I don't care about the adapter. It will have lighting headphones in the box. Also both my 2010 and 2015 cars have both USB audio. The 2015 has bluetooth audio.

I think there's a small portion who need to use legacy headphones or older audio equipment with the iPhone using a 3.5mm cable. And the adapter will do for them.
I think there is a large portion using decent headphones (the one Apple supply have always been crap) that they can use with their phone or computer that use standard 3.5mm jacks. I am not trading my Bose sound-cancelling headphones or various in-ear headphones for the rubbish white plastic Apple-supplied ones.
Looks like I either buy another iPhone 6s to keep me going, or switch to Samsung - even the Samsung Gear 2 looks better than the Apple watch.
Apple seem to have peaked and are not listening to their customers - even in their computer section. No Mac Pro upgrades, software that is being dumbed down, a MacBook that has the worst keyboard I ever tried, although that is probably to make you buy an iPad Pro where the keyboard is actually better than the MacBook.

Yeah I seriously doubt this. I believe Apple will continue the tick tock cycle once the major redesign happens. Going 3 years without changing the design is a lifetime with respect to smartphones. You are underestimating how much consumers react positively to a change in design. Especially with respect to iPhone's.
Forever? I don't see anything else get completely redesigned every two years. People are just going to have to learn to be less superficial about their phones design because it isn't always going to be this exciting. It's not a new product anymore.

Except for this from Intel:

Will they really deliver the same size ... with this ugly large bezel ? I can not believe this !
I thought about going back to iPhone 7 from my samsung s6 edge - lumia 950xl combo. But there is more Software in Android and more display in windows phone

A controlled leak through apple I bet to counter stock price drop today
I doubt it because there's nothing very exciting there (granted, some may be excited, but I don't see anything "must have" for the majority of phone buyers). If anything, this "leak" will harm the share price even further. A lot of people are already going to start thinking about iPhone 8 after reading this.

It's great for long term stock investors. We can build up our AAPL positions over the next six months while the "disappointing" rumors and then sales of the "iPhone 7" weigh the stock down. Also Apple can use the opportunity to buy back more of their shares at a lower price. Then in 18 months when their dramatic redesign makes consumers and investors excited about Apple again, we can sell our long-term holdings at a new high for the stock, and pocket the profits.

WOW WOW WOW ... another dyed-in-the-wool follower, off to the slaughter house.

Apple needs to introduce a new design so that they can bring back the iPhone 6/6S case two years from now (and call it new again).

They will next year. It wasn't in the cards for 2016.

Why wasn't it on the cards for 2016? They knew that their share was declining, they knew their sales wouldn't be as strong. They should have seen this coming and acted accordingly.

Lack of major redesign, as suggested by the drawing, would likely have the opposite effect on Apple stock. I doubt they had anything to do with it.

Wonder how many people will fall for the DSLR quality camera if this is true. Smart person would invest that money in a DSLR and really notice the difference.

Other manufacturers will be offering these cameras and new designs....shock horror, innovation. If this is true, Samsung will be the winner here, with the S7 edge already a great phone. Apple will learn how many die hard fans they have.

I keep wondering if the current exec team have just got plain lazy and are planning thier retirement. They are just riding this out.
Can you put a dslr in your pocket? If it's a big improvement camera wise from the phones now then the dual camera lens system is an upgrade. I think it will be a drastic improvement for once in cell phones. I care about the camera improvements mostly now.

Well given that the iPhone has changed every 2 years since 2008, I have no reason to believe Apple will stop the tick tock formula that has been such an enormous success to date.

No offense but your logic doesn't make sense. People need to learn to be less superficial? It's not a new product? The desktop and laptop have continued to change form factor for years now. We don't say those products have been around for a long time and consumers need to accept minimal physical changes.

The smartphone has a ton of room to continue to evolve. We will look back at current iPhone's in 5-10 years and remark how heavy and large they were.

just waiting for the Note 6 to launch and I'm going to switch back to Android. I personally prefer Android on phones and iOS on tablets.

Refinement isn't the same as a new design, look:

The design changes are more subtle in the more mature product.

One possibility could be they wanted to release a new iPhone with a new design on the tenth anniversary of the first iPhone's introduction which is June 2017. That called for a "transition iPhone" that would hold them over for those nine months (Sept '16 to Jun '17) until the anniversary arrived and mLED production was ready. That's another reason the SE was released to add "support" for a financially difficult year.

Galaxy S7 - full IP68 WITH HEADPHONE JACK.

I just checked out the S7 and frankly it looks like an iPhone (or what one would expect the next iPhone to look like). Anyone denying Samsung copying Apple design should take an honest look. Even their website looks like Apple. It's a great phone, no doubt. I like everything about it except for Android. A few months ago I would have gotten rid of the iPhone 6 (almost did, after getting frustrated with Apple) and bought this... but going through the process of changing platforms would be such a pain. I am just too committed to the Apple ecosystem.

When he passed (2011), the oft-quoted number of years already planned out was 3 (three). Then, as we approached 2015, the 3 had evolved into 4. So whether you believe 3 or 4 years of plans were already mapped out, it will soon be a full 5 years since he passed. I'm guessing even 3 was puff so I have nill confidence 5+ years of plans were already mapped out and approved by him. IMO, Apple was already off plan- if there was a plan- with the launch of the watch. I doubt that would have made it out of the door "as is" had Jobs not passed.

Not sure how that is relevant , as it's a question of Image quality and not size.

It's simple, these small cameras are improving , though so are DSLRs, so the term DSLR quality is just a BS markerting term. That's my point. Phone cameras are very good for something that you have in your pocket. When phone cameras can handle low light conditions, I will be impressed, though physics get in the way of that .....

So according to this rumour they are NOT going to make the iPhone thinner but they ARE going to drop the headphone jack...
And no doubt keep the better camera for the bigger model again, yet they just announced lower iPhone sales by 10 Million!

That's it Apple, keep ruining your device and causing fragmentation with your devices, I'm sure those sales will pick up again, Not!

I don't see them dropping the headphone jack. They didn't drop it on the Macbook which clearly was intended to be as port-less as possible. This isn't going to happen.

Both those comparisons show you how different the devices are after a 10 year period. You are just proving my point here.

Actually, this is the best argument I've heard. I could see MAYBE dropping 3.5 if they switched to usbc for the phone. Then at least the same headphones would work on your iphone and your macbook.

But if they say they're doing lightning audio only for iphone, while putting only 3.5 and usbc on a macbook, that just seems like a mess.

Performance should probably come above sentiment. I don't think this is true at all.
