Instead of freaking out, remember that KGI gets his info from the supply chain. There is likely an iPhone 7S ready to roll incase suppliers don't get their act together and figure out how to make enough reliable iPhone 8 units.

This is Tim Cook's Apple, for goodness sake, they're not going to be caught without a phone to release because of a supply problems.
This is the most well reasoned response I've seen so far in this thread rather than "OMG, fire Tim Cook, he can't make Apple innovate."

Seriously y'all, look at the competition. Hell, I am USING the competition. It's all great and I'm really happy with my HTC 10 and my S7 Edge for many reasons, but there are flaws and issues on the other side of the walled garden, too. I'm completely happy to admit that in the interest of not steering folks wrong.

Look at the big new exciting Pixel by Google. It does photos and many other things beautifully and many people are thrilled to own it, but it's not an exciting design. No wireless charging. No water resistance. It's kind of an Android IPhone. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

People act like OLED is the end all be all, but I'm using an HTC 10 with an LCD screen that's gorgeous. I've seen crappy tints on the Samsung OLED displays. I get some eye fatigue on my gorgeous Samsung OLED display that I don't experience on my iPad or iPhones or HTC 10. There are pros and cons to all the display tech currently available.

Where IPhones can improve is in how they record audio. Samsung and LG have models that record videos in beautiful stereo sound.

Battery issues need to be taken care of. iOS needs to be cleaned up a bit. There might be a few hardware issues to iron out, and a look at revamping customer service to bring it back to what it was.

But really, look, IPhones don't suck that badly. Yeah there are some exciting looking ones coming out of China with amazing specs and all with exciting price points. But when I took a hard look at them and what customers had to say about using them, it was pretty disappointing, actually. But don't take my word for it guys and gals. It's all out there on the Internet.

Actually, that's completely false.
Actually no, its not.

There is not one shred of credible evidence that Apple has ever intended to:

- Not produce a 7s next year.
- Deviate from their normal cycle
- Make a premium phone.

"We have the strongest pipeline that we've ever had and we're really confident about the things in it, but as usual we're not going to talk about what's in it."

"Our aim was to create an all-enveloping magical experience that celebrates our enormous respect for tradition while recognizing our excitement about the future and things to come."

I hope that you enjoy your new iPhone 6sss — it’s a fantastic phone! :)

They would get my vote for naming it the iPhone 6SSS. :D

Hahahaha another day another iPhone rumour contradicting other ones.. maybe they'll fix the buggy mess of an iPhone with the 7S? I doubt iOS has much chance though...
And considering the way Apple has celebrated other big birthdays of other devices, I doubt it will even acknowledge the iPhones let alone launch some special edition model!
I bet it'll be the 7S with the usual spec bumps, no design change or wireless charging.

Always figured next year's device would be an "S" variant.

The all-glass bezel-less iPhone 8 isn't coming until 2018.

When you buy a car and this years model is similar to last years model, do you walk out the door? Or do you find out it's a new engine, new brake design etc?

Everyone reading that post of mine and quoting it is getting all hung up on the wrong part. Whether the jump between the iPhone 4/4s and 5/5s was a major redesign or just an evolutionary iteration is not the point.

That's not where we are.

We are not between an "S" and a full redesign. We are now between a redesign and an "S" model. Regardless of whether someone has the ability to objectively perceive the similarities between the 4/4s and 5/5s is irrelevant. One can think they had the same design cues and form factor or they can think the 4/4s and 5/5s were drastically different. IT DOESN'T MATTER!! The point is that all of the people expecting some drastically different form factor and design for the next iPhone (S) "just because it's the 10th anniversary" are likely going to be very disappointed based on how Apple has historically done "S" models.

Why?! This is 10th anniversary we're speaking of, I cannot believe this is true...

Other than the horrible 20th Anniversary Mac when has Apple done anything with their products to celebrate any kind of anniversary?

They march to their own tune and in case you haven't noticed, they don't care about the past.

If Apple do not significantly upgrade the iPhone then my 6 Plus will be replaced with a Google Pixel XL. The camera alone utterly dominates anything from Apple.

