I think Apple should offer the highest end option they can realistically produce. As long as they have less expensive options that are still great- which it looks like we are getting as well.
These prices man. It doesn't even make sense. Like, at all. $1000 for a bloody smartphone, come on.
At what point do phones become too expensive?
It is going to do just what your actual phone is doing, make phone calls, emojis and receive emails. That thing better be worth it's price!!
agreed 100%!Then they'd better change that stupid white piece at the top to black.
How I miss the days of subsidized iPhones starting at $199.
The € tends to be an inherently volatile currency owing to the large number of widely varied economies that use it, that'll make Apple more cautious in adjusting prices, lest there be a big movement just after it does. The £, for example, by contrast has traditionally been a very inert currency, taking big global-level events (2008 crash, Brexit) to shift it significantly. Other than that it tends to track in a predictable direction for long periods of time. That's why Apple will often seemingly be more generous with UK prices than continental ones, it's a safer bet there won't be any unseen big shifts in the value. Why doesn't apple lower prices in Euro now? They increased prices over here because of the "weak Euro"... so, now we have a very strong Euro again - apple your move now.
If you shop around in the weeks following the launch I guarantee a deal will crop up for around the list price mark, spread over a 2 year contract that includes calls/data etc.
It takes a lot of courage for Apple to price the iPhone 8 like this...
I remember last year when so many were saying that they were going to skip the iPhone 7 (6SS) and wait for the SUPER CYCLE this year with all the great features.
Now some of those same people are up in arms over the supposed price increase. Thought Apple was going to price their "super" upgrade the same as their "minor" one?
It's been such a roller coaster of emotions here. Great entertainment!
I don't understand what 'pro' even means.
Only... there will still be a 7s/ 7s+ based on the exact same chipset, same ram (for the +), possibly even same camera set-up, and for the same price as always. I wouldn't be surprised to see the range simplified back to an 8/8+ next year, taking on the design of the 'edition' for the price of the mainstream phones, either. The one Apple device attainable for everyone will suddenly become attainable to a few.
Hmm. I can't wait to see how this plays out.
THIS is why I'll never be locked into ANY ecosystem. I need to be able to leave when I want to.
I guarantee it will not.
Yes and no. They can get away with it because a lot of their customers are filthy rich. Enough that they'd sell out even if us middleclassers buy none.
That price doesn't surprise me to be honest. Based on those prices, I am expecting UK prices to start at £799 for the 64gb, £899 for 256gb and £1020 for 512mb.
I guess I will go for the 512mb as I have budgeted for £1100
They're just following Samsung's lead. The new Galaxy S8 Note starts at $929.These prices man. It doesn't even make sense. Like, at all. $1000 for a bloody smartphone, come on.
If one is struggling to justify dropping £/$/€ 1,000 on a yearly 'treat' like an iPhone can you really be middle class? I'd argue to be middle class you need to have that sort of cash available to drop on whatever you like, within reason. Less than that would be working class.Yes and no. They can get away with it because a lot of their customers are filthy rich. Enough that they'd sell out even if us middleclassers buy none.
And hopefully an updated SE as well.Only... there will still be a 7s/ 7s+ based on the exact same chipset, same ram (for the +), possibly even same camera set-up, and for the same price as always. I wouldn't be surprised to see the range simplified back to an 8/8+ next year, taking on the design of the 'edition' for the price of the mainstream phones, either.
