iPhone 8 Shell Render Features Vertical Dual-Lens Camera, iPhone 5-Style Body

Ant that's why the are damn good reasons why buttons etc. are placed relative to screens in mobile devices - referring to usability and ergonomics. If the hole in the back and being it is where it is, for a fingerprint sensor, then it's just plain stupid. You'd have to complete the process two-handed or dislocate your thumb.

Dumb gets dumber.
if the fingerprint scanner is where the s8 is then yes its dumb but having it right in the middle isn't really a major issue. As thats where my finger is when i pick up my 7 plus so it would hardly be an issue using it. the same with the pixel

I just can't believe that MR staff, supposedly informed individuals, can write stuff to the effect of "Apple may need to lock in the design soon". If you know ANYTHING about prototyping and engineering you'd know that the design has been locked in long ago. The leaks are coming out now due to the production ramp up, and yes, what we're seeing here is the new iPhone, rear TID and all.

And there's that fingerprint sensor hole on the back.
Nah, thats the wireless charging port, you stick your finger in it back and forth pressing against a lever and it wirelessly charges your phone. Pump that sucker 100 times for 1 hour extra usage :D

Touch ID on the rear?

That's how I felt when Apple put the power button on the side. Still hate it to this day. At least on the top you had somewhere to aim for. (I have the Apple leather case and there is no positive bump. Case is also falling to pieces.)

These are renders from schematics. It's likely by now that there have been more than a handful of different design schematics as design and technology are matched together. It's also likely that this is something like what a new iPhone might look like or not.

Any render is conjecture - an educated guess at best. It's not a 'Leak' - if anything it's wishful thinking from the instagrammer who published it.

Besides; who's going to want to put a case over that touch ID sensor on the back? If it were even true, that hole is more likely for conductive charging. Think about it.

The fingerprint reader will only be on the back as they weren't smart enough to figure out how to integrate fingerprint reading technology into the screen. How many years have they had to innovate a solution to this?

Unapologetically compromised.

I've thought about switching over to Android but I'm trapped by iOS. The amount of money I've spent on Apps is too much to lose out on. I would be disgusted.
Facts man literally all my password save me in safari , Apple Pay is awesome I really can't have anything but a iPhone

Could this be an updated SE?

I much prefer the rounded edges of current models. With a 2.5d screen it's going to look very weird with this shell design.

I believe it will be for a 3d-"depth" sensor. This can be used for VR/AR applications - a topic, that we know, Apple has been working on in the past years. Here is something from Google, that could be pretty similar:

Adding this sensor will make VR ubiquitous - and give us a good reason to buy new phones.

This is just the ugliest thing I've seen since the SE (hey it was pretty cool in 2013, but seriously??). Well if you can drop a steaming pre-touch screen technology (that's pre-2007, for those not paying attention) Touch Bar on a Mac Pro Air and expect customers to sing your praises, you will probably do just about anything.

I can't say I hate the 7, as I love my 6Plus, but surely things have moved on from the 6 design by now.

Is this just Apple's way of getting us to beg for the ultimate, ultimate expression of the current design in a 7s ?

Damn, that's an ugly prospect. I was due to upgrade last year, but thought better to wait. My 6Plus is going to seem pretty slow waiting to see if Apple can ship something worth the money in 2018.

Have I said how UGLY that rendering is? Hang a pork chop on it and see if the dog will play with it, then. Man that's depressing.

I agree, it looks more like a SE+ , that is meant for release in the, not so near , future... perhaps september 2018? A low cost bigger iphone in 2018 perhaps?

IF this is to be accurate, Im glad they stuck with a metal body. The Touch ID sensor location is trash for sure though. Ill be ready to upgrade in 2018 with the sensor properly in the display :p

I'm missing something, you pick up your phone with a finger on the back of your phone? Surely people pick up a phone with fingers at it sides?

If you lay it on the table face down, i guess...

when you pick your phone up and hold the 7 plus my finger is pretty much in the middle as i use it. i mean how else can you hold a phone. You finger isn't staying on the side of the device your finger is at the back of the device in the middle.

i'm talking about when you are using your phone not actually picking it up. obviously if you want to use touch ID on the desk then yes you would need to pick it up each time

Flush camera, sharper edges, no antenna bands? That's an iPhone I would buy. Missing the clean, unique look of my 5S (but not missing its tiny display at all).

I would even get over the missing headphone jack if the final appearance of the phone will be similar to this one. Otherwise, if Apple continues putting out those Galaxy-esque designs full of compromises (protruting camera, antenna bands, curved-but-not-so-curved display), I will pick up a 6S, which is the last one available with an headphone jack, and make it last the longer it can.

If it is a fingerprint sensor, is not close to camera lens at least. Big fail from Samsung on this one aspect.
