This is going to run against their push to sell people cloud storage. I wonder what they'll do to offset those losses. Also, Apple really needs to go back to the whole "one new iPhone model for all" approach. Sure, they always sold old models, but I feel like they've lost that cohesive vibe. I mean, when Jobs died, you had one iPhone and one iPad released at a time. Now? There's iPad pro, iPad pro large, iPad air, iPhone, iPhone large, iPhone small... there's just too much fat and it's watering down the brand and causing fatigue imo.

Getting rid of the middle capacity size again to get people to buy the pricier model, only Apple pulls this crap.

Here's a wild idea: 32 GB is the new baseline + offer 64, 128 and 256 GB options.
Yeah, that's what we need, more models of iPhones to pick from. Let's have 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, and 512. Here's a wild idea. If Apple isn't giving you EXACTLY what you want, go buy a phone from someone else.

What I suspect and fear is Apple might be going in the opposite direction of customer demand and desire. Instead of making the 32 GB cheaper or any of the models remain at the existing prices, they will raise them instead.

Honestly though, I have no plans or need for a new iPhone.

I understand Apple's thought process on eliminating the 64GB configuration, but I don't like it. Removing the most popular option has a tendency to bite you in the ass.
And if the 128 is the same price as the 64 was? Y'know, what they did when they removed the 32 GB option. How is giving you more storage for the same money a bad idea?

Likely they will be leaving them the same.

Wow, I didn't realize I made it so hard for Apple to give buyers some straight-forward choices.

Barely scratched the surface of my 64 GB 6s. What Apple needs to do is give me some more iCloud storage for free. I only have 2 GBs remaining.

Use Google Drive Photos. Unlimited with photos and 15GB of storage. Works just as seamless as iCloud does on the iPhone. It's what I use.

64 GB is overkill for YOU, not for everyone. I had a 16GB iPod touch 1st gen and that was that was too small, my 32GB 2nd gen wasn't enough either.
I honestly don't need to keep everything synced on my phone. I think that's just a mental defect of hoarding. I can't listen to my entire iTunes playlist on a flight going anywhere around the world. Considering, there are other things to take into account that's killing your time: Tweeting, watching your luggage, TSA, reaching your destination, what you are doing at your destination.

Also, how many photos are you going to take? I think there must be some harmony with what you are doing with the device. Yes, for me 64 GB is overkill, but at the same time too, I think 128 GB and 256 GB is just creating an illusion that you must have that. I honestly don't look at photos from 2007, 2008, 2010 too often that I must have instant access to it on the device.

Are you saying that Apple's product line is causing you to become fatigued?

For those who say Apple won't do it because it will impact their bottom line... If the rumors are true and Apple is going to a 3 year cycle they're going to save a ton of money by not developing a brand "new" phone this year. Offering 32/64/128 could be a fairly inexpensive way to get people to upgrade.

No way there will be a price increase. The flagship phones have all been at similar price points for several years now. Apple is not going to jack their price up $100.

Until they reveal the Pro iPhone for a specified price increase. That's what Apple has been doing recently with their product line is introduce a Pro version for more money just because it has "Pro" in the name. It's the same joke that Microsoft uses on it's customers.

While this is good news, I think Apple missed the boat on this and should have set a new standard. 32GB is acceptable but in this day and age 64GB should be the default low end. 256 GB for the hoarders. 2 models simplified that covers everyone adequately if the price is right.

I agree with gist of your comment but I don't want to have to manage content/data. I just want it all available in case I need something. So I'd love more storage so that I can sync everything and not worry about it. I know this is what the cloud is for, but I've had some bad experiences with cloud services (including iCloud), so I'd rather pay for more local storage and not be reliant upon the cloud.

I have 13,000+ photos in my Photos library. Several thousand more that I haven't yet digitized or moved into Photos. I hate when a subject like the painted church in Praha, Texas comes up and I don't yet have the photos from that place that my father took in 1975 loaded into my library.

Judging by the Apple last quarter results many people heeded your advice.

lol, so they are getting rid of 64gb? Why?!

It's not a deal breaker but 32,64,128 are good storage options, if anything keeping those and dropping the price slightly would win people over.

let's see if there is no massive price hike then there's nothing to really complain about.

let's hope the move from 32gb to 64gb when the times require it are not as painful long.

My point is users need not think about storage. They just use their device and it just works. They don't need to consider if they will use iCloud, or if they do or do not take many photos. Storage is a pointless differentiator these days in my opinion. Build the device with the top storage and focus on other things to improve. No one has a problem, the device just works.
Let's just build top end cars so people don't need to think about it and lets charge everyone 100k for a car. Yeah, I don't agree with your opinion. I believe in developing products that address specific use cases. The days of one-size fits all are long gone, I hope. I invite you to join me in the present where personalized solutions make more sense.

Hanging onto my 6+ until further notice. Got the 128GB due to my iTunes library, but I find myself using spotify most of the time, still 128 is the sweet spot for me.

With that being said, holding off on the upgrade until next year.

if we get 128 gigs for the price of 64 gigs, that's nice, but I'd really rather do it the other way and get the current 64 gigs for $100 cheaper than now.

32 gigs used to be the sweet spot, then they took that away, pushing people to 64 gigs for the 32 gig price. Now 32 gigs is just a tiny bit tight, while 64 gigs is overkill for my uses, so now I'm going to have to go to 128 gigs.

Like I said, nice to get 128 gigs for the 64 gig price, but I'd rather get 64 gigs for $100 cheaper rather than losing that storage option altogether.

Maybe they should give you the phone for free too. And the service.

Need more storage? Buy more storage.

I love how people assume that as their needs go up, this means the free default should be raised, and not that they now qualify as buyer of a more storage.

Just because it's Apple doesn't mean it is the best Applesauce out there. 5GB is just as paltry as the mentioned 16GB iPhone size. The good news is there are options there. .99 cents for 50GB a month is pretty cheap but I will always go the least expensive route and use the other free cloud storage markets available out there.

Obviously, Apple charges the lower amount, not the top amount, unless it wants to fully alienate its customer base. Sure, products that address specific use cases are good. However, storage isn't a use case, storage relates to proper function of the device, storage isn't really a "personalized solution". We disagree. That's fine.
