I'm also from the UK so I know I was saying the options that are there, but also don't forget that there will probably still be the option of the 7s and 7s Plus for those that can't afford it.

What 7S and 7S Plus? There have been NO rumours or leaks about those phones, every single one of them are what this site reports as iPhone 8 rumours.
At present all the rumours and leaks point to Apple launching just one phone model this year and that's the iPhone 8 in one size.

The reason why Apple can do this today is because no one, except the handful of suckers who buy unlocked at full retail and think they are beating the system, will see it as $1000. It is $49/mon for 12 months, then trade up and continue.

I buy my devices unlocked at full retail. I am not beating any system, there is just no real difference so I go for what is most useful for me. At most I can save £50 over the lifetime of a contract by paying 3 times as much a month, but that also locks me to that carrier for 12-24 months instead of 30 days. The suckers are those who think they are not paying full or nearly full list price because they do not add up their monthly bill, or are not offered lower monthly bills if no handset is included.

I'm pretty excited for a new iPhone. But once my phone hits $1k mark I'll probably draw the line.
That fits me to a "T" I'm excited at the rumored features, the design of the phone and components (more ram for example), but jumping from a price tag of 400 for my SE to 1,000 is extreme. One issue I have is how long will I have it. I'm not going to spend 1,000 for something that will get replaced in 2 years.

The iPhone 7s and 7s Plus are rumoured to be announced alongside the iPhone 8 this year, it's been rumoured for a while. Even the very reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has talked about it.

Quite Presumptuous. I was plainly making a statement that I intend to keep it until it dies. My previous device was a 4S. I do not upgrade devices with each iteration. Oh, and I am typing this on a 6 year old computer.

Well I thought you were saying the fairly typical thing of "Apple has failed to convince me to turn in my one year old iPhone, therefore Apple is failing at innovation in general." I think that is ridiculous. But I made a bad assumption. I guess you are a frugal person and this rumor convinces you to double down on that frugality because you ain't easily being convinced to buy a $1,000 iPhone. Sorry.

Oh, 2011 iMac? Me too!

Your 7 plus is no more than 8 months old. If you are having battery problems serious enough to consider purchasing a new phone then you need to take your current phone to the Apple store for an under-warranty repair or replacement. There is no way I would stand for a $969 device to crap out and not get it fixed.
I would rather just get a new phone then get some refurbished crap but in my opinion getting refurbished you are just asking for more trouble

It's less than a year old and there's no way the battery should fail that fast. Get it replaced under warranty

But airpods sounds like crap even compared to other BT ear buds. I've had them for 2 weeks and really tried to like them but ended up returning them because the sound sucked so bad. Not to mention you look like a total tool with them on.

Sound quality is fine, lower than some BT ear buds as they are not in ear so don't form a seal, but better than other similar buds. As for looking a total tool, even without the AirPods I do.

Same here. I'm obviously an outlier, but I've never needed a phone with more than 16GB of storage, so having 1/4 TB on a phone is not worth any price.

I recently purchased a ZTE Axon phone. Granted that this phone is outdated as it is. It was sweet deal, for 180CAD, it does everything I need and do it without any noticable lag or slow down. I have hard time to justify myself shelling out 1000 plus tax for a phone.

iPhone will be decline to a niche product. There are not lack of good and reasonably priced smartphone. Only fools shell out 1000 plus for a smartphone can't get crap done.

Agree air pods sound horrible would much rather spend $50 on Sony extream bass and have some clams to spare

Agree? I said the sound was fine. I'm more than happy with my AirPods, wouldn't give them up even if you offered me $1000. (as it would take 6 weeks before I could get a replacement)

And if someone doesn't want a new phone every year, what do they do then? Buying up front and sim-less does a few things. First, your plan is cheaper. Second, you can jump from one carrier to another. Third, you can choose to skip a month if you don't have the money because an emergency came up. Fourth, your credit is not on the line if you miss a payment.

Freedom is always better.
First and foremost his assessment is simply wrong, because buying for full price is simply cheaper than the subsidised plans. So the sucker comment applies to himself.

