I also tested OS 4. Beta 1 works well in my 3G. I JB my iPhone and enabled wallpapers/multitasking. Both options doesn't slows down my device. Sometimes when you swipe it had some moment of sluggish but hey it is a beta so here and there a little tweak and it works flowless.

I open some default applications and even then it still working fine. (MS)

This is my wishlist:

* Better notifications for SMS/Mail/missed calls and apps etc.
* Shortcuts to enable WiFI/BT (Widgets)
* A quicker way to see the calendar (ex. lockinfo)
* Tasks (ToDO)

You may have enabled multitasking on your 3G, but without any multitasking apps, you won't be running any of the services. Therefore it isn't a fair test on the speed.

Wallpapers are hardly going to slow things down. Once the wallpaper is rendered it is there.

If the iPhone's multitasking is not as functional as Android's then I can say it's a disadvantage whether I've seen it in action or not. The fact of the matter is there is more that can be done in the background on Android. You're not limited to 7 hand-picked APIs that Apple has decided are the only ones you'll need.

It is not at all clear to me that fewer limitations is always an advantage; in fact, I think a very good case could be made that such limitations can be advantageous and can improve the functionality of the phone. The operating systems have different philosophies and different ways of implementing those philosophies; neither is right for all people, and one cannot be said to be wrong. The problem is that you assume that what you value (an open platform and infinite customization) is necessarily most important.

True that, i only told this because i heard rumors that if enabled then you're device become slow and sluggish. Because the icons have shadows and stuff it has to be rendered etc. Didn't noticed any...

Ohh I was only expecting one reply some great information here.

Why would beta 1 be good and then the proceeding one be unstable? I hope we see another beta tomorrow with new features.

Why does the volume switch have to be external? Like the old Nokia's it could have appeared as an option when you press the sleep button like, silent, loud, vibrate or switch phone off. That button could then become the screen rotation locker.

Is GameCentre an App like stocks?

Why is that a good thing? That is something that can and will make corporate customers not want to use Android, or lock it down so that the user cannot install custom apps.

Bingo! We've blocked ActiveSync for ALL users by default, and only provision individual devices on a 1-by-1 basis, SOLELY because of Android's piss-poor support (and often outright undermining) of Exchange security policies.

New iPhone, WinMo and WebOS users are annoyed, and Android users are downright pissed, but Android ruined the party for everybody. Luckily Exchange 2010 supports device-type provisioning, so well-behaved handsets (like iPhones) can get a blanket approval--anybody can set up ActiveSync--once we upgrade. Then Android's failings will affect only itself.

Overall, I like OS4 a lot. Beta 1, obviously, was significantly better than Beta 2 though. I think the only major thing Apple really has left to do to fully and completely develop the iPhone OS is to revamp the notification system/lock screen.

Obviously I'd also like some little changes: ie. custom SMS tones, or at least a few more than the stock ones, but of the major things Apple still needs to do, I think notifications is it.

Does apple provide us the Beta 3 today/tomorrow ? What do you think.
It is almost 2 weeks ago when Beta 2 arrived.
Can't wait :D

I hope so! I'm still on beta 1 and I'm afraid it's going to expire any day ... I'd hate to have to go back to 3.1.3 + jailbreak ...

Just set back the clock on the iPhone AND computer. Then you are worry free.

Ha ha, everyone that is unhappy with the update: Be my guest and bail on AT&T and the iPhone. That'll just make it that much better for the rest of us network wise, and better availability wise when it comes out. :D
