There is something that doesn't click with the concept of a folding iphone. Iphones have historically been simple and streamlined, and the idea of a folding device is kind of contradicting this. Add the outrageous price, and I join the "this will be a fail" crowd.

It's a way of getting a bigger screen while still fitting comfortably in a pocket.

Am I going to buy an iPhone that is the size of a passport and costs more than a new iPhone 17 Pro plus a new iPad mini with an Apple Pencil combined?
Err, nope.

While it’s admittedly a neat but now an old idea, it’s very poor value and a great example of Apple simply thinking they can get you to buy anything for any cost from them. If they dazzle you enough they think you’ll forget basic addition.

Initially I wasn't into foldables and I thought the asymmetric shape was a bit weird with more on the ugly side, but it looks good enough to try.

I do have to say: there's a lot of minor glitches that I see in the hand-on videos.
it doesn't bother me too much but you're definitely a bit of a Beta Tester/Early Adopter of a new product.

I would have considered it if it had Face ID. So it's a no for me. I’m happy with my iPhone Air anyway.

Probably not since the phone is not a social instrument for myself. But, to a person who remembers rotary phones, it is a very impressive piece of tech.

No FaceID is a deal breaker for me. With order the 18 ProMax 1Tb

No sweat when you have Apple Watch it will unlock just like MacBook Air/Pro. No need for FaceID unless App Store will require TouchID for app verification and app downloads. I don't think FaceID is a big deal.

It’s a no for me. I am not convinced that it would be durable enough for me as I’m kind of rough on phones. I’m also not convinced that I could get past the crease. They can say it’s minimized all they want, but I remain skeptical. Every time I’ve either looked at a foldable in a store, or borrowed from someone I know who has one, the crease immediately draws my eye and I just can’t unsee it.

I know those are “me” problems, and I am just not the target audience for one of these. I am happy for all the people who will get it and enjoy finally having an Apple foldable. Goodness knows those folks have waited long enough.

2nd gen for me. 2nd gen Apple products tend to fix all the issues.

I agree. See how the durability holds up. Plus, next year there will be far more adoption in terms of app support. Who knows, maybe next year they will add Face ID or Lidar.

The only thing missing from both the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo is satellite data access which I really want.

I am in, basically something the size of the older iPad Mini in the volume and weight of the Pro Max. I think it looks like an amazing piece of kit and will order it as soon as it opens up.

I’m having a hard time getting past the front screen. One side of the screen has two square corners and the other has round corners. It makes the display look off. Regardless, I’ll probably bite and get one.

Personally I have the iPad Pro M4 11" and that thing is epic for me to bring around. I got it around 1390AUD [with inclusive apple pencil] when education savings was possible. I love it, big screen and relatively portable.

I have the iPhone 16 Pro Max and the iPhone 18 Pro Max is much more of a bigger upgrade [the 16 Pro Max got really warm]. Passing the 16 Pro Max to my mom who will find it overkill but I much rather give it to her than to trade it in and she'll get years of use as this is her first iPhone. Just deciding 256GB or 512GB. I've not yet maxed 256GB fwiw as I don't load everything onto my phone immediately [I have backup options to MacBook Pro] but can't imagine 2x storage at 400AUD extra.

That said this foldable design has a better implementation than Samsung's which is cheap and i still hated that.

Would love to trial this phone during the christmas period.

As foldable phones go, I think it's a thoughtful design, and very pleasant looking. I certainly look forward to trying it out at a store.

But my iPhone 15 Pro Max is large enough for my needs while on the go, and I use an iPad when at home. I just don't have a need for a foldable phone.

A device that you can quickly make the screen bigger? Its an awesome idea. Obviously its thicker and costs more - more screens, larger etc.

Was not referring it to be a failure but instead as everything in life gets boring and old until something new comes along. It is human nature!
