Never gonna happen. They're not gonna charge 1000 for an iphone. Its gonna be at the same price. if at all, 50 -100 hike. nothing more. Cant believe you guys believe this ****. Just coz they added all these new features, which should have been there a long time ago? Samsung already gives you all these features at the same price on the s8, etc. why would apple charge more?
Because... They are Apple?

Only... there will still be a 7s/ 7s+ based on the exact same chipset, same ram (for the +), possibly even same camera set-up, and for the same price as always. I wouldn't be surprised to see the range simplified back to an 8/8+ next year, taking on the design of the 'edition' for the price of the mainstream phones, either.

Why would they do this when people just got used to 1k iPhone prices? 1k will be the new normal.

Exactly my point. You use your phone way more so it will wear much faster than your expensive Mac. The point is, if your phone is undeniably the most used device you have by far. Why should the iPhone be a cheap device? If people feel they want a cheap phone, then get a cheaper phone. No one is stopping you from getting one, people just need to stop complaining about iPhone prices. If you can’t afford it move along.
dont be a troll. I can afford it and then some, doesn't put a dent in my bottom line.

Question is can Apple afford its shrinking iPhone market share?

So, catching up with the competition means raising the price in apple-land ?
Honestly, I love Apple but if I can get the same type of product for cheaper somewhere else, then I'm going to do just that. I hope it brings something new to the table.

So what? the point is they used OLED in not only flagships but also in budget models.because OLED is nothing "premium" or super expensive as Apple -MiGHT- try to market it accordingly.
Samsung S2,S3,S4,S5,S6,S7,S8
And Note 1,2,3,4,5,7,8 all had OLED since 2010..
Also budget range S3 Mini,S4 Mini,S5 Mini,etc etc
Only a fool will think OLED Screen should hike the price so much.

Well, it's not just oled is it?.

I don't mind the $1000 price tag, but I do mind the f*ing 64GB for that price. Apple are such bitches when it comes to storage. If that's where the base starts, it's another reason for me not to get the iPhone 8. Pretty F*ing sad that I held off on upgrading for Tim Cook and Co to screw up the 10th Anniversary.

I just want Sept 12 (rumored) to come around so we can get the official word from Apple on what's really going on. I'm at the point that rumors are just disappointing me. I'd rather just be disappointed all at once straight from the horses mouth.

I really doubt Apple will charge $999 for the iPhone 8 64 GB "unlocked." My guess of the price of $899 for the 64 GB model still stands, especially when they have to compete against the Samsung Galaxy S8 series and now the Galaxy Note 8.

Apple, the company that charges you maximum premium price for its Mac Pro that hasn't been updated since launch several years ago, in fact they increased its price by £500 in the U.K. blaming brexit, yeah I doubt the Mac Pro costs as much now to make as it did in 2013... that's not how hardware works.

Apple the company that did the same thing with the iMac, and then introduced the new MacBook Pro and not only increased the price worldwide but increased it further in some country's blaming exchange rates, the company that charges £3200 for the maxed out MacBook Pro with only 16GB ram that cannot be upgraded...

Apple the company that sells a watch for £300, then adds some gold in the case, keeps the exact same internal mechanism and battery and screen, then charges £13,000 for the watch...

Yeah you seriously don't think they'll ever charge a grand up for an iPhone? Have you been taking any notice of their pricing over the last few years??

People on here seem to have been totally blind to Apples pricing over the last few years? Their pattern is to ALWAYS charge as much as they think we will pay, not be fair to its customers, it makes money by maximising mark up on its prices.

That's the price in the first few weeks before it drops quickly (look at the S8). iPhone prices stay the same. And 130 GBP is far off.

Yeap.. in the U.K. The iPhone never drops in price... and that £1000 will be for the 64GB model, I think it'll be £1300 or more for the 512GB model.

Meanwhile I can get a buttery smooth stock android, 8 GB RAM + 128 GB OnePlus 5 for half of the iPhone 8 cost, which is probably what I am going to go with if Apple doesn't come to their senses.

You mean they'll keep a (new) model at the 1k price tag? Perhaps they will, with how wall street is now calling the tune, though keeping it ahead of the primary iPhone models without allowing the main line to fall too far behind the competition will be an extreme balancing act. Not honestly sure they'll be able to have a competitive '8' next year, at around the same price as the current 7, and competitive with Samsung et al competitors at around the same price and have a justifiably costlier model in perpetuity.

Will you be ready to pay a 1000$ for it, though? It would be nice if people could just say, “Hey, Apple, this time you are really pushing it!” and vote with their wallets, as they did with the original iPhone, resulting in a significant price drop?
Not paying this much for a phone, ever !

Well, it's not just oled is it?.
No,but the ,emphasis seems to be on OLED..
also the rest of stuff like face scanner, better camera etc are just standard improvements and upgrades naturally expected with a new model and a refresh.
they shouldn't cause a significant price hike.
so what is it next? from now on every year the new model becoming more expensive because it is upgraded tech and has new features?

At what point do phones become too expensive?

Depends on how much you use it.

If you have a phone for three years and you use it extensively every day, I think 5 dollar per day is not unreasonable, which means around $2000.

I still have my 4S and it does EVERYTHING I WANT (photo, message/text, email, surf and music) and has a headphone jack.

Not seeing ANY advantage to all these .... "improvements". I see some disadvantages though.

The tech market is one that requires constant churn in order to support the huge number of people who are employed and always have the cup out. Churn simply for the sake of churn.

I don't see why not?

Apple's shrinking market share will not be because they are selling fewer iPhones, but because the competition is flooding the market with tons of cheaper devices. Even with 14% market share or less, it's still hundreds of millions of iOS devices in circulation. More than enough for Apple to sustain its own ecosystem.

I think you will find that Android's market share means very little in the greater scheme of things.

As much as I hate $1000 price tag, others have done it. Samsung note is what, $949? The screen is bigger, but otherwise may be very little difference between the two.

Not a justification. I’ll have a hard time justifying $1k unless tmobilemdoes another “free” deal, or just require $200 up front or something. $200 I can much more easily stomach.
