iPhone isn't considered cool anymore

I love how the OP got voted down for bringing up the topic of the iphone not being cool anymore. Followed by a bunch of people who claim it ain't about being cool.:D

Following a trend is so uncool. That's why I still have flip phone.;)
You are the coolest. :D

I see more iPhones around now than ever. It's not going by the wayside anytime soon, I don't think.

There are A LOT of cool phones out there these days. Especially when compared to a few years ago. But I don't think the iPhone has suffered much.

IPHONE is still cool. However in order to keep it that way Apple needs to add some new features to the IPHONE5. Most likely they will and all will be well

But something to keep in mind is nothing lasts forever. A perfect example would be Budweiser Beer. After being the king for so many years is now losing market share big time. Seems like all the new brands are killing it.

I'll give you the first 2, But DON'T diss the Transformers

The first transformers movie was good, but Michael Bay screw up with the second one. There is no need for there to be that many explosions in one movie. Not to mention the fact that more emphasis was put into these explosions than creating a coherent plot. I haven't seen the third one yet, but I've heard it was an improvement. Speaking of Michael Bay, it reminded me of this video: http://m.youtube.com/index?desktop_uri=/&gl=US#/watch?v=0GLrBH2arKA

(sorry if you're watching on a computer and it doesnt automatically redirect you from the mobile site. I am posting this from my iPad real quick.)

You are the coolest. :D

Thanks, but this guy is way cooler.:D

iPhone is for old people. Its dumb proof.

You might be on to something. It also "just works" (from what I hear, I don't own one). Too bad I can't say that about my POS Android. Immature software (like Lion, LOL), and crap hardware (Samsung Vibrant), to go with some of the poorest battery life I've experienced since an analog Motorola Flip about 15 years ago.

After playing with a friend's iPhone (the original, mind you) I bought one. Why? Not because I thought it would make me cool but because the phone itself is cool. It's a neat device with neat (and at the time, unique) characteristics. I continue to buy them because of the money I have tied up in the App Store and it's seamless integration with my Macbook.

How a phone can make a person cool is an idea that escapes me. It seems to be the main idea of this thread. If anything, it makes me less cool because I spend more time looking at my hands than I used to.

I remember back in '07 when I was the only one in my school who had an iPhone and everyone was in awe of it. Now it is completely different. Almost everyone I know has an iPhone, especially a 4. I don't think they're any less cool, though! Then again, who cares? I love mine, & I keep buying them because they work well for me! Different strokes for different folks, I suppose.

can any high schoolers/college students/grade schoolers comment on this?

are you seeing more non-iPhones out there amongst your peers and colleagues?

High school- there is one android phone in my class of 26 kids. Rest are iPhone 4's.

The fact of the matter is, whether HTC's comment is true or not, being "cool" is what sells. For all the people like myself and others who use the iPhone because it meets our needs, we are the minority.
So when people say "who gives a **** if its cool or not", Apple, HTC, Samsung etc. cares because it's what makes them money.

I'm a high school student. There aren't nearly as many iPhones as there was a few years ago. In fact, the only one I know personally with an iPhone 4 is my Calculus teacher. Everyone mainly has the 4" Android phones. I think because the iPhone has been out for a few years now, the name itself has lost the "wow" factor.

With kids, it's not what phone best suits them. It's what's new, what their friends have, and what makes their friends jealous.

I don't really care what's "in" or not. I'm interested in the capabilities of the device itself. That being said, I'm pretty sure I'm going to be getting a Windows Phone once Mango comes out...

I am currently loving my Mango phone, but I am still going to be switching to the iPhone. Why? The ecosystem. Between my iPad and iPod touch, I have plenty of apps that I could use on the iPhone. As of the current point in time, Windows Phone does not have enough app support. Maybe when developers jump on board I'll make the switch back. But for now I think I will be picking up an iPhone.

I agree, they aren't seen as the "cool" phone now.... they are seen as the standard. Just like the iPod became the name for MP3 player, iPhone is becoming the name for smartphone.

it's crazy how people actually buy the iPhone because it's "cool" and because other people have it.

iPad is the IT tablet.
iPhone is the IT smartphone.
iPod is the IT mp3 player.

Apple is THE standard.

High School - majority Blackberry. Everybody has a blackberry. cause bum is "cool". The rest is iPhone + Android. And all Android users at my school say "it's like an iPhone" thats why they have it. but blackberry is king where i am.

President of HTC America said the following:

Do you guys see this as well? Are you seeing more non iPhones out there than in the past, especially amongst teens?

Why are folks thumbs downing the poor guy, he's just reporting what he's read. Let's not be rude.

I don't care what is cool and what it not. I buy for my needs and an ego trip isn't one of them.

BlackBerry is no longer cool to some, but celebrities still use them. In fact, I may go to RIM next year when they bring QNX out.

BLACKBERRY = SECURITY

Off-topic, but speaking of security, anybody hear about Scarlett Johansson's phone getting hacked into? It was an iPhone. Cool pix :D, but not cool if that happened to you. :(

Adjunct college professor with perspective from three very different campuses. Campus one is a large urban private research university. A large portion of the student population comes from upper middle class and above households iPhone's dominate, but there's still a stalwart BlackBerry contingent. Android has made some gains but still far behind.

Campus two is a large suburban state university. A good portion of the student population works. Most of the students come from middle to lower middle class households. In my classes, iPhone hold a slight edge over Android with a few BlackBerry users who remain in the mix.

Campus three is a medium sized urban community college located with a largely lower middle and working class student population. Approximately 95% of the student body are people of color (black, brown, and Pacific Islander). Lower end Android phones appear to be the predominate choice with a smattering of iPhones.

Obviously it's all observational. But the trend I see is that the type of phone you possess may very well be tied to your income (or that of your parents).

Seems like mr. Htc is revealing just how much profit apple is pulling out of the mobile phone market.

It depends what you mean by cool. The phone itself being cool vs. People buying the phone to look cool. Most people fall under the first one while the few tools fall under the latter.

Duh, blech (drool), I a old person. I really stupid, and I not remember things any more. I need be careful not to put phone in my pocket, because I wet myself so much - Depends not working.