If it really is the best then it's worth paying for, but from the rumours nothing is new on this upcoming model to justify a price increase other than the Touch ID built into the display. However this feature alone doesn't justify a £1000+ pricing. OLED screens, wireless charging, curved glass etc have all been around on other phones for years. They're no longer cutting edge tech and prices for them would be lower not higher. Apple doesnt create any of this tech from scratch they purchase in bulk at the lowest price then mash it altogether into the iPhone, which means there is no justification for such price increases.

iPhones haven't been the best for the last few years, I continue to buy them for iOS because it works seemlessly with my Mac and the majority of my family use them and we can FaceTime. iPhone 6, 6S and 7 are identical in design with a few minor improvements in the standard CPU, GPU and camera areas. They've been stale for years other than yearly price increases.

Apple often invests in new machines for manufacturing and quite a lot . And i would not call an a11 , an off the shell part, same as the 3d printed pcb that is new and first used tech, etc. All i am saying is that things are quite different with this iphone 8.

I think I'll have the rumoured new SE with the flush camera, thanks.

What rumor? If you are referring to that photo of a glass back, that has proven to be not legit. It was for another brand smartphone.

All of my purchases of Apple products are paid for with money from Apple dividends from owning a relatively small amount of stock.
I suggest this strategy for others who appreciate the ios/OS ecosystem but don't like the prices. A share of stock costs $155. Start small and build over time. At 2,000 shares Apple will pay you about $5,000 a year that you can use to buy products.

Not really worth it is it? Based on your numbers that's a return of $2.50 per share or 1.6% per year return on your investment, excluding increases in the stock price.

There's far better things to invest money in.

How are we suckers? My iPhone 6 Plus cost me less per month to pay off the initial retail price than any contract and now only costs me £10 a month for my pay as you go deal, with unlimited texts and vastly more data and phone usage than I use. I can always sell it and "trade up" any time I want too, and still be paying FAR less than any contract.

The high price provides room for heavy discounting once the initial demand subsides.

It's all about matching supply to demand. Apple has priced past phones too low at launch leading to long lines at stores, long waits once initial stock sells out, scalpers worsening the situation whilst pocketing handsome profits at the expense of Apple's regular customers.

Wait a few months and you'll get $200-250 off at resellers (but not at the Apple Store, obviously). A few more months and it'll be $300 off.

Patience.

I'd be tempted by an iPhone 7 and the half price Note 7 re-release, still cost less haha!

That was dated November last year, their have been no rumours this year and everyone I've seen is mentioned on this site as iPhone 8 rumours.

Yeap, £12 a month for me, sim only 12 month contract on Tesco with 1500 minutes and 5000 text and 4GB 4G data, over a 2 year period the overall cost is wwwaaaaayyyyyyy less then a full contract. But it all depends on how much you use your phone, but even then for £25 a month you can get 5000 text and 5000 minutes and 20GB of data etc. Getting that and buying the phone outright is still cheaper then getting it in contract.. and that's on a 12 month sim only deal!

Now if Samsung do sell fixed Note 7's for half price as rumoured, that's a high end top spec phone for around £350, stick that on a cheap SIM only contract and you have a hell of a phone for low cost. It makes you think..

Firstly you said there had been NO mention of a 7s and 7s Plus and there clearly has! the time frame doesn't matter because there is often chatter of iPhone's very early on. Secondly there is still very much talk of an iPhone 7s and 7s Plus that will launch this year with the iPhone 8 being the 10th anniversary edition

"Apple is widely expected to be launching three new iPhone models for 2017"

I think I have gotten over my iPhone upgrade phase. And I think it happened this year when I financed a phone through Apple. Now each month when I get the email reminder that they are charging my account 40-ish dollars so I can brag to ppl that I got the jet black phone is silly.

That really made me think. Do I want to keep paying Apple anywhere between $35-$50 or so per month for the privilege of trading my phone in each year? And for me at least, the answer was no. I certainly couldn't imagine spending my life financing a phone of all things every year. Even at zero interest rate, that is still money I can budget for something else.
