My current 256GB iPhone 7+ didn't cost much less than this one. If I end up buying the iPhone 8 one a year after buying my current phone, that's on me for being dumb and spending my money foolishly. That being said, where do I send my payment?

The reason why Apple can do this today is because no one, except the handful of suckers who buy unlocked at full retail and think they are beating the system, will see it as $1000. It is $49/mon for 12 months, then trade up and continue.

Not beating the system. Some don't like debt and/or would just rather pay the phone rather than paying apple or a carrier every month.

So the S8 has every thing this phone is rumored to have, and it's already out. Why is this one $250-$400 more expensive? Just the apple tax?

Aside from the A11 processor which will be best on the market as Apple processors normally are, the 3D sensor tech, improved dual camera system allowing for optical zoom, Touch ID (hopefully) under the screen as opposed to the back of the phone, and of course the Apple ecosystem benefits, etc

The GS8 is a fantastic phone if not the best phone out on the market but it doesn't have everything this iPhone is rumoured to have.

How do you know I don't have $600 in my account? Also where did I say it was urgent?

I'm going to shop for the best deal no matter and at the end of the day I'm paying $600 for the phone regardless of if I pay it out right or in the 24 months. There's no incentive for me pay it out right.

If there was a discount to pay it outright then that would be different.

It's you who originally said that you can get a $150 discount if you buy it outright at Walmart.

I was hoping the top tier would be $1000+ for 512GB... that would be enticing.

We will have to wait and see if that phone is truly worth that money or if it will merely be a nice design with the SOS inside you can get for a few hundred cheaper on the regular models. IMHO this iPhone doesn't yet seem to be more than an interesting new design with SOS inside.

$999 US is about $18,900 MXN, or a week in the Mayan Riviera with my girlfriend, all inclusive... -.-

Poor comparison. Whilst it's too expensive, this phone is potentially 3 years of utility. A week of great sex and lots of food doesn't make up for 3 years of utility.

Sorry gf.

"she doesn't believe the iPhone 8 will be available in 32GB"

I would not be surprised if Apple went back to 16GB.

Well when 5g lte becomes the norm I believe there will be no use for onboard storage , JMOO ! 25 years as a engineer !

Hopefully not. Conceptually, it sounds very good... but then you have to think it through. Do you really want to trust "strangers" as caretakers of up to all of your data? Do you want to trust the likes of AT&T, Verizon, etc, to be reasonable middlemen between you and your data? Do you trust that at such a time, an Apple would reduce the price because they are leaving out the traditional storage hardware or just enjoy the cost savings as additional profit? Do you want to believe that the "free" storage you enjoy now will be improved by some level of renting distant storage?

We tend to revolve around the wonders for us consumers in "trusting the cloud" by often referring to it as "the future." But all we're really doing is taking something that we have traditionally & entirely controlled and allowing for-profit businesses- some of which are practically detested and often tagged "greedy"- to inject themselves between us and our data/media/etc. And what's that get us? Thinner (is that something any of us genuinely want anymore)? iPhone price cuts (because Apple has a recent history of ejecting hardware out of their products and reducing:rolleyes: their prices)? What exactly do we consumers get?

If your interested this is a great read about what is to come then you will understand why I believe phones will go back to a smaller storage.

By the time 5G goes live storage will be even cheaper. Companies are already bundling 256GB SD card for free with 64GB internal storage. And, cloud storage will always have issues with reception and data caps. Instead of relying on cloud storage I'd rather use local storage and sync backup up to cloud.

Holding on to my 7 Plus, 128GB until it dies.

Gee. You have an $800, less than one year old flagship smartphone and you might keep it for another year.

it is a luxury if you are even contemplating being in the market for a new smartphone this Fall. Now I would say it is a luxury that is often worth it for a device we all use a lot. But, as I sit here typing on a five year old computer, I don't think you should expect to replace smartphones yearly. That wasn't going to continue to be what people did forever.

If they can get Touch ID to work on the front via screen, then yep... they can charge. On the back and I'll skip it.

I'll pay $1,000 for an excellent phone. But the potential problem for Apple is that I will only be willing to do that maybe once every three years.

Well how much will the 64Gb cost and should Apple give more free iCloud space by now instead f just 5GB It least one drive and Dropbox give a lot more free space, I thought Apple was into the whole cloud thing.

But the price for this new iPhones ouch is this only for people who are Trump supporter I mean I just want a phone but when it comes to a iPhone after have the same for more than 4 years it becomes less compatible because of hardware and iOS updates slow down the phone. I hope there will be special going on by the Cell providers because it feels like Apple is back at their bad habits.

Since the 4S came out I've been reliably upgrading every 2 years on the S cycle like clockwork. This will be the first time I skip it. My 6S Plus still works great, and at this point nothing that's rumored for the "8" is enough to get me to drop the kind of money I'd drop on an iPad or Macbook. Gonna have to peace out on this one and wait for a true upgrade in technology, like maybe 5G or something.

You can generalize all you want, but where I live, the only contract I can get to subsidize a phone would raise my bill at least $40/mo and cuts my data in half. That price increase would offset the subsidy in 15 months... and the contract is for 24. And I'd be stuck with a more expensive/lower service plan forever more.

I wish there was a better option, and I'd always gotten phones on contract before, but plans around here have gotten truly awful.

If Samsung can manage to sell millions of the S8+ for $850+ sales tax= $920 then I think Apple will have no problems selling theirs for around a thousand dollars. This reminds me of the infamous interview with Steve Ballmer about the 500 dollar iPhone:

Even sadder is that Microsoft had some pretty decent-performing phones under $200...

...and no one bought them... ;)

Really love all the "I'm out" statements here. Ya. Ok. Many will be first in line, Apple will have another best seller, and well, the stock will continue to sore, LOL.
