These prices man. It doesn't even make sense. Like, at all. $1000 for a bloody smartphone, come on.

This is a **laptop** people. Smashed down into a 4.7"-5.5" slab of glass. The only thing saving on price is the production volume. I'm surprised these don't cost *MORE*, come on.

Did the iPhone 4 cost 1000USD because of the breakthrough that supposed the Retina Display? No. It cost the same as the year before.

Did the iPhone 5S cost 1000USD because of the breakthrough that supposed TouchID? No. It cost the same as the year before.

iPhone 8 is 8, not 8 Plus. iPhone 8 base capacity should cost THE SAME as iPhone 7 base capacity, no matter what the base capacity of each of them is.

If an iPhone 8 Plus is released, it should be priced inline with the iPhone 7s Plus price.

What they are releasing as iPhone 8 is what iPhone 7 should have been. For me, releasing a 7s, pricing it like an iPhone 7, with the same processor as the 8 makes no sense. It you didn’t had it ready for last year, ok. Last year you released an iPhone 6ss (7) and this year you release the 8. That’s all. No need for 7s models. Only release the which is like a combination of the base and the Plus. Plus screen size on base model size. And if you want, price it between them. But not $350 more than last years one.

$699 (between $649 of the 7 and $749 of the 7 Plus) should be a fair price, considering it’s a combination of a normal and Plus model, and should replace them in this year releases.

iPhone 8 shouldn’t be considered an iPhone Plus Plus, it should be instead a normal yearly update of the base model, that comes one year later.

This pretty much sums up my thoughts. You also have to include the fact the iPhone 6 didn't cost any more than the 5S even though the screen size increased from 4" to 4.7".

Everyone is falling into Apple's trap by comparing the rumored iPhone 8 to the maxed out 7 Plus. I suspect that is exactly why Apple didn't also release an 8 Plus that is the same size as the Galaxy S8+ with a 6.2" screen.

I will freely admit the AMOLED screen and facial recognition cameras will likely add some to the bill of materials over a comparable iPhone 7, but nowhere near enough to justify a 50% price increase. Think about that, the entire rumored cost increase of the iPhone 8 is for an AMOLED screen (that other manufacturers have had for years) and a new camera.

I'll agree with your suggested $699 price for the 8, and hopefully that is what Apple will price it at next year when supply constraints are no longer affecting availability. The iPhone has always felt like a good value even at its relatively higher price than its competitors. This one feels like Apple is simply trying to see how high they can go before they alienate their most loyal customers.

Steve Jobs may have been a micromanaging control freak, but he truly did want to see his products be the best they could be and be in as many peoples' hands as possible. From Steve Jobs biography, "My passion has been to build an enduring company where people were motivated to make great products," Jobs told Isaacson. "[T]he products, not the profits, were the motivation. Sculley flipped these priorities to where the goal was to make money. It's a subtle difference, but it ends up meaning everything."

Tim Cook is going for the same money grab that John Scully did and I think it will likely play out the same way. Apple is getting to be more about image than functionality and fashion is a fickle mistress. It is a slippery slope on the way down if Apple ever falls out of favor with the trendy and needs to go back to attracting the real dedicated users of their products through traits like quality, functionality, and value.

Why on earth are people moaning?

It's meant to be their special edition iPhone and it's priced around the same as the top end iPhone 7+ ($969 before tax) currently is.

If you don't want to pay premium prices then it's probably not a great idea to go for the special premium model.

Why are people moaning???? Really??? I can hardly express what a load of crap this is. The fact is, its hardly a "premium" device. I would characterize it as a regular upgrade in the Iphone cycle......at best, catching up to competition. Which would make the rest of the phones coming out (Iphone 7s) a low cost version. If Im being honest, what is so premium? What justifies a price point STARTING AT $1000??? New OLED screen? Iphone just playing catch up here. Wireless charging? Also playing catch up. Other phones have had it for years. Apple made it clear that they were not going to "join the crowd" and put wireless charging in their phones until they developed actual wireless charging. And I agreed with them. The options out today and in the new Iphone 8 are NOT wireless charging. If I have to put my device on some stupid pad that needs to be plugged in, I may as well just plug in my phone. Well, turns out, Apple couldnt deliver, couldnt get it to work in time. So now we get the same lame tech everyone else has had for years and its supposed to be "premium". No. I would have been fine waiting. So, what else we got? The new biometric features!!!!! Ohhhh, fancy. Oh wait, this new feature is only there because Apple couldnt get touch i.d. which is superior to face i.d. in every way, to work under their OLED screen. So once again, because the good, premium feature wasnt ready for prime time, they did some weak work-around. So, now we get lame face i.d., again, a feature others have had. I would rather have touch i.d and if you cant get it right, fine. Il wait, but dont act like we are getting a super great premium device. Shall I go on? The specs are NOT lighting the world on fire. Many other models have more storage, more RAM, etc.
So how is this price justified? Had they come out with OLED screen, TRUE wireless charging, so I can walk into my house and my phone starts charging, sitting on kitchen counter, on desk in bedroom, on coffee table. Thats what they originally wanted. Got touch i.d. to work under the screen. Along with a nice upgrade in ios 11. I would be fine. But they have done NOTHING compelling to justify that price. Im actually not that far from what I think is fair. For the OLED screen, faster processor, I suppose to start a 128gb should be $899, 256gb $999 and 512gb $1099.
That seems fair to me.

