Face recognition... OK fine. But how well will it work? What if you are suddenly wearing a hat, a cap, glasses? Or your hair is completely screwed? Or your hair is down in your face? Or you look really tired from last nights extreme partying? or you broke your nose? Or wear an eye-cap?

There are so many scenarios where your face changes color/shape etc. - not so with fingerprints, unless you get your fingers snapped off or burned severely. I just don't see face recognition being as reliable as touchID.

What if I WANT someone to look at my phone. I have to stand behind them so FaceID detects my face?
If the face it detects is not yours, the Iphone will get instantaneously locked.
If that person tries to interact with the iPhone, It will ask for the password.

Some solutions are so obvious, I feel people are just creating problems for the sake of it...

To me iphone 8 front doesn’t look good. Boring is a term I would use. I understand the technical advantage.

Also I want the fingerprint reader to return. I pass this year.

I personally never purchase phones namely based on looks, but it's an initial drawing point at first. I look for functionality and what internal changes were made in terms of technology, performance, battery life, etc. Aesthetics are only superficial deep and last for so long Before you truly appreciate internal aspects of the phone, and its overall capabilities.

What's with the face recognition? Are they really getting rid of the fingerprint sensor? This feels like a huge step backwards. It's also hard to imagine how edge force touch will work with this thing once you slap a case on it.

I kinda like the aesthetic of the iPhone 8. Like the screen size. I'm a Samsung man myself phone wise so won't be getting one (although I have an iPad) but I can appreciate a pretty nice design and the iPhone 8 looks like a nice update to my eyes.

Every day they must woke up and pray that people don't discover another thing from this home pod software... it's just embarrassing.

Changes of color, shape and look don’t matter, as bad as you may look after a night out or in the morning...as different as you may look with beard or without It, the facial data points are still the same.

I guess if you are using glasses and covering your face with a scarf it won’t be able to recognize you but then again, Touch ID doesn’t recognize your finger print if you are wearing gloves, which is basically the same.

Im rapidly going off this iPhone8, I hope they call it "Edition", and charge 2200 Flurbos for it.
Sure lots of people will go for it - but for most of us, I think iPhone7s will be the way to go, especially ones on a contract upgrade path.

I still don't like the idea of someone quickly grabbing your phone point it towards you and run off with it.

For instance say you have private stuff of yourself. Maybe nudes, some sort of porn as I'm sure most Men do, but also have private financial stuff like logging into your Chase account. SO your driving and the passenger grabs your phone and points it at your face quickly as I'm sure it will unlock in less than a second. What are you now supposed to do. Pull over?
Or say its a jealous girlfriend or a gold digger looking for dirt on you.

So what are we supposed to do if the owner doesn't need a physical contact with the phone to unlock it or go to locked apps like I use TouchID to log into my banks app.

Face unlocky thingy can NOT be the only way to unlock ones phone. It's way too easy for your stuff to be compromised as opposed to grabbing your hand and placing a finger on the screen.

Hasn't a company already made a under screen finger print reader? I'm sure I read it on here not too long ago. So why can't Apple do so with the amount of money they have?
Nice friends you have.
Where I live people leave each others phone alone. We don’t grab for what reason someone’s phone. It’s not done. We have respect for someone's stuff.
Or are you all so paranoid?

I don't care, I'm still not getting into a driverless car speeding down freeway at 70 MPH. How many times has you phone, iPad, computer frozen up? Think about it.
Lovely. Wonderful. But please spare a thought for all those (mostly prospective) Tesla owners who are apparently having wet dreams about their driverless Model 3's.

If TouchID goes this year then it's never coming back, nor is the headphone jack, the USB port you can actually plug things into or the iPod shuffle.

I don't believe Apple actually meant to leak this stuff, there's just too many details there to be intentional, but it has had the effect of taking my total scepticism about facial recognition and start thinking it might be a good thing.

Incorrect.

Face ID apparently auto-locks the phone intermittently if the person using it isn't recognized, possibly quietly scanning each time a new app is opened. So it's actually safer in this regard, because Touch ID can't keep asking you to place your finger on the phone constantly, but Face ID can intermittently authenticate you as you use it.

For sharing your phone with others, my best guess is there will be a share mode, perhaps accessible in control center or the new function bar. You tap it, enter your passcode, and pass it to a friend or your kids. But I'm not an Apple engineer and perhaps they had a better idea.

Of course the tradeoff being that for the 95% of the time you aren't passing your phone to a friend, like I was saying, with Face ID you need to take zero actions for your phone to instantly authenticate your identity when it's needed. It's much more efficient. Most of the time when you pass your phone to somebody you have to authenticate for them anyway.

"Apparently auto-locks the phone intermittently if the person is not recognized." If true I would hope there is an option to turn of constant scanning. Such a feature would seem counter intuitive to battery life improvements. Efficiencies gained with the A11 and Battery Technology won't last with all this continuous scanning going on. :apple:

But what if you get really fat and the camera wont recognize you anymore?

Plus, i think FBI is gonna be realllly happy about this new 3d camera. All they'll have to do, to unlock certain phone, is tell the suspect "look in to the camera and smile!. That is if he wasnt shot in the head before or blew himself up.
