I hope the aspect ratio is NOT 18.5:9 or something ridiculous like that. Just stick to 16:9.
They did a 20th anniversary mac.Apple has never done an "anniversary" edition of any product, the press need to stop calling the iPhone 8 that. It's just iPhone 8, nothing limited or special about it, just the next iPhone design that will be used for 3-4 years
I recall the same news this time last year for the iPhone 7. If you don't pre-order at 12am PT/3am ET...yeah, expect your iPhone to ship in 2, 4, 8 weeks! I suspect if you don't pre order on Pre-Order date this year, you may not see that new phone until mid December at the earliest.
I'm still on the 6 Plus..I plan to finally upgrade this time...I ONLY hope the Apple Store App, Apple Website can upgrade their servers (whatever it is they do) to handle the traffic. I tried adding the iPhone 7 Plus back in Sept. - just to see if I could - and I had problems. Next thing I know the Phone has a delivery date of mid November..I know many shipped before the estimated delivery date though. I can image how initially deflating it must have felt for many.
The demand for this model will be extremely massive.
I heard a rumor that water is wet.
People who agree to wait till September don't visit macrumorsomg enough, can we all just agree no one knows and lets wait till September to find out geeeez
There's some irony in your first line, however this year's iPhone(s) will already be the 11th (and 12th) iPhone iterations (not even counting the 5C and SE), so even though this past January the iPhone's introduction was 10 years ago, this upcoming new crop of phones arguably aren't really 10th year editions. That would have been in 2016.Please no more "Anniversary iPhone" posts. When the original iPhone was introduced at Macworld Expo January 9th 2007, and the rumours from 3 days ago say the iPhone 8 may not ship until November, how on earth can it be an anniversary iPhone? If it indeed ships in November (I doubt it) it will be 3/4 closer to an 11 year iPhone. Anniversaries mean nothing to Apple.

I believe the render at the top of this article is 99.99% what it will look like. But I also think that part of the screen where touch ID lives will be more of a function area ala MBP touch bar than an actual extension of the screen. My $0.02
It seems like Apple is going to split the screen into two sections. Apps will have access to a 5.1" 16:9 upper portion of the screen that will work pretty much the same way the existing LCD screen does now. The lower 1/2" or so will replace the home button and will be reserved for Apple's system to use for contextual buttons.
I don't think apps will have any direct access to the lower on-screen buttons. Apple is going to ensure at a minimum that area always has the equivalent of a "Home" button and probably a touch ID available at all times. I think the lower buttons will only display Apple system functions and no custom app code will be allowed to run in that sandboxed space.
What happens to that function area when you are watching movies or playing games?
... while challenges exist in integrating the 3D sensing front camera system.

this..exactly the model Johnny Ive's has been looking for - from there I don't expect many more exterior changes.Apple has never done an "anniversary" edition of any product, the press need to stop calling the iPhone 8 that.