Not a fan of the possibility of a $1000 phone, but then again, my iPhone is more valuable to me, and used more, than my desktop computer.

No one seems to understand the reasoning behind the iPhone Pro pricing. If this 5.8" iPhone Pro was priced similarly to the iPhone 7S/7S+, it would be a no brainer.

So the real question is, how much more does Apple need to charge so that majority of the people still buy the 7S/7S+?

I believe that even at $999 it's a no brainer. To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if the starting price is $1199. For anyone that blinks before preordering this, it'll quickly be back ordered until January 2018. Highest end iPhone has been close to $1000 for years now, so I don't really see this as sticker shock. Hopefully many of you are discouraged from preordering this perfection of a phone, so my preorder goes through smoothly. :D;)

One appeal of the Iphone was that Drake, Kim Kardashian, Mr. T, Steve Urkel, and Tom Brady might be rich, but shared the same Iphone with little old you.

Now with higher prices.... They could still be back to phone elites.

But not me!!! Even at $999, I will still be as cool as Steve Urkel.

at $999+ I expect no ports, but instead a couple of extra cables, adaptors, charging stations and other devices.

Ok,Samsung had top notch OLED in pretty much all it's phones even budget models yet maintained standard pricing yet it's only Apple that feels price needs a huge hike because of using OLED?

Camera improvement and sensors etc ARE nothing.they are expected improvements and shouldn't really cause so much price hike.

That's not cool at all.
Wrong. They don't have OLED in "pretty much all their phones ".

I think it would be really cool if the iPhone 8 line had no fragmentation. Like, you would have the iPhone 7S and 7S Plus that comes in 3 different storage capacities and 63 different colors. But then you just have the 8. It comes in one color, 256 GB, and costs $999. Get rid of the "Build Your Own iPhone" system, and just have a cookie cutter iPhone. I think that would give it the premium feel Apple is looking for.

I doubt Apple cares if the iPhone 8 doesn't sell well because they know their fans that don't buy the 8 will just buy the cheaper 7S instead. It's a win win for them either way.

In my opinion, Apple will sell the device at the highest price that the market will support (meaning maximally profitable considering demand at a given price). In fact, as a public company, that is their duty to their shareholders. Sure I'd rather pay less but there is a difference between complaining about the price but buying anyway and actually walking away. Whatever Apple prices the phone at you can be sure they've done their homework on price.

No, you will not.

Higher and higher prices for a PHONE! Ridiculous considering the cost to USE the phone.
Does it cook dinner? Does it clean my house? Does it perform my landscaping duties?
Why would you want your phone to cook dinner, clean your house, and perform landscaping duties of all things?

I paid £699.00 for iPhone 6 126GB in Sept 2016

The battery is shot so I'm using a Morphie to see what Jan '18 brings

Would make do with 64GB, not really maxed out my 128GB plus its all cloud nowadays so,

Price, bearing in mind 3 years on, new tech, brexit, solar eclipse, but half the GB would look at price point £649.00 or $836 http://www.xe.com/currencyconverter/convert/?Amount=649&From=GBP&To=USD
Also looking for a 2 year warrantee like Samsung Note.

A 256GB regular iPhone 7 (not the plus) is currently $850. $1100 for the 256GB iPhone 8 doesn't seem all that bad. $250 is $250, but if we're getting what we're supposed to be getting it seems pretty in line. Now if the 7S phone was priced like that then we'd have reason to riot. But really... I kinda expected this...And I think im ok with it. My wallet might not be, but I am. Bring on Sept.