It comes down to the laws of physics:

iPhone image sensor: 1/3", 1.22 µm pixels (tele 1/3.6")
Google Pixel image sensor: 1/2.3", 1.55 µm pixels.

OIS and a fast image processor cannot make up for such a wide disparity in sensor area.

Part of this is Ive's fault because to use a larger sensor and get the same field of view requires a thicker camera module. But primarily this is about rapacious margins. Period, full stop.

It's so frustrating because Apple could offer an iPhone with a superior camera. They have all the resources needed to design and build such a phone, and they could even offer it as a $100 option. The wider field of view would actually be more desireable since there is also a telephoto lens.

What I'd like to see in the iPhone 8:
Wide angle: 1/2.3" sensor, OIS.
Telephoto: 1/3" sensor, OIS.

The larger sensor pixels will enable Apple to use far less noise reduction. I'd pay an extra $100 for an iPhone with such a camera. If they asked more than I'd just buy a Google Pixel.

I think this rumor is total BS.
This rumor doesn't align with everything else we've been hearing.

I don't think we'd see a 7S, as the 7 is just a 6SS, for the iPhone's 10th anniversary. Then again, Apple has been disappointing lately.
it aligns perfectly. Just leaves out the redesigned phone, that will cost more and be limited in production, which will be offered along side these two models.

Iphone 6S plus.....every rumour your are looking like a long term keeper......

Well reasoned post. Since there is so much hubris, at least on fan sites, we will have to wait and see.

Whether this rumor turns out to be true or not, people really need to stop hyping up next year's iPhone to be the god of iPhones. It doesn't matter if there's 100 rumors saying "glass backed, newly-designed iPhone", it's just way too early to take that as fact.

Keep expectations low so you won't be sorely disappointed if it turns out to be a 7S, yet pleasantly surprised if it really is an amazing new phone.

...or just plug your ears and go "lalala" everytime something that contradicts the GodPhone comes up. Whichever works.

what?

What do you mean 3 years of the same design? I mean, yea, so? Let me go back a little bit for you, not quite to the beginning but back a ways.

iPhone 4 - squared off edges, glass front/back
iPhone 4s - same as 4, better internals

iPhone 5 - squared off edges like the 4. Minor design change
iPhone 5s - same as 5, better internals

iPhone 6 - rounded edges, all aluminum body
iPhone 6s - same as 6, better internals

iPhone 7 - rounded edges like the 6. Minor design change
.....

Are you seeing the pattern? The iPhone 4, 4s, 5, and 5s were all similar designs. Likewise, one could fully expect the iPhone 6, 6s, 7, and whatever's next to follow suit.

To be distraught about no "major update after THREE years" means you haven't been paying attention.

I agree completely. It is amazing how short the memory of the general consumer is. This rumor fits the mold for what apple has been doing since nearly the beginning with the iPhone. The 7S will be similar to the 7 and 6/6S just like the 4/4S and 5/5S are similar. The iPhone 8 will be the next design language change. The only argument against this that makes any sense is that it will be the 10th anniversary phone and they may or may not break the mold for it. But if it wasn't for that I would expect nothing different than what this rumor suggests.

And people still here believing there is goign to be an iPhone 8 next year??? LOL Another boring years of the same iPhone 6 design with few specs bumps and higher prices base on features that they will only add to the largest one.... Apple is becoming very predictable now... I will pass tho..
of course there will be

I think it's quite likely that Apple is planning a more dramatic redesign than indicated here, but an iPhone just like the 7 that adds in a headphone jack would seem like a significant upgrade to me. Just sayin'.

If they put the headphone jack back, I would buy the largest storage tier on day one. As it stands now, I will likely keep my 6S until it falls apart.

According to Jony all the designs are complete redesigns that dont resemble the previous model. Same with 4S, 5S and 6S.

In every one of those videos he basically says they tear everything down and start from scratch. Just somehow they end up with the same outer case. mh

"Lack new design"? I don't think they need a new design. It's sleek and looks good. Work on internals. The only reason there were design changes for the past years is because the phone got significantly thinner with every generation. No need for that anymore. Stop expecting new designs. Put efforts elsewhere
