I'm probably in the minority here
but that looks awful

Not feeling the design

Do people really think Apple is going to do a new design for the 7S (or whatever they call it) that moves the home button/Touch ID to the rear of the device and then and iPhone 8 which has the home button/Touch ID back to the front imbedded in the display? That makes no sense. I'm highly skeptical Apple is going to announce two brand new iPhone designs this fall.

If Apple only releases a 7S in September, their stock should Crash horribly! 4 years using the same design and charging still charging $1000

Why is Mac Rumors persistent in claiming this design is only 'slightly' larger then an iPhone 7, get over it, face the facts no matter how hard you want to believe Max Rumors, it is NOT going to be slightly larger or the same size as the iPhone 7, it is more or less smack bang in between the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.

And this design has one stupid potential Touch ID hole on the back.

How much bigger does the screen need to be? I'm not a fan of this whole bezel free idea. I prefer somewhere to rest my sausage fingers. For an anniversary iPhone it should be perfected in every area and it should retain the essence of the original which includes the home button.

I've thought about switching over to Android but I'm trapped by iOS. The amount of money I've spent on Apps is too much to lose out on. I would be disgusted.

Can they please let this damn design die already?? The 5, the 5s, the SE... enough!!! How about something new or different (and no I don't mean put the Touch ID in the back)

The iPhone S8, by Sampple. What a great company. They really know how to innovate. Say what you want, but this is happening. This is what the iPhone looks like in 2017. The size compared to the Apple Watch charging puck isn't even close. Are you serious? You people are delusional, and you might as well get used to it now. It's a fingerprint scanner.

I understand that it's in the best interests of the rumor mill to keep the "mystery" and fuel arguments. But it's so obvious.

Hilarious. So now we get a Samsung phone without the flexibility of Android to even soothe the wounds...nice. Tim Cocking it up again.

I don't know why some are still clinging to "the hole on the back is an inductive charging port!"

Um, do you not understand how large the inductive coils are? That's a fingerprint scanner hole man. 100%.

Samsung couldn't integrate the FP scanner into the glass....looks like Apple is suffering the same engineering challenge.

I can't wait to hear how Apple spins this as being a feature you'd want. It even validates the S8 design.

It also gives them a great reason to sell the iPhone 9....now with integrated Touch ID!

If this design proves to be the final choice (which I really hope it isn't) it would only add further weight to the opinion that Apple abandoned its, "It just works" philosophy a while ago now.

Last year they made it more difficult for users with the removal of the Universal Jack (not to mention the associated drop in sound quality).

This year, yet again, they are more concerned with form over function to the extent that in order to deliver on their desire for a full-screen phone, they will not wait until the technology is ready to have the fingerprint sensor under the screen and instead inconvenience customers further by putting the sensor on the rear of the phone.

The only thing that keeps me with iPhone is the regular updates to iOS and the added security features that each one brings.

Google may have taken a small step in the right direction with Pixel in this area, but even then they only guarantee updates for two years from new, which is pathetic.
And yet if Apple releases a new phone that doesn't have smaller bezels everyone will absolutely crucify them. Let's face it the tech press has decided the #1 must have with phones right now is reduced bezels. That's all that matters.

So, a new version of the best iphone design yet - 5/SE - that, unlike the 5/SE could possibly use most of the real estate on the front?

I'm in.

And as far as the button on the back goes, it took me about an hour to get used to the LG layout when I first got it. I think it's ideal since the back panel buttons are approximately where your index finger is anyway. Much more natural and intuitive, although on the LG that is the power and volume. My antique G3 doesn't have touch ID. Still, the touch ID on the front is more - how did somebody phrase it here? - contorted than putting it on the back.

But it's not reduced bezels for the sake of fashion - it's phone size to screen size ratio. What matters is functionality and (size) efficiency - easy to fit in your pocket and use one handed with maximum display size.

I imagine wireless charging through a Faraday cage (solid aluminum shell) could be tricky so the little hole in the center could be for that. I'd expect the cutout for the Apple logo to be used for that though, just like car makers are using a flat logo (instead of a 3D badge) to hide the radar sensors behind it.

I'd welcome the old school shell, to me the current iPhones are terrible to hold with their slippery round edges. I'd love it if the SE phones lagged a year behind and in a smaller, more affordable package. I'd really like 3D touch on my iPhone SE, other than that it's perfect for me.
