I love how people post in an 8/8+ thread to tell everyone that they're waiting for the X. Really? WGAF?

Those of us who are going to let others be X guinea pigs for its initial cycle will enjoy the ordering day meltdowns as delivery dates are pushed back to Easter 2018.

We're talking about mobile phones here, people. We're not all ordering cancer-curing superdrugs.

I think Apple may have shoot themselves in the foot, there is no flagship iPhone anymore: the iPhone 7s (aka 8) isn't the latest and greatest, and iPhone X is a niche product due to the price, controversy and limited stock.
lol. This 1 “niche” phone with outsell 90% or more of the flagship devices out there.

Yes, it is a flop. There are plenty of people in denial in the comments on the thread in the main page, but the numbers don't lie.
Less numbers several hours after day one sales does not equate to a flop.

Have you ever been in business? If not, would you expect your boss to declare a product is a flop from such a scenario? I don’t think so.

It really won't, its too expensive. £1000 might not be too much for some people but for the vast majority of iPhone users thats a step too far. Most people buy either the base storage plus model or one of the normal sizes in low - mid tier storage.

They are already being bent over with this years price increase on the 8, they are unlikely to drop another £200 on the X.

The challenge for the iPhone 8 is that Apple has already introduced a phone it calls "the future of smartphones." If people are not buying this phone now due to price or availability, many will be interested in buying it late next year. Given that, it may be difficult for many to shell out $700, $800, $950, etc for an 8 or 8+ given the 7 is still available. With many people wanting to keep iPhones for 3 or 4 years nowadays, buying an 8 now may not make the most sense given what's coming down the road.

If you usually get massive sales in your first few hours of releasing a new product and suddenly you don't then yes, you start to get worried. Apple are not like 99% of other businesses.

Its not like they sold out in an hour instead of 15 minutes. Its nearly 6 hours after launch and they are still all available at launch. Thats a huge huge change. Apple always sells out in minutes on launch day. Always.

But after watching the keynote, you only needed half a brain to realize Apple is flopping. Prices are insane, and offerings are laughable. It doesn't take much to fix it, but for now it looks like they're falling into a giant canyon without a parachute.

I think Apple could not be happier with this. The reason: I believe it shows that most are holding out for the X. You are talking about a variable that has never existed before thus you can't look at it the same way. There is an alternative to the 2 new 8's which has never been the case before.

Wait for the quarter sales reports. There are a lot of reasons involved with your expectations not coming to fruition. And not all of it has to do with Apple.

This is ridiculous given the iPhone X is the most anticipated phone in years, the Apple Watch continues to improve and get great reviews, iPads and Macs are humming along, etc. This year is just tricky for iPhones

Preorders started at 9am over here and 6 hours in all expect 256+ Space gray and Gold are still available for delivery at launch.

On a Swedish Apple forum that last year at this time had pages upon pages of people saying they had ordered 4! people has posted that they have ordered.

I'm not quite sure how you remedy it though. You can't really stand up and say "we hear you guys, you don't want to spend £X on a new phone. We made a mistake and have lowered our prices". Apple went balls deep with their new pricing on both the 8 and the X. I think their sales of the 8 would have been much much better if they had just done the right thing and kept it at last years prices.

I would have an 8+ on order right now if it was £719 for a 64gb 8+. As it stands I'm struggling to convince myself to pay £800 for it.

I don't think apple expect the vast majority of iPhone upgraders to be willing to spend £1000 on a phone.

Oh I know we can't be sure that it won't be a good quarter for apple but I would personally bet that it won't be.

Not sure if it is a flop but it’s 7 in the morning and the only model that has slipped in availability is the gold 64gb 8+.

Last year all pluses slipped within 5 minutes.

It sure looks like the 8 isn't exactly flying off the shelves compared to previous models. Getting the X is going to take a lot of patience and might prove very frustrating for some.

I think a lot of people feel like how you do and are struggling to justify spending that much on the new phone. Either way they priced out too many people. That demand fever of people lining up to get the new iPhone is gone. They took their best free marketing tool and threw it in the garbage. Really weird.

Hopefully Apple can assess the demand for the X a little better now. Less colors and configurations, plus the already implemented 6-8 week delay on it will help. I would assume they also wanted to have more on hand for the holiday season as well, and not have ALL the orders leak into 2018.

I'm sure we will see sales figures over the next few weeks, a lot of people could be holding out for the iPhone X, that's the reason I didn't get the 8 Plus, why do that when for around £200 more you get:

OLED screen with HDR
Face ID
Telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture
Portrait Mode on the front camera
Portrait lighting on the front camera
Dual optical image stabilisation

Also the band around the iPhone X is made from stainless steel, obviously that's not a big thing but it is a difference from the 8 and 8 Plus. I don't think the 8 or 8 Plus is a bad phone but I do think a lot of people will be looking at the X, especially since that's the one that has had most of the headlines.

It certainly doesn't mean that it's a flop  but time will tell and we will see.
