The interesting thing about a higher price is it means less people will buy it, so you'll be part of a more exclusive club of owners. So in a strange way just charging more adds value for some people.
Exclusive means a handful of people the world over, somehow I don't think the iPhone 8 no matter what they charge is ever gonna be exclusive.
Your mindset by the way is soooooooo intriguing.. you seem more interested in having what no one else has above all else. But you still.choose the common as muck iPhone that every 2 bit hustler has in his back pocket mistakenly thinking it brings an air of elegance to his sad life..
Then you say you want the best, which the iPhone most certainly isn't. Talk about a state of confusion..
Do you want to talk.about it fella..

I'll just wait until hardware starts leaking in a few months. But an OLED iPhone upwards of $1,000....pass.

Tell me about it

the 5.8-inch model is expected to adopt an OLED display, and for that reason the smartphone is estimated to cost upwards of $1,000.

My HTC Desire had OLED back in 2010 and cost £350, ..OLED does not justify pushing the price that high for the smallest storage size (32gb?), ...perhaps for the 256gb version.

3G -> 3GS -> 4 -> 4S -> 5 -> 5S -> 6 -> 6S -> 7 -> 8???

Come on people, there's no reason to believe Apple will break the cycle. We're getting a 7S this year, and the 8 is coming next year.

They already broke their cycle by repeating their design 3 years in a row. We will get a 7s, but we will also get the 8, X, Special Edition -- or whatever they end up calling it.

Of course Apple can do whatever it wants. And no, my comment isn't coming from a sense of entitlement. I'm merely pointing out a trend. I'm not an Apple basher. I've already stated I love Apple, and have been using their products before it was "cool". Before the iPod or iPhone even existed.

Look. Apple already charges a premium for iPhones, and their margins are HUGE. Although it's just a rumor at this point, I think charging over a grand for a phone crosses the line into the obscene. I think it's the loyal customers prerogative to point out to Apple any issues they have with bugs as well as when they are kinda pushing it with pricing. Like they did when Apple released the last update to the touchbar MacBook Pro. People unanimously complained about the price hike, and whaddya know? Not soon after Apple cut pricing.

Trust me, Apple does what they want, but they do listen to feedback.

Although named iPhone it is not a phone. It is a computer, albeit quite small.
The trend of getting more and more for the same price cannot continue endlessly.
I don't know their margins and frankly I don't care. If they are indeed huge (and who is the judge of what is huge),
good for them.

What I go by is the value a product presents for me. Any product.

The 2016 MBP is not what I would want , so I won't buy one. If they adjust pricing and put 1TB and 32GB in it ,maybe
I'll get one in 2020.

As a long time Apple user you know that the revise many products after about 3 to 5 months. Usually quietly.

Since it's all a rumor and we don't know what is coming I prefer to wait and see.

One thing I don't do is consider any company greedy, just because they make a lot of money.

I wish I had a money machine like they have. Besides running it for for max profit, I would also do a lot of good with it
as in charity, developing nations etc. But then that's me. A corporation owned by share holders can't think like that.

A superior product experience deserves extra. For me the iPhone does give me that.

The few quirks has in a non perfect world I can live with.

Yes. The constantly same price over many years for more tech will finally or possibly increase:)

I don't get it. The PLUS model has been sold for 3 years (6+, 6s+, 7+) as the higher end model and the one to purchase to have all the bells and whistles. Suddenly there is going to be a 3rd model that has all the bells and whistles leaving the PLUS model inferior now? If the the special model is called the iPhone 8, will we get the 8s, 8s+ and iPhone 9 in 2018???
Didn't Steve Jobs try to reign in all these model schemes so as to be less confusing to the customer?

My head hurts now :)

I guess it won' t even be available in 32gb, perhaps starting from 128gb or just as 256gb.

It could be 7sPro, or have an X or other odd name, because it is a tenth anniversary edition.
Next year it will be 8, 8 plus and 8 pro, year after 8s, etc.

More fragmentation and larger phones! No! Why Apple?! Stop!
Why should they stop? You'll still be able to get a smaller phone that you sound like you desire and those that want one (like me) will be able to get the bigger awesome phone..... I'd love a 6" phone if they could do it..... but I'll take 5.8" if that's all I can get.

Why is "fragmentation" the new hot word on this site. Its called giving consumer choices, which as far as I'm concerned, is a good thing.
What? you mean you can actually look at products and pick the one you want no matter how many and how different they may be? Nooooooooooooooo..... Yeah that entire "fragmentation" complaint is pretty laughable.

Or not; maybe if they did what you said sales would have tanked.

Actually based on the last quarter the "total idiot management" team seems to have had a banner quarter.
Apple flatlined and was in recession in 2015/2016, only last quarter, the holiday quarter, did something typical occur. How on earth can sales have tanked if they introduced a phone that people want? As I mentioned there's at least a million of me who would have upgraded three times since the last original 4" but haven't or switched to android due neglected 4" size. Management at Apple is idiotic. They neglected an original segment of the market and correspondingly didn't capture three upgrade cycles.

Your post is complete hyperbole, you cannot back up anything with facts. There is no way for you to know why sales go up or down. This is not flatlining.

You can say all you want about apple management, the facts don't support your "conclusion".

If you can't see the trend was down/flatlining instead of increasingly going up then I can't assist any further. The sales should have continued to increase year on year. There are many android users that can be switched. Many 4" owners waiting for something genuinely advanced. Market saturation claims are a nonsense. Apple is failing its current customers and shareholders.

Just because they did something four times doesn't mean they'll do it forever. They'll break the pattern at some point. Why not this year? It's the tenth anniversary after all and Apple loves milestones.
Why not just call it iPhone 10?

You're not assisting me in any way. I'm stating my point of view. You can't say any which way there are people waiting to be switched in any meaningful way. As I just showed Apple does not seem to "failing" its customer base. Sales up, stock is up.

Apple hasn't started production yet, so all these rumors are just pure dreams. Prototypes probably exist by now but thats not nomething to go by.

100% correct. Production likely will start earlier than expected, if OLED is planned and with the current restraint as is.

But the rumors are actually worthless, until the unsupported supplier leaks surface from Foxconn. Then we should have more insight of what to expect, aside from the same rehashed articles we read frequently.

Indeed prototypes are easily are already in Apple's hands. Should be an interesting year.
