iPhone was cool till the end of 2010

Since the beginning of 2011, it has still be a very good phone but the "coolness factor" that it had has be diminishing.

iPhone(s) are so prevalent now, kids seem to have android device and an iPod touch to be cool now instead of only an iPhone~circa 2010.

funny thing is i know way more adults with android phones and usually they are the cheaper ones that verizon and at&t give away for $50 bucks with a contract

Personally, for me, the iPhone is a tool for business use. and you know what, without using it for everything else. in this regard it is still cool. it does everything I want quickly and efficiently with no fuss, now that's cool. I've tried droid, and at the moment I'm unimpressed with regards to the UI, feels clunky and convoluted to me, i felt like i had to take two or three steps to do one thing, and god forbid finding anything easily, which at present makes it uncool. don't get me wrong I'm not hating the product, it's different, but too different to my liking. apple have spoilt me with their clean, solid OS.

FWIW. Among my coworkers at a fortune 500 R&D corp. The <30 all have iPhones. The >40 all have Android or feature-phones.

There's oddly not many people here between 30 and 40.

I think there is some merit to this. My kids have always known iPhone. So to them, they don't "understand" the magical device it was when first introduced...they just know it works well....doesn't everything else?

The issue I have with the article, many college kids...(and my soon to be college kids) are stuck in the ecosystem. We've spent hundreds of dollars (if not thousands) on songs, movies, apps, books, ringtones, and accessories. It's hard for anyone to walk away from that investment...especially broke college kids.

It isn't considered cool because HTC's President said so?

Dude, isn't it obvious he would say something like that? Who cares what he thinks, the iPhone always comes out on top.

It shouldn't matter if the phone is cool or not. What matters is if the phone serves your needs..whether its an iphone, HTC, or an old Nokia phone. HTC makes good phones but the battery life on their phones are horrible. Maybe the CEO should focus on getting a better battery life out of his phones instead of spending time making these random statements.

Yea, honestly I've got to say that in my country, I think there's too many people getting iPhone just because it's cool and everyone's owning one. It's like a monkey-see-monkey-do situation.

The iPhone is definitely one of the best mobile phones out there. However, I do see most adults here owning an iPhone but have totally no idea how to use it, let alone fully utilize it. I guess they paid a real good deal of money just to be 'cool like the rest'.

I think this guy is looking at the world through Android coloured glasses, because I see iPhones more than I see any other single model of phone, spanning all ages. Check out an Apple store, and the demographics runs the spectrum, as do the line ups on any given product launch day.

I suppose if I was getting sued into the stone ages, I'd say whatever I can about how my adversary is a has-been, to anyone that would listen, as well.

In the end, sales don't lie, and device on device, no one beats Apple.

What a good sample population he has there for his hypothesis.

Well here in Melbourne, Australia, all I see is just iPhones and iPod touches in the trains/buses/trams. I have noticed a surge of Androids (since the start of the year) though in all age groups, ranging from school kids up to over 30s.

I go to uni, and most of my mates have iPhones, with a select few with the SGS2 and htc phones. There was a definite 'coolness' factor when the iPhone 3G launched here, and when the i4 launched too, when people would go 'is that an IPHONE?' or 'is that the IPHONE 4 ?'. The iPhone has become very common now, hence there is no wow factor anymore (I don't know if this is similar to a cool factor).

That being said, I dont think any of the htcs have any wow factor either, except for the humongous screens they possess, which make some people say 'WOW i like this screen!'. No 'cool' factor though.

There is an air of superiority that comes with having an iPhone and rightly so

The other week I had to use my partners xperia because I lent my iPhone 4 to my niece to go Reading festival camping and when I was on the train in the morning to work and saw loads of commuters using iPhone's I realised how inferior I felt with my partner's xperia, I sat in the train whole journey with it in my pocket because I was too embarrassed to brandish an xperia with all these iPhone's about, the people either side of my, both professional women had iPhone's

iPhones aren't cool to teens anymore? So exactly what part of me should care about a generation who think Justin Beiber and that Friday girl are talented artists, Tranceformers is a good movie, and who probably couldn't write a coherent sentence if someone paid them. Additionally, if you base your self worth on a phone you probably have more serious issues to worry about.

I hate Justin Bieber, Rebecca Black is a horrible singer, and Transformers was a terrible movie series. Don't stereotype me just because I'm fourteen, that is similar to me saying, "All adults are stuck-up business men that drink coffee and hate video games." We're not all like that. I have an iPod Touch because I want one, not because it's "Cool", because I want it, and that's what a lot of people my age are like. Please don't put me in with "That" group of people just because of my age.

Black is the new black.

Not cool is the new cool.

Get with the times, HTC.

AH man! Now i'm gonna have to sell my iPhone 4. If the president of HTC says it's not cool anymore, then what reason do we have to keep our un-cool iPhones? Let's but an HTC phone that looks just like all other HTC phones and can barely be kept track of because of how many models are out there.

People who buy a phone because it is cool are by definition un-cool. But then so are executives of companies who promote their products by claiming the competition has lost its cool.

What a TOOL he is for even saying that. And people to this day STILL sometimes say "Oh, you have an iphone, how do you like it"

The iphone is DEF still cool, and he's gonna see how cool it is in a month.

And to all you nerds saying "i bought it for function, not cuz its cool, blah blah" Just stop. Stop trying to act like you don't think the phone is cool. It IS cool and so are the features. Just because you put big words like aesthetics down instead of COOL doesnt change the fact that it IS a cool phone. Way too many fanboys on here get their panties in a twist over nothing. Kids in highschool do buy things because of popularity. That's the nature of the age. So let's all rip kids apart over that? Why don't we rip apart toddlers for not wanting to share?

Everyone competing against the iphone will bash it one way or another. It's funny because they all COPY the phone and just out do it on paper. Bigger screen, Higher mp camera, more more more. Sometimes it's not about more. They don't get that.

I don't care if my iPhone is cool or not. In fact, coolness is usually inversely proportionate to function, even for Apple. So, I'll take my "uncool" device.

I love how the OP got voted down for bringing up the topic of the iphone not being cool anymore. Followed by a bunch of people who claim it ain't about being cool.:D

Following a trend is so uncool. That's why I still have flip phone.;)
