Wasn't going to get one prior to this rumor, I don't see a reason based on leaked specs.. and now the prices. Can easily wait 2 to 3 years because software hasn't come close to pushing the hardware in these phones. Just give me a new interface in IOS 11 or at least a ton of new features and I'm happy.
Well said.

I mean, I will be paying the price because I am do for an upgrade from my 6+.

Am I happy about it, not really but I have my finances in order where I can afford one. Plus the only other major apple purchase I have made recently was the 2016 rMB m5 at a $300 discount. Only two apple products I own (I forgot about the iPod nano 5th gen that sits in my drawer that never gets used). I talked myself out of an apple watch for now because I don't see the point of dropping $300+ for an extension of my phone. This is comparing to some people on here that have thousands of dollars of apple products (not to call anyone out, it's their life wether it befits them business wise or just as an enthusiast).

Apple could jack up the price even more if they wanted to and people will still pay for it. You are paying for more than just the hardware (software, customer service, etc.).

I've rarely had any issues with apple products over the 11 years I have owned them. When I went to the samsung galaxy s3 on a whim because my 4 got stolen 3 days before a trip, I loved the new feel of something different. Down the line, the phone was sent to the factory TWICE for technical issues and I paid far out the ass to get them taken care of.

Apple just works and it works well. It's a premium product that commands the price they are asking for. Another example for me was when the 2016 rMBP were released. I waited several months holding off from buying a rMB because I wanted to see what they would bring to the table. While the touch bar looked awesome, for me and my uses it didn't justify the $500 up-charge. I went with a 2016 rMB and I love this thing!

I am ready for a new phone and have chimed in to the iPhone and Alternative to iOS forums to see what others had to say. Go with the 7+, s8+, or wait it out. For now, I am waiting it out as my almost 3 year old iPhone 6+ has been excellent with one minor repair (camera pin, which they replaced FOR FREE).

Apple's pricing is totally whacko for all their products now...it was bad now its insane.
That's what happens when you have a bean counter sheriff in town, laser focused on the share holders only. Now don't get me wrong, that IS Tim's job and he's done that aspect well. It's just that the old Apple under SJ forged a more genuine connection between company and consumer. True it might have been all smoke and mirrors, but that connection felt real in the eyes of many. These days Apple still makes great products, but that warm essence is slowly being replaced as more sterile, cold, calculating, and profit driven.

Can you pay more if you want?

We have come a long way since the very first iPhone that was subsidized heavily by AT&T.

Such a high price is further proof that the smart phone is a must have item in people's lives.

It's odd that the price of smartphones keeps going up.
Normally with tech products/electronics the trend is for the price to get lower over time.
Wonder if this overpriced smartphone bubble will ever burst?

These prices are insane. Smartphones should have gotten cheaper since their inception, not more expensive. They shouldn't cost the same as a very powerful desktop PC.

Apple's head is well and truly in the clouds when it comes to pricing. At this point, they're just testing how far their customers will allow them to rip them off.

Apple need to stop being so delusional if they want to stay relevant. Consumers WILL start revolting, as they already are.
You know as well as I do that this will sell faster than Apple can produce them and likely have record sales. Apple still manufactures several other iPhones at more reasonable price points. Or, if the $999 "iPhone 8" is out of your price range, check out the $850 Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus for $850 (with 64 GB).

If you want the best, you have to expect to pay for it. I know I'll be buying on day one whatever the price.

If it really is the best then it's worth paying for, but from the rumours nothing is new on this upcoming model to justify a price increase other than the Touch ID built into the display. However this feature alone doesn't justify a £1000+ pricing. OLED screens, wireless charging, curved glass etc have all been around on other phones for years. They're no longer cutting edge tech and prices for them would be lower not higher. Apple doesnt create any of this tech from scratch they purchase in bulk at the lowest price then mash it altogether into the iPhone, which means there is no justification for such price increases.

iPhones haven't been the best for the last few years, I continue to buy them for iOS because it works seemlessly with my Mac and the majority of my family use them and we can FaceTime. iPhone 6, 6S and 7 are identical in design with a few minor improvements in the standard CPU, GPU and camera areas. They've been stale for years other than yearly price increases.

But Apples upgrade programme isn't popular really outside the US and I'm not even sure it's available in all markets? In the UK it's still a case of getting the phone on the carrier network, and those carriers either subsidise the cost back to Apple or charge a lot for contracts, which is usually the case.
You'll be looking at £40 to £50 monthly contracts for the phone because Apple will not allow its phones to be discounted.

I'm also from the UK so I know I was saying the options that are there, but also don't forget that there will probably still be the option of the 7s and 7s Plus for those that can't afford it.

The Galaxy s8 64 Gig is $1035+tax in Canada, the iPhone 7+ 32 Gig is $1080, I can only imagine what a $1000US iPhone 8 will go for here.

Smartphones aren't going up in price. The Apple tax is rising.

When the market is saturated, and growth has stalled, what's left to do but raise the price? Sorry Apple. I used to be "one of the fanboys" who bought all things Apple. Those days are long gone. When my 2012 rMBP dies, that will be the last Apple product I own for a while. Loving my Google Pixel tho.

The fact is - if you have to have the latest and greatest now toy on the market. You are going to pay for the bragging rights. In 2 months they will lower the price, so the second wave of consumers can afford it. In two years they will be giving the phones away. This is called business.

I just can't anymore. With the increase of price with MacBookand now this. I will not be able to afford an upgrade every year. I'll have no choice but to start upgrading my iPhone every other year.

The very first iPhone was actually sold for $499-$599 for its first few months without any subsidies.

This looks beautiful. I hate to say it, though, if the Touch ID is on the back I won't buy it

Which Samsung counters with a properly placed headphone jack :)

Are people still talking about the headphone jack. The reality is that wireless head/earphones are the future, since owning the Airpods I haven't used or wanted to go back to the headphone jack. Most people that I've spoke to don't have a problem with it going away.

Gee. You have an $800, less than one year old flagship smartphone and you might keep it for another year.

it is a luxury if you are even contemplating being in the market for a new smartphone this Fall. Now I would say it is a luxury that is often worth it for a device we all use a lot. But, as I sit here typing on a five year old computer, I don't think you should expect to replace smartphones yearly. That wasn't going to continue to be what people did forever.

Quite Presumptuous. I was plainly making a statement that I intend to keep it until it dies. My previous device was a 4S. I do not upgrade devices with each iteration. Oh, and I am typing this on a 6 year old computer.
