1. All iPhones looks the same - an iPhone is an iPhone
2. So, keep the one that you have
3. And put the latest iOS on it
Most importantly, spend that money on a experience - buy a new bicycle or holiday - that'll make you A LOT happier than a God damn phone!!!

You know: the smartphone as device and concept has plateaued - it's quite probably that Apple is not very interested in iPhones, iPads and computers. None of these are growing markets, none of these are the future.
Apple would be fools if they were not spending far more time on more futuristic work (e.g. cars, space, health/security, etc).
I expect Apple release devices to keep business ticking over, but it's hardly their main focus anymore. Just my thoughts. Have a nice day.

If they aren't interested in a product that represents 75% of their revenue then that is very concerning.

No it will be the usual Tim Cook thing, make up for the dwindling sales by increasing prices, exactly as they have done with the iPad. I expect this hardly updated at all model will be the entry level model whereas the redesigned models will come at a significant price hike. That is entirely consistent with where the rumors suggest the iPad is going, lower end 9.7 version similar to current models, new redesigned bezel less model at higher prices.

The one positive, if this is actually the strategy moving forward Timmy hasn't got long left. You cannot keep bumping price points in the face of falling sales. At some point people become priced out, are people going to be rushing out to buy an iPhone if they end up in the $1200 - 1500 range?

Short termism at its finest and risking the golden goose in the process.

...and actually this wouldn't necessarily completely debunk the Kuo guessing, as he only said that the body of the two other phones would change from aluminum to ceramic. So a possible 7s would be a further refinement of he awesome iPhone 7 allowing for wireless charging. Which might have been the original case for the 7 but wasn't ready yet in which it didn't a 3.5 jack as wireless charging might have been originally expected as a feature.

The odds of an OLED phone next year are looking less and less likely as supply issues haven't been solved yet. That's why I feel the complete redesign for the 8 won't happen until the following year.
Better to wait until the tech is ready tan rushing something out in a panic over competition.
Again, Samsung taught us this much.

I think this rumor is total BS.

well, if you think on it, it's logical! They release an iphone 8, and iphone 7s at the same time. The iphone 8 becomes the flag model with a huge price hike, and the iphone 7s replace the 7 at the current price point!

Case closed~

TImmy is going to leave on his own volition. The numbers suggest he has done more positive for the consumers and investors than the vocal minority would have you believe.

I wouldn't spend 1500 on an iPhone or 900 on a galaxy s7.

Instead of freaking out, remember that KGI gets his info from the supply chain. There is likely an iPhone 7S ready to roll incase suppliers don't get their act together and figure out how to make enough reliable iPhone 8 units.

This is Tim Cook's Apple, for goodness sake, they're not going to be caught without a phone to release because of a supply problems.

Lmfao is this for real? This is getting to be too much. Apple, please don't even think about releasing a single iPhone (except the SE) that doesn't have higher resolution displays and way less bezel!!!
[doublepost=1481131873][/doublepost]
And people still here believing there is goign to be an iPhone 8 next year??? LOL Another boring years of the same iPhone 6 design with few specs bumps and higher prices base on features that they will only add to the largest one.... Apple is becoming very predictable now... I will pass tho..
If what you are saying is true (I sure hope not!) it is indeed uber lame.

As Predicted. 4.7" 7s LCD A11. 5.5" 7s LCD A11. 5.7" OLED, Wireless Charge, All new Design (Either iPhone Pro, or 10th ann.) BIG $$$
No OLED across the line until 2018.

Tim's departure just can't come soon enough. Pathetic leadership, QC, and just plain greed. :apple:

At the moment. The numbers suggest that at the moment.

No need to bring Samsung phones into either they have no relevance here whatsoever. Just comes across as pointless fanboying.

I think the demand for change is mostly for its own sake, which is ridiculous anyway (not that consumers won't punish Apple if this happens).

Oh cool, an unsubstantiated iPhone rumor. I'm going to believe iPhone 8 is due next year until someone with a better track record proves me otherwise.

Well it's early so you can afford to cherry pick which unsubstantiated rumors to believe since they all fall into that category at this point in time.

Too many Macrumors readers assume they're the vast majority of Apple customers, and this just isn't so. I would expect this rumor holds some water, the average Apple customer cares little about LED vs OLED vs LCD, they don't care about frameless/bezel-less displays until Apple shows them it exists... then sure.

New colors... that basic aspect appeals to them.

I worked in the retail stores for 6 years, everyone on this forum is a minority in their wishes and expectations of Apple.

