I don't think Multiple user accounts would be that good on an iPhone, although if it can somehow have it so each user can have their own apps installed... I guess that could be good.

I was talkin about the iPad, I quoted someone else on this on page 1 or 2

I have been thinking the same thing since they introduced the iPad and confirmed it would run iPhone OS. The OS is for 3 platforms now and should be called something else... not sure about iOS but it would be fitting I suppose... most likely, they will just keep calling it iPhone OS though to avoid confusing their largest user base (iPhone users).

I'm sure Apple couldn't use "iOS" without drawing fire from IBM and/or Cisco.

Cisco uses IOS as the operating system for their networking devices and IBM has i5/OS (which is commonly called i/OS) which is OS/400 running on their iSeries servers.

Wow, I think this is the earliest Apple has announced an event before the actual date. Usually we have to wait a few weeks. I guess they didn't want to upstage the iPad release.

What do you guys think the likelihood iPhone OS 4 running on original iPhones and touches is? Pretty much nonexistent, right? Especially if multitasking is included. Looks like it will be time to upgrade this year...

I am so excited for this! I vote they will rename the OS to Mobile OSX (Even tho it's nowhere near the tenth version of the software it still draws similarities to OSX. I would like better notifications, springboard customization, a way to organize apps (ex. games folder), the ability to hide default apps (ex stocks, compass, other apps that some users don't use, like Nike+)... I don't care about multitasking but some (lol) would like that... Make those android users Jealous!

Depends on the phone. Some features trickle down but the new stuff is with the newest phone.

Oh god :S

I've got an iPhone 3G S coming tomorrow from an upgrade.

Think I should hold out until at least this Thursday or June at the most?

Let me know of your suggestions guys.

Maybe they will completely unlock tethering in this version so no matter what AT&T does it will tether. ;):D

Yes

I'm real glad a didn't buy the 1st ipad but it looks awesome, this event I hope it announces a new ipad but I doubt it. I'm surprised on how low profile apple kept this event. There better be multitasking in the new OS.

everyone cross your fingers for a CDMA compatible iphone w/video conferencing (via Ichat) :D

Wow, this is totally unexpected this soon. But in a good way.

Time to raise the bar again.

I am so excited, my iphone is boring me and the future of the ipad coming to my house is all based off this!!!!

No more beta firmwares for me. Damn buggy, all the way up to the last one.

Unfortunately, from the way it sounds... "sneak peek" sounds like we're not going to have the real deal until the next-gen iPhone comes out in, say, June.

Considering the 3GS was such a modest "upgrade," I think this year Apple will really step it up. Not to mention Steve said it will be an A+ update. So yes, I'd wait.

They are not gonig to announce a new iPad. Come on now.

I think we all recall when Apple took "iPhone" and Cisco took issue. Yeah, "iOS" will be a smack in the back of Cisco's head again.

If 4.0 has multitasking and comes to the iPad, what will the iPad haters have to whine about?

Remember how everybody expected the iPad to start at $800 (and possibly $999)? The whiners complained that was too high a price! It need to be sub-$600, or maybe sub-$500 to have any chance in the marketplace!

iPad came out at $499. Whiners immediately switched their argument. Now it was $499 that was too expensive, and the price had to be dropped to netbook levels to have any chance in the marketplace!

For the whiners, some of them anyway, it's not about facts on the ground. It's about picking a side and sticking to it no matter what. So Apple could add multitasking and Flash and every single thing asked for to-date, and what would happen the very next day?

Right, the whiners would flood this site with some other complaint.

Hopefully they speed it up again. 3.0 is pretty slow on the iPhone 3G.

When are we going to see 3.2 then?

Wow! I was resigned to waiting until June/July for a preview, August to ship!

The iPad and iPhone are about to get that much better. (And I don’t even care about removing the limitations of current multitasking—EXCEPT I’d like a streaming audio background services of some kind for Pandora and for Skype calls. So audio in AND out in the background.)

Let’s hope for leaks of dev builds with clues to future hardware :)

I agree. 3.x has been great feature-wise, but it really pushes the limits of RAM on my 3G. In fact, I wonder if 4.x will have to be more limited on the 3G. (3GS and iPad have double the RAM.)

As for 3.2, I got the impression that was iPad-only. Something to fill in until 4.0?

Yeah, announcing a new iPad 5 days after the first wouldn't be wise... :p
