it appears their desiging has been left to the micro iphone (apple watch).

Apple hasn't announced a name yet. I expect people are calling it the iPhone 7 because three times in the past Apple has followed a pattern in naming the iPhone models.
