They won't include the adapter. They'll be happy to sell it to you for $19+tax.

Did we forget the Lightning to 30-pin adapter and how they must include it or no one will buy the iPhone 5?

4S.
billions of 3.5mm in existance, worldwide industry standard.

This adapter is only going to be useful with earphones that have a volume control on the cable.

This elimination of 3.5 inch headphone jack if true is the WORST stupid idea ever.
there is zero benefit,or maybe just doing rafical changes no matter what means innovation now?
this and the supid 2 lens camera concept..laughable stupid ideas..
WTF?
hilarious cause i think they're both great ideas indeed!

dual lens is amazing in so many ways, and has so much potential.

i don't care one way or another about the 3.5 mm jack. i've read far more compelling reasons to lose it than keep it.

I am not saying the new mouse is a bad product per se. But the charging process was designed in a very sloppy way. It's not what I'd expect from a premium product, to lay like a poor dead piece on its back. Not being able to use it immediately after it ran out of battery just adds to it feeling unfinished – it would fit a prototype or 10 bucks item from some Chinese rippoff seller. Apple didn't design the new mouse with all important aspects (which charging is for a mouse on battery) in mind – it feels like they realized last minute: "damn we need to find a way to charge this thing actually…"
Actually it's because they didn't want to redesign the mouse.

Why is that? Because Apple uses the different 3.5mm rings? Lightning wires are digital which allow them to detect and be aware of the different pins in lightning, I don't see why they couldn't do the same for the 3.5 mm side?

iPhone 7 plus with a 3.5mm headphone jack and either 64GB or 128GB in space grey (or slate black if they brought it back) would be enough for me to hand over money to Apple on day one and upgrade from my 32 GB space grey 5S

The supplied earPods have a volume control on the cable, so the adapter needs to include a DAC but not a volume control. If you have a cable without a volume, the adapter won't help you. Unless that is, Apple decides to include analog out in the lightning port.

This has to be false.

thats an awful user experience. At least ship with headphones with a lightning adapter.

Given the length of the 3.5mm jack, this will not exactly be a small adapter. Perfect for carrying the phone in ones pocket....better get AppleCare for the broken lightning ports

I don't mean you specifically but your response made me laugh. I remember when rumours started. People were demanding that Apple better give them an adapter or they're done. Now we want a full other set of headphones too. Just made me realise that no matter what they do, they're damned.

Not only is there no value added to this elimination of the headphone jack, but what if I want to watch movies on my phone with earbuds while I charge my phone? Forcing Bluetooth audio in those instances? Ok, Apple. You're officially losing me.

Although I've now reverted to some Bluetooth headphones (my Apple EarPods didn't last six months for some reason) I use the 3.5mm headphone socket in my car.

My Ford has Bluetooth but not the right credentials to stream music. Hope this doesn't mean I'll have to buy an accessory to keep me sane during the commute!

They'd better make Lightning adapters with an extra through port so the phone can also be charged at the same time.
Or better, have a portable wireless charger available.

Otherwise I'll be moving to a different brand.

I would not mind this sort of adapter. I would love a non-bluetooth way to connect my iphone to my car's stereo and to charge it with one cable.

Only who said Charge at the same time? This just plain sucks, there are many other devices that use the headphone jack, card readers, microphones, wind meters, etc.

If Apple does this they can pound sand.

The only way that they are not damned is to just leave the freaking jack alone!

This makes sense. Doing it this way would mean that every iPhone 7 would come with an adapter, so no one could complain that Apple was forcing them to replace their favorite headphones, or to buy more expensive digital headphones in the future, or to buy an overpriced $19 adapter. It's actually a somewhat brilliant tactic.

Name one compelling reason to dump the headphone (also, credit card reader, external mic, other accessories) jack?

Like what, another speaker?

Let me clarify - I am 100% with you that the 3.5mm jack is still very important. It's status is not like the serial port, floppy disk, CD/DVD of the past when Apple got rid of those. If Apple gets rid of it, I will upgrade to an iPhone 6S or SE and keep it for as long as possible to let the market of lightning headphones mature.

At the end of the day though, I like iOS more than I like the 3.5mm jack so when push comes to shove, I will choose an iOS phone without 3.5mm rather than an Android/Windows phone with 3.5mm, if those are my only choices.

That said, at the moment one accessory I wish existed was a lightning to 3.5mm adapter. There were tons for the 30-pin connector as that connector had analog audio pins on it. With lightning, the adapter would have to have a DAC built-in. Nevertheless, having one would be great for in-car audio as Bluetooth sound quality is not that good.

I hope that the iPhone 7/7+ has quick charge to say the least. Tired of 3 hrs to charge a phone.

The last time Mac Otakara had a rumor, it was that Apple would announce new MacBook Pros at WWDC 2016.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice... You don't get fooled again. -George W. Bush

Have to wonder what the percentage of people is, that actually still use headphones. Of the 2 dozen people I know with iPhones there are only 3 of them (self included) who use them.

Looks like the iPhone 6s will be the sweet spot for those wanting to hang on for another year or two. This also explains why I see Beats Solo2 wired selling like crazy at BestBuy for $79 all colors. Trying to off load inventories before new iPhones drop.
