I buy things that I want because "I" want/like/need them. Not because someone says its cool.

Just to be pedantic and abstract -- You don't need someone telling you that X is "cool". You can be inclined to want/like X not because you need it, but for other reasons (so many no one can think about. Otherwise, companies would never fail on a product) -- its "coolness". Saying you *need* an iPhone sounds quite absurd to me. Saying you want it because it's enjoyable makes more sense.
Then again, there are always alternatives. But fanboys are everywhere, mostly teens and users wanting to ensure their self worth by defending a Company producing their X.

(Obviously, no reference to you, iceterminal)

Spoken like a true fan boy. Cool much?

It's obvious that the iPhone has the most appeal. Apple places extreme emphasis on the user experience and design, which other companies do, but not as good as Apple. I feel Samsung is in second place in this regard.

can any high schoolers/college students/grade schoolers comment on this?

are you seeing more non-iPhones out there amongst your peers and colleagues?

At Colorado State a lot of kids have iPhones and a lot don't. Its a mixed bag. I see professors, grad students, and undergrads with them. Nothings changed. College kids have the phone that their mom and dad pays for. Circle of life and all that. The president of HTC sounds like a huge tool too. What's cool to me would be being the rich daughter of the president of HTC. I'd be such a slut.

LOL. you made my day.

iPhones aren't cool to teens anymore? So exactly what part of me should care about a generation who think Justin Beiber and that Friday girl are talented artists, Tranceformers is a good movie, and who probably couldn't write a coherent sentence if someone paid them. Additionally, if you base your self worth on a phone you probably have more serious issues to worry about.

You do realize that your parents were saying the same thing about you, the music you listened to and movies you watched right? Dont lose faith just yet..

well every tom dick and harry does seem to have one...the rarity of them has gone...dont see many white ones..so they are still COOL..lol...still the best cool phones yet to come...iphone5,nexus prime, and sammys quad cores in the new year...

Does it matter? If one needs to own something because it's "cool" then it proves to me they are the lowest common denominator.

It matters a lot to the Apple demographic that is vain.

All one has to do to confirm that is to read all the threads in this forum & others that brag about how they attract girls, how some use them to show of with etc.

How it's not about specs or performance cause that's how Steve has programmed the masses.

Its simple really & all too obvious.

I'm a College (High school for the US) Student in the UK and the iPhone isn't seen as uncool just expensive, everyone says to me you have the best phone so don't complain, I always complain about signal there (carrier issues I say, which is true). All my peers say they would have an iPhone if it wasn't so expensive, or they don't like Touch Screens. So there all on Blackberrys which are way too popular in the UK and Cheap Androids. So to answer it's not that there not uncool just not targeted at our market, I just have a well paid part time job and i save up. So I can afford these Apple Perks :apple: unlike some of my friends.

PS I buy the phones for build quality so a plastic phone is a no no for me, I'm fussy with materials.

Does it really matter if the iPhone is cool? I like it because, like every other Apple product I've used, it just works. I try to disguise the fact that I have an iPhone by wrapping it in a case that doesn't show the apple logo on the back. I'm sure those that know the different models can see that it's an iPhone, but it's not obvious.

Even in the US, the iPhone is a bit more expensive than Android or Blackberry phones (some of which you can get for free if you agree to a 2 year contract) and the iPhone is considered an expensive phone. I read a post here that pointed out the following: In the US, we pay roughly $600 (or more) each year for a phone, text messaging, and data plan. If you agree to a standard 2 year contract, then you're spending $1,200. What's another $200 on top of that to get a very good phone that will easily last you two years (assuming you're not dropping it all the time).

I treat my phones well, and none my previous models have lasted 2 years without being near death by the time I could upgrade (usually battery plus something else).

Here's an opinion from my (a college student) point of view:

I see a nice mix of all kinds of devices around campus. I'd say the dominating ones are the iPhone and android devices. People are getting what they want to get and I don't know why they chose what they chose. But personally I can say the reason I'm switching to an iPhone is because it suits my needs from a smartphone. I'm not choosing it because of the "coolness factor", I'm choosing it because I want it.

As a side note, what else did you expect the president of HTC to say?

I can't believe so many of you ate taking this guys comments seriously. I mean gee, you don't think he might have a vested interest in getting people to think iPhones are uncool, do you?

The iPhone is still cool. It's still THE phone to have among young people. Sure, some like other phones, but the iPhone is seen as really cool, expensive, maybe, but the best mobile phone that takes the best pics and video, has the funnest games and apps, looks the nicest, ect. The only note of unhappiness i hear on occasion is that the screen is too small, but hopefully iPhone 5 will fix that.

Seriously guys. HTC guy is saying that because he wants people to think the iPhone is uncool. Not because it actually is. :)

I see so many kids with iPhones (iP4 the most) at my high school. And sadly, a number of them don't use it to its full potential. There are obviously those with dumb phones, Androids, WP7, Blackberries etc., but the iPhone is probably second to dumb phones.

Of course the president of HTC America is going to say that
Remind me, who has the smartphone game on lock?....Exactly :apple:

Edit: I'm a senior in high school. The iPhone is definitely still a popular device from where I can tell, people still envy it(no pun intended), many people love it(for those who have it) from teachers to students. The college where I take some of my classes at has many iPhone users as well. In fact, I could honestly say that more than half of my baseball teammates have iPhones.

So no, the iPhone is still "cool"

If you are so close minded you can't/don't want to ponder what another person said, no matter who he/she is, then you should worry about yourself, in my opinion, as you are not able to think independently.

You are blatantly quoting something from the president of HTC. That is all. It's like going into a Public Forum round and quoting The Onion - It just doesn't work.

President of HTC America said the following:

Do you guys see this as well? Are you seeing more non iPhones out there than in the past, especially amongst teens?

From the president of HTC and based on a few students on a floor of a Portland college associated with his daughter, I would say this does not represent the iPhone as a whole. Sure HTC is popular, he just found the people with them and not iPhone users.

All I can say is that on my recent trip to a popular Southern California amusement park (Disneyland) that as I waited in lines and looked around, iPhones outnumbered any other phone at least 3-to-1!

I own a restaurant so I deal with a lot of different people everyday. I use my iPhone 4 with no case and I am constantly having people ask me about it. I still get "Is that the new iPhone?" all the time. People love iPhones, it is still quite popular and cool.

In about a month from now we will see just how popular the 5 is. When we see a 3-4 week turn around time for shipping 24 hours after Apple starts taking pre orders I think that will answer the question.

This also verifies my opinion that "MILLIONS" of people are also idiots.

Comment of the day right there!
