Am I the only one who thinks this takes the biscuit, long time Apple user and all the rest of it but I'm not paying the price of a Mac for an iPhone, Apple can go stick it where the sun don't shine this year.
Well pricing aren't going to improve. So it won't be just this year.

Most buy on contract anyway so should it be as big of an issue?

I do not do carrier contracts either, i buy my phones outright with sim only yearly data deals from EE; it works out cheaper for me. Here is hoping the 8 model includes a 128GB storage

I'm not that shocked or surprised. You want a premium device with all the latest toys, you have to pay the price. Most carriers are not really subsidizing like they used to be.

But here's the thing. No one is MAKING you buy the top of the line most expensive Apple phone they make. There are many other cheaper choices out there.

And here's the other thing. For me I have always had success selling my old phone for at least half of what I paid for it. So while $999 or so may sound like a lot, I suspect I can sell my old iPhone for $400-$500 fairly easily, which is close to half of what the new one will cost.

For the last few years, I have made out pretty good selling an older model of phone or tablet to fund a new one. Apple has done a great job of making products that do okay on the used market.

If, like me, you buy the latest and greatest iPhone every year, your net cost to do this isn't as terrible as you might think. And since I use my phone all the time because of the nature of my job and extensive travel, it is worth it to me to have the best phone with the best camera at all times.

Yep that's exactly what I do. I trade my phone in every year and get a good price for it and I have disposable income to be able to afford to add the extra to purchase the new model. And the extra I need to add isn't actually that much.

I'm sure it will sell, but personally I'm not willed to drop a grand on a phone that can't do much more than my current one (iPhone 6) which is still running strong. It's small increments these days with smartphones and nothing really exciting.

Have you seen any of the rumors? Small increments? Even the 7 has made several great changes over your 6. This new lineup will be even better. Butttt to each their own.

I want an Apple exec to stand on stage and show us something that even the most die-hard Samsung/Android fans will admit is years ahead of the competition.

They will- the pricing will be years ahead of the competition. That's what this article is about.

A little later, they'll follow up that advancement with profitability, which will also be years ahead of the competition.;)

Yeah a $930 phone with just 2 years support is a much better option than the one that's $70 more that's supported for 5.
It's got expandable storage which is worth more to me than updates. I have used both iOS and Android flagships and I don't care about updates on Android. With project treble almost the entire OS will be updated through the play store.

Well yes, a few models back I paid £35/month for an iPhone contract, my iPhone 6 is/was £55/month (leaving aside any amount paid up front), so introduce a huge hike in the cost of the product itself and I'd call that an issue for many. Well it's not an issue as those that can afford will buy like everything else, just a bit of a p**s take really, so I'll be leaving that one alone if true out of principal as much as anything.

What on earth could you use 512GB of storage on a phone for? How much offline 4K porn do you watch?

4k porn is the future! I'm almost running out of space on my Mac because of it.

The 7 Plus 256GB is $969....

I do not understand this outrage at all. Sell your old iPhone and put it towards the new one. Pay for the phone over 24/30 months.

It really isn't that bad...
They aren't comparable. The 256GB iPhone 8 will cost 1200 which is almost 300 bucks more.

And I don't like being stuck on contracts. I buy phones outright.

I don’t see any point in paying that much for a phone that I only use for basic apps, navigation and web browsing.

How I miss the days of subsidized iPhones starting at $199.
I don't. Sure the price was right but what did you really use a $199 device for? Phone calls and maybe check the weather app or email occasionally. I never had a problem with paying $999 or even $1499 for a pocket computer that I use 20x more often and for 20x more things than my $3000 iMac.

I really hope the price isn't as high as they say for this. I can see maybe 800 for a 64gb then 900 for the 128 and then 1000 for the 256/512. Memory is not expensive and just mark it up 800 percent. There better not be any 32gb, its 2017. I am looking forward to the edge to edge screen and the removal of those huge chin and forehead. I still don't know they they are releasing another 6 update as the 7s. There is no way its going to be called the 8 because then what will happen to next years line. Most likely something like iphone X or pro, and next year will be iphone 8 with a more updated design. It better not renew the 6 design for a fourth year. I enjoyed my test drive with the s8. The edge to edge screen was great, camera was great, but so many of my people use iphones I felt left out of the loop with certain things. I most likely will by the iphone with the edge to edge but hoping it wont kill my bank account.

These prices man. It doesn't even make sense. Like, at all. $1000 for a bloody smartphone, come on.

The smartphone is now an integral part of many people's lives. In some ways, it's even more vital than a laptop in the role it plays. I have no doubt that for many people, $1000+ is a fair price for the utility the iPhone will offer them.

But then these guys give you a nut kick by making earlier editions of all of their hardware no longer upgradeable to their current OS's, whether phones or tablets or computers.

Just can't get that excited, at least yet. Sure it's got a slightly bigger screen, but it's too iterative. It's just another iPhone, with the same old icon based functionality and form factor. I'm feeling jaded. I've bought in to the newest iPhones before, then looked across at someone using an older machine a few weeks later, and you know what, we're both enjoying identical experiences, only my pockets are a lot lighter.
