so it's either on Memphis or Raleigh?

If I had to say my money will be on Raleigh! Memphis hub is crazy but mostly all sorted by machines (only human contact is unloading the cans an reloading) there are security cameras everywhere as well as metal detectors. No bags or purses or anythng is allowed past a certain point thees "eyes" everywhere BUT who's to say someone got something thru...

Again Raleigh is much much smaller and probably no where the same security
as Memphis!!!

That's my opinion!

Also if I was running things here is what I'd do/say...sorry to hear what happen.. Got a replacement order put in and you'll get it tomorrow and again I'm sorry! I know that's in a perfect world!

BUT think positive...

you guys got me all worried i got mine delivered to the wilson nc store as this is the closest one to me(nashville area) i hope that mine isnt in the same boat bc i am supposed to port 2 numbers tomorrow and OMG that would suck a$$

i hope all works out well and quick with the two of you

Well, if I have to say for myself-- it *seems* like Raleigh was skeptical. I had someone call me back directly from Raleigh and state that she was going to get FedEx security engaged (whereas the customer advocate seemed to get offended when I said I didn't believe that this box was mangled by a machine).

Tacky--

The CSA you takes to is at call center in Arizona where the CSA that called you back is out of raleigh. Packages could get mangled/caught on the belt, but your best chance is during transit packages shift in the can so a bigger heavier box could crush it.

If FedEx showed up with a mangeled box and its contents missing, I would refuse the shipment and immediately call FedEx and Apple. It would cause a delay in shipping, but they can't deny my claim.

If you sign for it, you are accepting it. I am sure FedEx and/or Apple will help ya with this, but its going to be more difficult.

If anyone was curious... Here's how my box came... Opened completely wrong for someone with any sense or time to do so...

Oh yeah, I know what everyone's thinking... These pictures sure would have been better with the iPhone 4's 5 megapixel camera... Sorry, my old 3G is going to have to do for now...

My box wasn't mangled... I didn't even notice the slightly opened part until I had already signed for it. There was a sticker over the opened part.

And when my package was handed to me, the signing pad was on top of it, so I was holding both... Which is also why I didn't notice how light it was until I handed the FedEx guy his signing pad back.

I was excited to get my package finally... I wasn't in "detective" mode when it was handed to me.

Best thead ever.

Look at your situation in a positive note. The iPhone will be old hat in a year yet this experience will always be a laugh.

Probably stolen in no particular order:

1. Newark
2. Memphis
3. Raleigh

I hope who ever did this gets caught, looses their job and gets jail time.

FedEX WHQ is in Memphis. Remember the movie Castaway? I have a few friends that work around the sorters and planes...They have heavy, heavy security at the airport hub and sorting facility.

Regardless, I hope they make it right for you. That just sucks! Anyone have Fred Smith's email? Please send him this thread.

Just wanna say to the two users who had their phones stolen, that is really sucky and I am sure someone's going to say "it's just a phone" but it's terrible either way. I hope you both get new phones REAL soon. good luck to you both

Well, I just got off of the phone with Apple.

They are not going to make me wait for all of their investigations-- they will work on that with the carrier.

Unfortunately, sending out a new iPhone is not so easy. They have a lot of paperwork to do to make sure that ATT doesnt think I have two contracts, and some other stuff that quite frankly I didn't really get because at the end of the day the nice manager can't tell me when I will have a new iPhone because it is not just some product he can just have them ship out.

So... there we have it. I am pretty upset really there is no other way to describe it.

I know you are upset and anxious but this is for the best. Having to spend time and energy dealing with AT&T to sort this out if it did become a problem afterwards would probably not be worth having to wait a couple/few days or whatever to get it.

I know you are anxious, but really this is for the best.

I tend to agree with you.

I suggested the same. In fact, the manager at first said what is that you want me to do for you.

I flat out told him call up my nearest Apple Store and have them hold one for me that I can pick up tonight. He then asked me the question, "you would want us to take a phone from another person to make you whole?"

I basically tsked at that and said-- "Nope. Asking no such thing. I would not want a phone taken from someone else who has reserved one. IN FACT, (and I believe he could have checked this) I called to have my name removed from the reserve list since I was FINALLY able to purchase one on pre-order night."

Yeah but knowing that all phones are spoken for at this point that is what you essentially asked for, you wanted your problem pushed onto someone else. Whether you see it that way or not. It is not like they have extra phones sitting around waiting for you.

I just found an iPhone 4 with a missing UPS shipping box. It was the UPS shipping box that I wanted so I threw the garbage iPhone away. What a quinkidinke.

Great Documentation

At this point, FedEx and Apple should work it amongst themselves. Call up my local Apple Store and have one held for me to go pick up tonight.

That would be the fair thing to do. And you were brilliant for photographing the box and employee's badge.

I returned an unopened box to Apple (5th Ave) once. The cashier took the item behind closed doors, then returned claiming I'd opened the box!! Since then, and with what happened to you, I started documenting returned items and arriving packages of substantial value.

That said, I wish I hadn't stumbled upon this thread because now I'm super nervous about getting mine tomorrow afternoon :(
