Can't say that I'm overly surprised. I think the iPhone 7 is a nice phone, but its not that much different the 6s. There's a fairly large disparity on features with Android phones vs. the iPhone

That's why it would be a mistake if Apple forced people who would prefer a smaller iPhone a choice between an essentially three-old design (7s) and a larger redesigned iPhone 8/Pro. I know "Apple's triple play of a 7s, 7s Plus and "iPhone Pro" is just a rumor, but it definitely sounds like an "Apple of today" marketing ploy. I know Tim and Phil have grand visions of the biggest upsell in Apple history at the moment for 2017, but I think that would really rub a lot of their users in the wrong way.

Why don't you wait to see the next desktop lineup before buying something? I mean, by all means look around, but wait.
I am of course. Even if the new desktop(s?) is a let down, my Late 2012 iMac is in great shape.

I am looking around, and my work computer is supposed to get Windows 10 soon, which is great because I have not had a chance to use it yet. I hate Windows 7, so I am hoping Windows 10 is better.

As for sticking with Apple, that is the plan for now. I just want to keep my options open, just incase I decided to switch.

I'll bet your family cannot tell the difference between the 5s, SE, 6 (any version), or 7 (any version) holiday pictures just by looking at them. That is my point, a snapshot today is just a snapshot. Carrying an iPhone 7 camera does not mean anything, unless your just a techie that needs the latest tech for bragging rights.

Try looking at digital photos you took 20 years ago, or even 10 and ask yourself if you would have preferred they were of better quality! I have pictures of my kids from 1994 onwards and although I'm really glad I have those pictures, the quality is terrible compared to what we have today.

Having a company like Apple continually pushing the limits of what we can capture with our pocket cameras is more important than perhaps you realise now.

I have an iPhone 7+, having upgraded from the iPhone 6 and the improvement is considerable and valuable. In another 10-20 years from now that could be the difference between a nice photo and one that's just not quite good enough.

Just curious, have you popped an SSD into your 2012 iMac?

Consumer expectations are out of control, and this headline is total bull. Articles like this completely miss the software side of things, which DOES improve each year, even if the hardware is very similar from generation to generation.

Seriously, what "wow" features are missing from the iPhone? What does an Android alternative have over the iPhone? Please list them.

great question

not siri - siri is garbage. rubbish.

google maps default

chrome default

google mail default

IR blaster ;)

QI charging

glowing apple for notifications.

I can keep going

I think the issue is, the technology is not quite ready and Apple have been doing iterations. Hopefully the next iPhone will be different as everyone is getting bored. I also think one of the biggest issues is IOS not the hardware.

I have the First gen of the 1TB fusion drive. If I would do it over again, I would have gotten a SSD.

The Fusion Drive totally broke 12 days before my Apple Care ran out, since it was replaced, it has been okay. I notice that if I haven't used an app in a while, the loading is horribly slow. But, for the most part the Fusion is okay.

Putting a SSD in my 1,1 MacPro was like buying a new computer. Other than backups and video files, I probably will not use HDD on any of my current or new computers. The fact that Apple still puts HDDs in the iMacs is sad to me.

Wrong thread.
No, correct thread. I'm talking about iphone 7. I'm also giving my experience of Apple TV that happened today. They are the same topic. iPhone iOS, Apple TV TVOS. It's one complete reply and comment. Not up to you to portion out bits you don't want. It's a full discussion.

Two Words..... "Headphone Jack"

It has begun. For years the apologists have been saying "If you don't like what Apple does, go away". Ok, they are. Now what?? People stuck with a company who's phones literally explode into flames, over sainted Apple. Still sure about Cook, Ive and Ferengi??? These people have been doing stupid stuff for YEARS, but 15 year old apologists who never experienced Apple Computers** when "it just works" keep making excuses for them.

Of course, if people stop buying the Phones... Apple can just fall back onto their fabulous computer lineup... oh wait, never mind. This is why the term "one trick pony" is a negative one.

** i am aware they are no longer "Apple Computers".... that name change should have been a warning to all involved. That spaceship campus is going to fetch some high prices when it's converted into Condos.

I'm glad Apple is waiting and taking their time with the redesign. Remember - Apple is never first, but always the best.

People get upset over a headphone jack, but not over an exploding phone. And yet people question the values of Apple and not Samsung.

I would argue the dual camera / telescopic zoom is a major feature as the jump in camera quality between the 6s is quite large.

Explosion was not by design, removal of the headphone jack wasn't an accident.

HDD in macs, Reduced ports on non-touchbar model. All silly.

I seriously doubt Apple would move iDevices to USB-C. The lightning ports generate a lot of money for them (licenses and accessories) where as they would have to pay to license USB-C. MacBooks and iMacs are a different story however.

If it is that important to them, they could simply install a chip inline that carries some sort of MFI cert. Wouldn't be too disimilar to the way HP locked out 3rd party chargers. I would hope that Apple (if they go this route) simply put up a warning screen, and let you continue to use whatever the device is.

Yeah it's a good thing Apple held back so long on that new MBP for a flawless release...oh wait....

At least the new airpods that were delayed so long are perfect...uh....

The batteries don't drain on iPhone 7's, right? And it's not like any iPhone 7's got shipped with activation locks triggered, right?

And no iOS releases bricked devices this year?

Imagine where Apple's quality would be if they actually added a new feature once in a while instead of just removing features.

Contextually. As in a thread regarding the iPhone 7 and the Note's affect on it's sales, any reasonable person would find a multi paragraph anecdotal review of the ATV unrelated and basically thread jacking. Not the same. More simply put, it's a phone discussion.
No intention to hijack the thread. My comments were all encompassing about the iphone 7 experience. I'd be concerned if the discussion veered into world politics, but taking issue with my post is just an attempt to curtail full frank discussion around a family of products that relate to iphone 7. Heck, one can set up Apple TV with their iphone. Just laziness not addressing the issues and instead screaming a hijacker is in the thread.

Hijacking the thread was simply NOT the case here.

Taking their time is an understatement. 3 years with basically the same design? Very little change to iOs? Come on man take off those rose coloured glasses.

They removed the headphone jack to make space in a tiny device - the MacBook Pro is considerabley larger than the iPhone.

Save space???

They put NOTHING else in that space. Oh, except a black piece of plastic they claim helps with airflow and water proofing....

Meanwhile, Samsung Phones have a higher level of water proofing with the headphone jack.... Hmmm.

Though, I'm sure Apple appreciates the futile attempt to defend their "courage"
