Tethering is going to cost a BOMB!

Also, no early upgrade it seems

At those prices, even if I didn't have to pay off 6 months of contracts they can shove it. No 8GB price cut. 32GB translates to $437 with contract.. we're getting reamed.

£15/mo for tethering? When I get the same data on my 3G dongle for £5 a month? I say again... they can shove it.

Really, O2 it wasn't *that* hard to get me to part with cash. I'm a geek. I'm naturally predisposed to spend money on the latest stuff anyway.. but at those prices?

I think I am sticking with my reliable 2G for the time being and enjoying my push notifications. Adding another $10 to data plan plus a text bundle, plus mms costs, whatever they are... think i'll save my money and buy a new macbook instead.

What happened to that sweet looking matte black back cover on the rumored mockups? The cheapie looking, I'll scratch if you look at me the wrong way, plastic back on the 3G was one of the big reasons I waited to upgrade my 2G.

Which network is that with?

I really need 32GB to house my library of junk. I'm willing to try and upgrade to go with a 2 year contract as I can't see myself using anything else other than an iPhone. My 16GB 3G is good, but... more speed for games sounds lush

Oh dear. Guess I won't be using it after all then!

I know, I'm actually gutted.

What you should do....

Listen, unless you let ATT know how you feel, it's pointless getting upset here. Get on their website, log into your account, and contact them. Let them know your disappointment and that you will look to another carrier if Apple opens it up in the USA. Unless they get flooded with comments/concerns, it falls on deaf ears. MacRumors is not going to do anything about it. But if 80% of the iPhone users logged onto ATT's website and voiced the issue, it would get attention and likely resolved. Just my opinion here.

Another lame "event" from AppleT&T. What's that, like 5 worthless Macworld and WWDCs in a row now ? Sad. Only redeeming feaure was a small upgrade on the Macbook Pros.

Mobileme Aliases

No mention of whether or not aliases from mobile me will finally be supported or not... hmm. Anyone know?

I NEED MY ALIASES!!

AT&T SUCKS!!!

I want:

-MMS NOW!
-Tethering NOW included in the data plan at the same price!
-Texts added to the data plan at no additional cost!

Do it now you worthless excuse for a network!

We make you all your money anyway AT&T, why don't you try to treat us right and maybe the millions of us will consider staying with you when other networks get the iPhone if you are lucky!
:apple:

Some trivial questions:
I have a jailbroken iphone 3G that records video with IphoneVideorecorder3G; If it can do it, why doesn't apple support it on OS3.0?? -->>

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've heard the following:

Heavy I/O on the iPhone's NAND flash memory decreases the memory's lifetime (NAND flash memory cells only allow a very limited number of read/write cycles before they die).

Converting the raw video data from the camera to a media player compatible format like mpeg in real time needs a lot of data to be buffered for processing. The 3gs probably buffers these data directly in the RAM. Since the original and 3g models have less RAM, they need to use the flash memory instead.

Thus, using IphoneVideorecorder3G or cycorder on a non-3gs will wear down your flash memory, causing your phone to die prematurely. And that's why Apple won't support video recording on pre-3gs models.

Sooooo…

No real network speed bump here in the US.
No MMS until "late summer"
No tethering in the US
US customers upgrading from an iPhone 3G will have to pay either $299 (8GB), $399 (16GB), or $499 (32GB) - per Apple fine print

Yeah…nothing to see here. I'll keep my money in my pocket.

Indeed

There is no compelling hardware revision/upgrade present for me to rush out and buy one. Im thinking of moving over to a Bold anyways.

Obviously AT&T will not sweeten the deal for current 3G owners as they dont see a bump in fees like they did with the 2G->3G. Plus they know many current 3G'ers will foolishly upgrade because Apple says it's so much better so why bother.

O2 Mms

O2 website says they won't be supporting video via MMS. Shame, that was the best part!

How did a thread about the new iPhone 3Gs become a rant about At&t?

Back to the subject. The new software rocks and the new iPhone will be a winner.
Anyone who complains, after these software and hardware improvements, needs to get a life (or a girlfriend might help)

Why? Why should iPhone users be treated differently than customers with other phones, or even other providers? If you're still on your 2 year contract, you don't get subsidized pricing on a new phone. That's the way the industry works.

Because of the amount we pay on a monthly basis! My bill for two phones is over $145 a month!

So much for the internet tethering with o2
lol what an anticlimax...

Turn By Turn Directions

TomTom with turn-by-turn directions? Am I missing something? Saw nothing about this. What about Stereo Bluetooth?

I wish apple would stop being vague about non ATT carries, WHICH carriers will support MMS and tethering and when?
Even their press release doesn't want to say, anyone know if o2 will have MMS from day 1?

This is as far as I've read so far so I don't know if anyone else has answered this yet, but the slides shown at the Keynote in reference to this matter did list 02, so I assume that 02 UK will carry these features from day one (02 was listed on both pics, for MMS and tethering).

Personally I am satisfied with the whole keynote. OS 3 in particular was what I was most interested in and there are no disappointments there (though we did know most of this beforehand). As for iPhone 3GS it's a nice bit of kit but perhaps not enough for me to justify skinting myself forking out for another PAYG model. Snow Leopard will be cool, I'm sure, but I feel that for my needs the proof will be in the pudding, as it were -how well it works on my year old MacBook and what it can do for me that Leopard doesn't. I'm not very technical, but I trust it will be cool. The improved Finder sounds useful. As for 13" MacBook Pros, I'm going to have a look soon to see what they'll cost us in the UK. My guess is that they still won't be a viable option in these 'credit crunch' times -unless of course my trusty Whitebook suddenly blows up. Then maybe I'd have to consider selling my body or something, cos I sure wouldn't dream of going back to Microsoft.

iPod Touch with OS 3.0

So, as an iPod Touch user, I can get the new OS 3.0 for $9.95, which has only the benefits of copy/paste and landscape notes?

Doesn't seem worth it... At least iPhone users have a REASON to upgrade!

About one hour ago, I spoke to two different AT&T CS reps and mentioned the 3GS. They both responded "You mean the rumors?" LOL
