I'm still torn on 8 versus X. I'll probably just get the 8. It's not about the money, it's more about the timeline of things. I'm on a 12 month upgrade cycle with Verizon. Every 12 months, I can return my current iPhone and get a new one.
If I wait until the iPhone X arrives and it is back ordered through January, I now have to wait for January 2019 to get the next iPhone that presumably comes out in September. That sounds terrible.
On top of that, the iPhone X is just an iPhone 8 w/ Dual OIS and a larger OLED screen along with a stainless steel band. What are the actual other benefits? If it was faster, I'd consider it but if demand is low, I can finally get an iPhone on launch day without having to wait in line and get the one I want and then a year later, I'll be ready to jump to whatever the iPhone X is supposed to be w/o as much hype because it "looks like last year's phone"
Is my approach wrong?
As someone who's owned every iPhone. I see the X as a very limited, low-yield mold of where the puck is going and will fully be realized a year later when apps finally get their UI right for the screen design and Apple further perfects FaceID, the gestures we make to interact with it and hey, it'll be faster! The iPhone 6 Design still doesn't feel old to me and I keep my iPhone in a case anyway.
For those on the annual plan, getting the 8 now and X-1 (or whatever it's called) in September 2018 really sounds like the best move.
SAME SAME SAME. I will attempt to purchase iPhone 8 at 2AM central Friday morning from Verizon. If I wake up that is. Then next year make the jump to the next big thing. Having said that, if I hadn't scratched up my 7, I would probably keep it until next year.. a little wary of the all glass design, and I would be surprised if I end up buying wireless charge accessories as lightning works just fine. Look forward to the camera and speed boost though.I'm still torn on 8 versus X. I'll probably just get the 8. It's not about the money, it's more about the timeline of things. On a serious note, does anyone know which modem this phone carries? intel? qualcomm?
Serious question, can Apple recognize revenue from a sale if they don't deliver the actual product (ie - if it's backordered)? I would think there's going to be a ton of orders and only a few phones to go around.Man curious how many sales the X gets! Good luck to you if you have the money, hope you enjoy it!
If you don't care much for the dual OIS cameras and OLED screen, then the standard 8 sounds like the way to go. It should be more readily available. You bring up a great point about Apple and developers hammering out any potential issues with the new features. That might be worth waiting for.
So why all the haters on the iPhone 8? I'm moving from a 6 to an 8. There's no point in just getting a 7 when I can get a better processor and wireless charging.

They will eventually sell out, but I'm sure anyone who really wants one at launch shouldn't have too much of a problem.
Just use the Apple Store app on your current phone right when they go on sale go pre order.
You must have a missing chromosome to order one of these units.
Sure. The first one.Honest question. Has there ever been "A worst selling iPhone ever"?
The 8 will be a great upgrade coming from the 6!
No, I'm out of line, even for iPhone X. I have upgraded every year, iPhone 3G, 4, 4s, 5, 5s, 6, 6s, 7 but not this year. I will be back next year if Apple put the touch ID back on iPhone X1. Wake me up then.
This is the first time I will not by a new iPhone.
Every year I have purchased a new iPhone because of the new features. The 7 was the first time I doubted buying one... but did it anyway.
This time, the 8 is simply too expensive for an upgrade from a 7.
I would like to shoot 4K @ 60fps, but I am not paying almost € 1000 for it.
The X is simply far too expensive. € 1329 for 256 GB... sheesh.
Your wallet thanks you and you know you're with a company that will support a product for a few years. If it were a Motorola phone, I would say screw it and upgrade.
Good point. The 4 was my first iPhone and a beautiful phone it was. From that perspective the glass back will be a nice touch. I hate using cases but I always end up with one since these things are so dang fragile.iPhone 4/4S was my FAVORITE design! I never saw one that didn't have a cracked back glass but I personally never cracked mine and it was gorgeous all around.
They did not do that last year. History.Me thinks Apple won't be releasing pre-order numbers this year
