Bingo. Apple marketing at its finest.

Anyone can put lipstick on a pig. So as long as the design, materials, and tech can support any dramatic increase in cost over the "standard" models you are correct.

(And the iPhone is not a pig by any stretch, but you get the point.)

As you state: CONSTANTS ARE CHANGING

If Apple is greedy, they would probably respond: You are a cheapskate and that with no knowledge about their cost of goods, R&D percentages you want all the new and future advances to be included for free.

Until the final model comes out we will not know pricing, and if it's going to be over $ 1,000 and you don't like that it's time for you to no longer support this uncreative, non innovating, money grabbing, non tax paying abomination of a company. There, did I include all the dumb statements people keep making?

The iPhone was a fantastic product when it came along and it is better than it ever was. Designs and available colors and sizes are personal preference and should therefore not be criticized.

Even if Apple gave out free iPhones to the world they would be criticized.

I am far from an Apple evangelist, but :

Objectivity is a central philosophical concept, related to reality and truth, which has been variously defined by sources. Generally, objectivity means the state or quality of being true even outside of a subject's individual biases, interpretations, feelings, and imaginings.
Apple is greedy, we have proof of it. The iPads are frequently on sale, which means the market is dictating their price be lower. But of course they only care about the average price per unit.

I like Apple, I use their products, but there's only so much one can take before feeling ripped-off. 750p in 2017? C'mon!

More important question: will there be an update to the SE? Mine is perfect but as new features are added to the other behemoths, I hope that they will continue to remember those of us who actually think the pinnacle of progress includes a computer phone that fits in our POCKET, not in our messenger bags.

3G -> 3GS -> 4 -> 4S -> 5 -> 5S -> 6 -> 6S -> 7 -> 8???

Come on people, there's no reason to believe Apple will break the cycle. We're getting a 7S this year, and the 8 is coming next year.

I think you are right, but of course I'm hoping for an "8" since the 7 felt more like a 6SS (expect for the plus' camera)

32GB/128GB/256GB

7 discontinued
7s $549/$649/$749
7s+ $649/$749/$849
8/X $849/$949/$1,049

Since the 7s is a three-old-design, I think it would be fair to reduce the price by at least $100.
I won't hold my breath for that to happen, margins can't take that big of a hit Apple stock will literally tank.

I'd rather them drop the whole number thing. Apple should borrow its naming scheme from Watch.

Bring out the high end, newly designed 5.8" iPhone and call it "iPhone Edition."

Merge the low end 4" iPhone SE, and what would be the 4.7" iPhone 7S, and 5.5" iPhone 7S Plus, and simply call them "iPhone" (all would have the same aluminum design).

Two lines (one of which comes in 3 different sizes), with two different design aesthetics. Keeps it simple and easy for consumers.

Sorry, we disagree and you are using an entitlement viewpoint in that Apple owes us new designs and improvements at always the same price, no matter what they do with the next generation of iPhones and what they have done in the past.

We do not know if the OLED displays cost more, we do not know whether there will be new camera component which will cost more. It seems there is another battery strip in it and we do not know if the assembly yields are different and assembly the costs more. There maybe other components which now cost more.

That's only mentioning a few possible price accelerators.

Now, since everybody is crying that the " assembly slaves" should be paid fair wages, Apple may have agreed to that and as we all know things get more expensive over time.

There is way to much info missing to call them greedy or forcing anybody.

Forcing is clearly the wrong word, when there are so many alternatives out there.

People need to start separating emotions and mostly WANT vs. NEED and their lives would be much easier.

As QUEEN used to sing: We want it all, we want it all and we want it now.

They just didn't finish the lyrics saying: For FREE or same low price forever

Of course Apple can do whatever it wants. And no, my comment isn't coming from a sense of entitlement. I'm merely pointing out a trend. I'm not an Apple basher. I've already stated I love Apple, and have been using their products before it was "cool". Before the iPod or iPhone even existed.

Look. Apple already charges a premium for iPhones, and their margins are HUGE. Although it's just a rumor at this point, I think charging over a grand for a phone crosses the line into the obscene. I think it's the loyal customers prerogative to point out to Apple any issues they have with bugs as well as when they are kinda pushing it with pricing. Like they did when Apple released the last update to the touchbar MacBook Pro. People unanimously complained about the price hike, and whaddya know? Not soon after Apple cut pricing.

