That would make too much sense....

Seriously, just for the peace of mind for users of the product, just come out and say, we're releasing the update on Friday, Sept 28th, sometime late in the afternoon. Period. Done. People can stop crashing their servers from checking for updates every 5 mintues.

Maybe they simply dont know? You have no idea the status of the release. What bugs or features they may be working on. It could be many things. Like stated above, if they released a date, and then had to backpeddle the PR would be much worse than had they just saying nothing or said its coming "later".

Remember, only people here and a few other sites are even aware a update is even coming, a good majority of the iphone userbase is simply unaware of the pending update and are out ENJOYING their phone and not stressing day after day for a end-all feature update.

I'm not sure how slow you type, but i usually spend about ten minutes on this forum. I doubt people are here all day. I think making personal attacks on people's lovelives are uncalled for. It doesn't make you better because you're apathetic towards a product. It just makes you sound like a miserable, pathetic moron.

Thanks for the stand-up, brother. I was going to mention that to our friend Nick, that most of us can do several things at once. I'm a niche freelance writer, so not only typing fast, but composing and writing fast are often required.

As for my wife, she often works a good 12 hours a day, and may be on-call or taking someone's call, because they had something come up, the remainds of the day. We spend as much time together as possible, between our work, three kids, etc. These forums detract not a bit from our time and it's just outlandishly presumptuous and offensive for you to state otherwise. I would hope musicians would strive to be of a more humane stance, as we who greatly enjoy music are often quite tolerant of your street-drug overdoses... Uh, I mean "quirks".

I agree with nick.

That doesn't mean I'm not guilty of spending a rediculous amount of time on this forum, but just the same, i agree.

Hell, I don't even have an iPhone and I'm waiting for this update (in part beacuse it will be the deciding factor for me, whether to buy an iPhone and activate for use as an iPod or not).

Still, there are so many better uses of time then debating (and rehashing the same old points over and over again) a double point release.

Maybe I was a little harsh and I apologize if I was, but certainly not as harsh as you are in your response to me. So to clarify a few things....

Chances are you're one of the millions of anti-iPhone ninnies that attempt to elevate yourself by demeaning everyone else for being concerned for their investment. People here aren't complaining because it's the thing to do or we have nothing else better to do. I can say as an iPhone owner i'm disappointed with Apple currently for making us wait so long for the wifi music store. iPod touch owners have been on it and the firmware is obviously there.

iPhone owners have been on a rollercoaster for the past three months. We've weathered price cuts, rumors of 3G phones and the like and we've stood by our product instead of simply selling it or returning it. We're owed this update and it's become such a sought after update we're more concerned than normal about it. The fact that no rumors or anything are coming out about it is adding fuel to the fire. Is it pathetic?

I think you should step back and wonder what's more pathetic, trolling on a message board or waiting for a vital update? Hmmm.

Actually, I was 30th in line on day one and have been happy with my iPhone ever since. The price cut didn't upset me because I paid what I thought it was worth at the time and of course I am excited about any update that may come down, but again, I don't "troll" the boards with false rumors and then get disappointed after spending hours pushing "check for updates" in itunes (which many here have admitted to, hence my initial response) only to come on here to whine about how Apple is being unfair!

And such a sought after update? When it was vaguely announced as being only a WiFi Music store update with the possibility of a home button feature and international keyboard, all you pathetic people did was start demanding the same old *** of "I want my iChat and my MMS and my GPS" and so on. You should have realized what you bought, be happy with it and enjoy life!

I for one am happy with my iPhone.

This is my first post on this thread, but I have been checking in for over a week now. I think there really are two kinds of users when it comes to an IPhone. I am not going to proclaim any percentages because I think it depends on your location and your group of friends / people you associate with. For instance, there are lots of people who literally just went out and bought the phone because it was something different. Not because they are Mac supporters, or technically inclined. These kind of people rarely even connect the phone to their computer for music, much less an update. Then you have people, like on this board, who are incessantly waiting and checking for the update. These people are most likely the ones who embrace new technology on a regular basis. I don't think we can say that the majority of iphone users are tech savvy, but instead that the majority of your friends that have iphones are tech savvy. I think globally it is more even than you think.

i agree with everything you said, i think it is about even too i was just replying to someone that said a majority of people with iphones dont even check for updates and stuff, i dont think its a majority i think its close to half like you said

I'm sorry isn't this were losers go to find out about updates.

I just found out on Macworld.com that Steve Jobs announced the new iPhone 16GB 3G that fits directly in your A$$. And, when you want to download a song from WiFi Store, you simply squeeze your cheeks. Bam ---

Im sorry if you were paying attention at all to this "loser thread" that you are on and contributed a stupid comment about a 3g iphone to, you would see that i was replying to someone talking about some windows vista thing on an iphone thread

The reason I want a release is actually saving time. The way it's now I check about two times a day. With a release date I would check on this date once and if it's delayed, I would check on that release date.
So no whining from me if they don't make it. I don't care when it comes out, but if it's out I want it asap.

I agree with you on the ridiculousness of some people's rants about what they want in an iPhone/update; I also was 30th in line for my iPhone, got the last one, and have been thankful every minute thereafter, for the iPhone makes my life a lot easier.

Though, I am not sitting here, waiting endlessly for an update, so I can find out if I'm gonna have GPS or chat or not. I'm trying to wait as patiently as I can to see if there will be a fix for my "to-the-point-of-intolerable" volume issues. Yes, I've read all the forum posts on the subject; no, I didn't leave my plastic wrapping on; and no, I don't want to immediately have it shipped off for weeks.

