how hot does this phone get?
with titanium body, and not a lot being mentioned about how it dissipates that heat
This is where people fall while walking… the air has titanium frame (sides) but ceramic shield over the plateau (where all the components are), where the heat will go out. So remains to see how that works out, titanium is a non-issue.

"Hate" must be the most over-used word on the entire internet. Anything other than 100% love it to bits it's amazing it's flawless I'm going to rush out and buy one right now even if it means giving up food for a week qualifies as hate for some people. It must be strange living in such a simplistic binary world.

"I prefer the iPhone 17 to the air" = hater.
"The last Taylor Swift album was better than the new one" = hater.
"F1 is boring" = hater.
"Manchester United suck" = hater.

As someone else said up-thread, why are people so invested in what other people think? Why does other people having different opinions to them matter so much? Do we all have to like the same things? Do you think that you are right and everyone else is deluded? Why do you need to post about it? In the grand scheme of things, it's just a phone. Some people like it. Some people don't. Big deal.

Leave iPhone air alone

Reminder: the "no one asked for a thin iPhone!" haters haven't seen one in the flesh yet. Haven't touched one. It's the usual reflexive garbage that happens here, with people who just want to stir things up. Buy what you want. It's your money, and the best thing you can do with your money is to spend it in a way that makes you happy. If someone else gets upset with you, a stranger on the internet, on which device you buy or don't buy, then something is wrong with them.

My biggest concern with the Air would be the mono speaker. Paying that price for a phone with a mono speaker these days is just a big no for me.

All the other sacrifices I could actually live with.

Just curious, how much stereo separation are we going to get from two iPhone speakers when they're like 2 inches apart?

Honest question, because I don't think having two speakers that close to each other vs one speaker would make any difference.

Or....it's none of the above and Apple is answering the call of "they lost their ability to innovate" accusations from tech bloggers. Mkbhd has been saying for the last few years that the newer phones aren't all that new. So in a sense, he did ask for this.

There isn’t anything innovative about the Air. The Samsung Edge predates it. I’m neither a Samsung nor Android fan and have used iPhones exclusively since 2007, just being honest.

The Air takes over the model spot of the Plus. It has a similar larger screen than the regular iPhone but slower processor, and less capable camera than the Pro. It’s a rebranded, reconfigured Plus.

But also the thinness of the Air is required for Apple’s foldable phone. Watch next year. The foldable iPhone will be the Air’s screen x2 (side-by-side) on an extended, hinged back. Th e Air and foldable will share same processor/cores and camera. Launching the Air this year gives Apple some real life data to ensure the foldable doesn’t have a “-gate” event.

It's more like 5 to 6 inches apart on non Air models (top and bottom). And yes it does make a difference. Also, when playing games and watching videos, I don't want to go back to the days of adjusting my grip to prevent my hand from blocking the sound.

I'm not sure it provides any useful data for a foldable really. Air is a marvel of packaging but it's not fundamentally different from other slab phones. They've already learned a lot from previous slim devices (e.g. 6 -> 6s prompting the use of tougher alloys)

The big challenges with foldables are display durability (plastic OLED) and the mechanical hinge 🙏

The amount of hateful comments for the air is insane right now. 'No one asked for a thinner phone' type of comments - even from people like mkbhd is crazy.

Firstly I asked for a thinner phone for years - I said I wish there was an air model for the iphone. Other manufacturers have been making thin phones and people have been buying them - so that indicates a lot of people want a device like this.

And it's even more stupid to make such a statement about the air when Apple have several products, and have had for years, with the air title - where thinness is the main selling point. These products have been selling well for years and continue to sell well. E.g. The Macbook Air is very popular and sells incredibly well.

These haters also forget from around 2010, part of Apple's huge rise in appeal was making powerful, thin and ultra stylish devices.

For people that hate the air, do they know there's another three models available?

-

Yes I know I’m going to get questioned/hate because I am ‘upgrading’ from my pro my model to a black 512gb air model. But it’s what I wanted for a while. I have other thin devices which are amazing and convenient to use whilst travelling for work/personal use. I can add iPhone air to this.
What matters is if you are happy with your purchase.

Personally never been a fan of super thin phones and this goes all the way back to the RAZR V3, I remember getting a Nokia 3510i around then.
I personally went for a 17 Pro Max, always been happy with the Max phones due to their battery life, largest screens in the range and Camera setup.

I am keen to see if Apple will recapture the RAZR V3 type hype and sales in the modern era of phones with the Air, I do believe there are plenty of people who want a super thin smartphone especially if it can deliver decent battery life.

I am glad the Air got the A19 Pro and 12GB RAM, I think this will increase its appeal to a lot of folks who want Pro features in something more svelte, simple and elegant in design.

Let us see how sales go for Apple, this could be the beginning of a very interesting range for them. Wouldn’t focus too much on the haters, they will always be there.

Personally understand why it's not for everyone, don't understand the level of reaction.

Have a fold 7 - for those who've seen/held one, it's significantly thinner than the fold 6 and it is brilliant to hold as a result.

Samsung had to up production it's done so well. The 6 was widely panned.

So don't underestimate the change once prior can hold it..
Kind of wonder if the air will sell better once display models are out and people can hold and feel.

Good to know, thanks. With some iPhone models, the top speaker is only used for calls (not games or videos), so for people with those phones a single speaker would make no difference.

That hasn't been the case since iPhone 6s (2015). So while it's true for some people, it's an extremely small group.

MKBHD expects Air would not sell well, he is professional, why we would against his prediction? You buy whatever you want, just Air very likely would not sell well, and you still can go to Apple site to pre order now after open for days, just not that many people want it and a lot of storage.