Trust me, Apple does what they want, but they do listen to feedback.

And when did Apple release the same design of phone 3 times?(6,6s,7) Never. So anything can happen

Wrong. You forgot to factor in the fact that this is the 10th year for iPhones. That is a BIG deal and a great excuse to go "off the track".

TOTAL SH-T! WHEN CAN I GET A BRAND NEW AND BEST DESIGN AT THE ORIGINAL 4" SIZE?????

WTF!

IF APPLE JUST KEPT IT SIMPLE AND RELEASED THE BEST DESIGN ACROSS ALL 3 SIZES, SMALL, MEDIUM, LARGE, IT WOULD HAVE RECEIVED THREE TIMES THE PURCHASES! MULTIPLY THIS BY 1 MILLION OTHER CUSTOMERS.

TOTAL IDIOT MANAGEMENT TEAM.

Why is "fragmentation" the new hot word on this site. Its called giving consumer choices, which as far as I'm concerned, is a good thing.

Most don't even understand how fragmentation even plays a role in a hardware line up. They use the word loosely because they see others doing it inappropriately. It's the band wagon effect.

And you're correct, offering choices gives the consumer the option of having more than one size, color, etc. Apple wants to their customer base to have the choice of what is practical for their lifestyle, but the Plus model is definitely the marketing tool with the 7 Plus and the dual camera.

I think Apple finally realized that no matter how hard they try, they just can't suppress the leaks and rumors, so they're going for the "information dump" method by putting all kinds of signals out so that no one really knows for sure.
If they're smart, the usual technique is to spread rumors inside, but a slightly different one to each group/department, and then see which ones make it outside. Then, once you narrow it down to a group or department, you slip each person in that group a slightly different rumor... rinse/repeat, find the leaks.

These rumors, LOL.

I heard they were going to make it out of copper. The new "rose gold!" Lightweight phones are out. Ridiculously heavy metal, that's whats hip these days... Increase weight, manufacturing difficulty and cost, and consumer sales price! Genius!

I'm not interested in any awards. I just want Apple to keep making great products. As long as they keep building new products that are the best in all the categories in which they compete, I will keep buying Apple stuff regardless of the price tag.
You are too modest my friend, anyone who says they will buy an unannounced item regardless of price deserves special recognition. You are special!!! Very very special!!!

Oh , one last question, you say regardless of price, well that bobbins, if it was 5 grand you wouldn't buy it , so realistically what's the most you would spend on one that is not in the top 3 phones currently on the market?

I definitely prefer Scenario A. Create an amazing new ultra premium iPhone with a stunning new design, incredible new technologies, and just make it as great as you can and charge whatever you need to make it profitable. I'd pay $2,000 for a truly ultra premium iPhone.

You're not even funny anymore. Why not say you'd pay $5000, that might raise a chuckle.

At this point, analysts have basically just thrown darts this year and tried to speculate on what will happen. Every other week there is a contradicting rumor to the one that was just dropped last week. I'm not believing any of this until an actual leak comes out.

Ugh. Now I'm stuck in the grey area where I don't want an Android but couldn't care less about these new iPhones. Guess I'm going to have to break down and try this "being happy with what I have" thing for a while.

Exactly where I am in my thought process. I won't switch to android but unless Apple gives me something I need or makes the new phone completely overhauled I'm keeping the 7 until that happens.

Or not; maybe if they did what you said sales would have tanked.

Actually based on the last quarter the "total idiot management" team seems to have had a banner quarter.

I skipped out on the 7 for what's coming out this year. Sure for me going from my 6+ to a 7 would have been an improvement, more so than a 6S->7, but I couldn't justify upgrading to a device with basically the same form factor with some internal upgrades. My belief is that they will release a 7S version along with an OLED premium version (whatever they decide to call it). And I think it's pretty safe to assume which models will be the first to sell out as well, further fueling the rumors that Apple will be ramping up production earlier than usual in order to meet demand.

In short.......I'm ready........my wallet is ready.

I doubt it. Everyone knows Apple cares about the bottom line more than ever and the 4" screen market probably isn't the most profitable. I think the Special Edition will remain just that, a one off.