I'm happy with my iPhone. I think it's fabulous. But I need it to work completely, which at this given moment, it does not.

So I'll continue to sit here and watch, learn, and leave this running in the background as I work at my full-time job.

Correlation does not prove anything, but I just did a quick search on google to see when the news hit about iPhone Update 1.0.1 and 1.0.2. Both of those updates were reported very late in the day, around or after 4pm eastern. So IF the update it today, I think it will occur later rather than sooner.

Also, I would think Apple would wait on the release to see if the iPod touch has any bugs with accessing the WiFi Music Store. That would seem logical.

Maybe I was a little harsh and I apologize if I was...

Thanks. I always think an insult rethought with an apology is at least as good as no insult in the first place, if not better -- unusual logic perhaps, but it's as I think.

I for one am happy with my iPhone.

Just to clarify, speaking for myself alone: The WiFI Music Store is all I expect (I wouldn't say I'm "owed" it) as that's all that's been promised. I know there were some other, unmentioned bits, like TV-out, that people noticed from the London announcement; these may be in this update or not, but all I'm aiming for is the WiFi Store Music Store.

I, too, am happy with my iPhone as it stands. I merely am looking forward to the WiFi Music Store -- although I seem to be in the minority here on that one -- and I am a wee bit frustrated waiting on it. I'm not angry with Apple it's not here, as I know these things sometimes are delayed, or for marketing reasons are schedule for dates later than I'd like. But, c'est la vie.

You believe the majority of iPhone users are not savy, frequenty internet and Mac users? You thereby believe that most savy mac users don't check for news, uprades, and improvements for their products often? This is truly a fan boy product and thats the majority of who owns and uses it.

As I recall from some people's anecdotes, people who claimed they caught the updates immediately as they were available, they showed up right at 8PM or a few minutes after, Eastern Time; right around 5PM, or end of business, Pacific Time. So you're right, and it was apparently even later than 4PM Eastern.

I wouldnt say a majority but i know about 5 people on campus (the only ones i know of with an iphone) and when i mentioned to them about like the 1.02 updates and the itunes 7.4.1 where you can put ringtones on your iphone and recently i mentioned the new 1.1.1 update coming they were like, "ummm....what?" and i know for sure my sister has no idea an update is coming or what it entails until itunes says "a new version is here you wanna update?"

hey does anyone know when SP1 for Vista Ultimate is coming out. I keep refreshing windows updates and it tells me i'm all up to date. Darn!!!! keep me posted!!!!!!!!!

I've been lurking this thread for a while. I've come to realize that it will not be coming anytime soon so I've just given up hope...

I for one don't believe Steve Jobs when he says "later this month," nor do I believe anyone on a rumor site forum page when they say they heard that their father's brother's uncle's, nephew's, cousin's, former roomate from college knows this guy who works for Apple and it's going to be out on the (insert whatever date you like here). "Reliable" sources have told you that it would be out 2 weeks ago...it wasn't out on the 11th. Nor was it out Friday the 14th, nor was it out any other day they told you up to this point. What makes you believe they are right all of a sudden? Why should we believe any of it? Steve Jobs said that Mac OS X Service Pack 5 should be out 10 months ago! Where is it now? Things get delayed...I'm going to laugh so hard if I get home tonight, check for updates, and it installs 1.0.3...I can only imagine what this thread will be like if you all don't get your blasted 1.1.1; eventhough not a single one of you KNOWS what's in it!!! It's all mere speculation! (and poor speculation at that!)

Excited not Entitled

I have been monitoring this forum also because I'm excited about the update. What bothers me, though, is this sense of entitlement some of the users on this forum seem to have. As if Steve Job owes you something. Come on- y'all knew what features the phone had when you purchased it. Get some perspective and think about the people in the world who can't afford to eat let alone purchase a cell phone. Yes it will be nice to have, and yes I'm looking forward to it, but I don't think it's owed to me, even with Job's announcement that it was coming out.

I highly disagree with you statements. Out of the 15 or so people I know I would oly classify 2 as your stereotypical Apple "fanboys". The rest were just looking for a great phone. Most are even using Windows to sync.

Selling a million units in a few months is well past the fan boy gadget range.

Apple just loaded some up...

Apple just posted updates to all iLife 08 apps. Hopefully one more in the barrel. ;)

Jobs said later this month, on Monday Apple reiterated, well into release candidate stage, possible certified gold stage, later this week. We'll get it by Friday, last business day of this month. If not, they would have announced the delay already. They announced the Leopard delays at least a month in advance, I think more.

Teranoid: see above. By Friday.

I'm starting to hope this update doesn't come out until the last minute. I'm really starting to enjoy reading the posts on this thread. It's hilarious reading all of the bickering etc... I'm starting to get a better understanding as to why Apple never gives a release date for these updates. This is too much fun. ....:D

Ha! The frustration of waiting is starting to become an entertainment all it's own. You're right. Really, I wish it would come out today, because I'm more looking forward to the "it doesn't have the Mars rover remote control software we are owed by Apple" posts.

Oh no. Typing this from my iPhone because I think Apple got confused. I just installed the iLife 08 updates. My iLife is registered but I unlocked my MacBook so I can use it in Milan and the iMovie update bricked it! Help!