That has been true until now, but based on what I'm beginning to hear from some who definitely are part of the majority you speak of, they're starting to get the message that Apple is becoming "less cool", "different" and "not special anymore" (emphasis on the last one). I wouldn't be surprised if Apple tries to upsell us if we want a new design next year. Tim: You want something that really tells your friends you really bought something NEW? Go bigger and hand over an extra $200. Come on, wouldn't it be the coolest to have your iPhone charging constantly while you walk around your home or workplace holding it in your hand, courtesy of "Apple True Contactless and Wireless Charging" or to keep it short, "AirPower". Additionally, you get a better camera.

Please tell me they are joking? Please... if there's no major update after THREE years of the same design then I'm pretty sure this company wants to commit suicide.

Wow, Macrumors readers. Most of the comments here - and those that have votes - are an impressive demonstration of how nobody read the flipping article!

FWIW, there has never been any legitimate reason to believe otherwise.

Actually, that's completely false. As Macrumors themselves said in the article that only a few people bothered to fully read:

Multiple rumors suggest Apple plans to release three new iPhone models next year, including updated 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models with traditional LCD displays and a larger premium model with an OLED display and glass casing, but reports have been conflicting about which features will be included on each model.

If this report is accurate, it could signify Apple's plans to release a completely overhauled glass-backed iPhone with a curved, bezel-free OLED display and wireless charging at the high end of its 2017 smartphone lineup, while making only incremental upgrades to its traditional 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhones with LCD displays.
It's kind of embarrassing that people are freaking out when this rumour has little to indicate that it should be trusted more than the multiple ones we've gotten that indicate a redesign is coming.

what?

What do you mean 3 years of the same design? I mean, yea, so? Let me go back a little bit for you, not quite to the beginning but back a ways.

iPhone 4 - squared off edges, glass front/back
iPhone 4s - same as 4, better internals

iPhone 5 - squared off edges like the 4. Minor design change
iPhone 5s - same as 5, better internals

iPhone 6 - rounded edges, all aluminum body
iPhone 6s - same as 6, better internals

iPhone 7 - rounded edges like the 6. Minor design change
.....

Are you seeing the pattern? The iPhone 4, 4s, 5, and 5s were all similar designs. Likewise, one could fully expect the iPhone 6, 6s, 7, and whatever's next to follow suit.

To be distraught about no "major update after THREE years" means you haven't been paying attention.

I see a pattern that suggests you need an eye examination. iPhone 4 and 5 didn't look the same at all. iPhone 6 and 7 do. We all know the S variants share the same design as their predecessor

What happened to simplicity.
3 diffrent models
3 diffrent capacities
6 diffrent colors (7 if we see "Jet" White)
63 diffrent iPhone combos. That is insane.

(I know currently Jet Black color is only for 128gb and up)

At the moment. The numbers suggest that at the moment.

One person's attempting to call out fanboism is another person's making a point.

But we will see. The "cure" according to some might be worse than the "disease".

When you buy a car and this years model is similar to last years model, do you walk out the door? Or do you find out it's a new engine, new brake design etc?

Sounds like another convoluted line of Apple products (looking at you MBPs).

Apple needs to do one of three things: (1) be "courageous" and go all in on a new design, (2) continue the lineup with the current design and only introduce one high end model with the new design to work out the bugs and please the crowd who need the bleeding edge of technology to remain happy, or (3) introduce an entire line with the new design and keep one low end model with the previous design for those who are more reticent and don't like being beta testers. Keeping two lines of product--classic style and new--seems inefficient and indecisive.

... The report claims the smartphones will retain the same aluminum design as the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, with only internal changes, including the addition of a faster A11 chip. ...

Somewhere in Gangnam, Samsung executives are saying:
"Thank the gods! We can lay off our Apple Copying Department, er, 'Design Department' to save money."

No 10th anniversary blow us away design? Wireless charging is cool and I'd love that. Hoping for a bit more than a red colour though!

The two big items for next year are wireless charging (not the faux wireless charging that you see with the "wireless" pads) & enhanced camera allowing for AR functionality.

Can't foresee Apple doing that. Consumers want three screen segments at least: 4", 4.7", 5.5." Why would they want to spend extra $ to get all the features only at the 5.5" area? The 7 vs 7+ involves just a bigger screen (with the higher resolution), dual cameras, and a couple of non-ground breaking features. The experience is more or less the same. Sure, the extra GB of RAM makes a difference, but not to the average consumer because you will not run up your RAM usage and cause the 7+ to stutter. Some people will, but the average person won't.
