finally a solid leak.

I'm sooo happy :')

This is my next phone, OLED bezel-less beauty running iOS. My S8 won't be missed.

If that image is correct there's still bezels

All ‘bezel less’ phones still have bezels. We’re not in a time where it’s posible to be completely bezel less.

The S8 has a top an bottom chunky bezel. The LG g6 has major bezels with the logo at the bottom too.

This iPhone looks to be the most bezel less phone to date.

Even the xiaomi mix phone has huge bottom bezel.

Maybe the cutout won't be that ugly. Like the camera bump, it grows on you.

Like clockwork. This is how a lot of people who previously scoffed at the design rumors will react when the phone releases.

I also see a lot of comments saying "well, maybe facial recognition won't be so bad."

I wish people would just wait until the execs get on stage and reveal it.

OK this is from Apple themselves:

"Every transaction on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac requires you to authenticate with Touch ID or your passcode"

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201469

Unless Apple is lying I don't think TouchID is required for ApplePay.

PS I hope I didn't come off sounding like a jerk :)

Not at all. It just furthers the debate, which I'm fine with. I'm half tempted to disable my TouchID to see if Apple Pay still works :)

I tried it. You were right. Although I didn't go to a terminal and attempt to pay, it does appear to allow a passcode, since TouchID was disabled.
Before disabling TouchID ...and After

I can see it now..
Please move your face further back it's too close.
Please move your face closer it's too far away.
All instead of - please press the home button.....
Yeah real innovation and moving tech forward!
Really can't see this being half as good as Touch ID. People will probably go back to pin codes!
Oh and as for the design, people do realise ever since the first iPhone it's ALWAYS had balanced chin on the top and bottom, the same size, one of the things I like about the iPhone actually, but this new design has removed that and you will now have the top chip bigger then the bottom which will feel weird when holding the phone in its side, it'll constantly look unbalanced when watching videos or playing games etc.
I hope they put a black bar on the bottom to even it out otherwise it'll look silly.

You can't see it because it doesn't support your daily anti-Apple narrative. Far easier to complain than to muster some imagination.

I think we're ALL getting a bit ahead of ourselves here.

"infrared face detection" and all the API's featured actually can be JUST for better more acurrate depth in pictures and in video for a fixed focal point.

EDIT:

Further to this ...

Facial recognition would affect not only TouchID but ApplePay both for local payments and also for online payments and the upcoming ApplePay within iMessage for sending money to another iMessage person!

How exactly are you wtih your apple iphone 8 supposed to make a payment at a point of sale ApplePay terminal when you're holding the phone TO the console and your face right in front of it? Nose pictures anyone?!

That would be QUIET weird. Think about this one.

You realize that a passcode can be used for Apple Pay and unlocking your phone right?

Glad to help de-mistify anyway I can! I guess I always assumed TouchID was required for Apple Pay because of the whole "secure enclave". But, I stand corrected. I can eat humble pie at anytime! :D
The sad thing is someone will come to this forum tomorrow when the thread is 15 pages deep and start moaning about TouchID and ApplePay all over again; rinse and repeat....

OMG, the sky is falling, the sky is falling! Calm down and stop the FUD. Apple's face detection tech is not based on what you've previously seen, and you clearly have not been following what Apple has been developing in that area.

Lmaoo thank you! Apple knows wtf they are doing. I wish the Keynote was tomorrow so people could finally stop whining (for the most part).

Feel sorry for the people responsable for this leak at Apple... . They gonna get some heat.

Uhhh I doubt it. This happens a lot actually. There are several instances where someone discovers code deep in firmware or a beta.

We've "known" about facial recognition and the design of the phone for a while.

I think everyone involved with this will be able to keep their jobs.

Hopefully Touch ID will still be available. My main concern is how this face ID would work in the dark. But if it's infrared, maybe it will. We will find out in a few months.

whose idea is it to put the face camera and speaker in the middle of the screen. That design is atrocious.

.... and the police will be able to easily force people to unlock their phones. I guess Apple's earlier fight with the FBI was more bruising than expected.

Face ID is not mandatory...

Some of these comments. Holyyyy ****.

What about times where you are unlocking your phone but not looking at it? Sometimes my phone is on my desk and i just hold a finger on the Touch ID sensor to unlock it, but my phone is essentially facing the ceiling.

It's not in the middle, it's at the top. Same place it's always been :D

I meann, you DO eventually look at it, right? Otherwise that would defeat the purpose of unlocking it.

Errrmahgerrd....I've finally made it to 100 posts. I'm a regular here! It only took 3 years :D

This could potentially be better than TouchID if implemented right. No problems with wet fingers etc.
Actually, no. FaceID or whatever they call it wil never be as good as TouchID, and here is the reason. Every random thug can now take your phone and put it in front of your face. Also corrupt government bodies can now under duress easily force their way into the phone. With TouchID you at least have 5 tries and then it only unlocks with the passcode. So in that way the phone will be way less secure with facial recognition.

Put a mirror on the ceiling and just look above, you're done! :D

This is one of the things that make me skeptical about having just the face detection. I use my iPhone flat on the table a lot, and for a quick interaction I sometimes lift it from the table but don't look directly at it. The face recognition should work with a really wide angle to detect my face in those scenarios.
