Says who? For all intents and purposes, the best iPhone designs were 4 and 5. And they were good for THAT time they were released. If you also want to ride a 1940s beetle because of its iconic design, go right ahead.

5S was an iteration that stuck out because of the introduction of gold, and 6 resulted in epic sales, even if a bit meh from the get go.
iMAC has a 10 years design... GREAT design... they didn't change it (upgrade a bit).

Sony & Apple are the only ones that offer compact phones.

^ I expect that design by March 2020. Apple needs to milk the 6-design a 5th time.

By the time we get X3 in 2019, everyone is complaining how boring the X design got no different than the complaints for the 7 last year.

SE3 = SEX!

^ $500, March 2020
A12 chip from the X2
Better specs than your current X ;)

Patience is a virtue. What's the point of ever buying a 4, 6, and X when better ones that are cheaper and more refined come along?

The form factor is pure Mac Pro cheese grater of near perfect form and functionality (if only if looked like the iPhone 4)

I don’t care if they market it toward developing nations or as a flagship device, I just want the size.

This truly made my day.

Namaste.

SE-X won't arrive until probably 2020. I see this SEries will be updated every two years and have 18 months old SoC to keep the price low.

We can't expect Apple to give it A11 and keep the price at under $500 when the 7 & 8 costs higher. The og SE getting the 6s SoC and rear camera was kinda a fluke.

I expect this SE2 to lose headphone jack though. The og SE might be the last to offer it. It will gain water/dust resistance. It will look like a smaller iPhone 8 and a slight resemblance to the 4.
Repeat after me: The headphone jack has NOTHING to do with water/dust resistance.
Because other phones have managed to have the jack AND be water/dust resistance.

Since iOS 11 made my 5S super slow and the battery drain fast I hope this comes true.

Don't expect it to be anything more than a minor spec bump to keep it current. It will still be $399 worth of iPhone.

If you want $999 technology, you need to buy iPhone X. You don't get that for $399.

Those of you that think that iPhone SE is "Apple keeping a 4" for people who like it" are wrong. It is all about having a $399 iPhone.
I agree... but what do you do with $999 technology? ... open your phone? :) the head of the character in a youtube video is 2mm bigger? 3 extra lines for reading? your fingers jumping all over the place? Steve Jobs was right. the 4" was the most compromise in my opinion. you have bigger screens that make the difference starting with the ipad size. in between, just gimmicks.

Those specs aren’t that compelling

Well the A10 is still a fantastic CPU, very competitive in benchmark.

I see absolutely no problem with those specs. In fact I just see tremendous value : Low price (relative to any other iPhone), good performance, good battery life and honestly the small form factor is better in some situations (not all, but it’s definitely not a pure negative).

The actual SE is a very good phone already.

Thank goodness this SE2 rumor is out. My iPhone X envy is completely gone. This rumor became a cure for my X lust.

What I like about these iPhone Special Editions is it takes all the best elements of previous models and packs it into smaller device with an entry-level price.

The 5th Member
4, 4s, 5, 5s, SE
6, 6s, 7, 8, SE2

...,

SE line -
Best elements of previous iPhones
Best for one-handed use
Lowest price / best value
Long battery life (better than 4.7" iPhones)

I sure hope you're wrong. That means the SE2 will lose its best-for-one-handed-use status, at a minimum. The SE is a budget phone with baseline support for the current operating system, and it serves the need for compact phones. The 6-8 series phones are too big for those who prefer the SE now.

My guess is the SE2 case gets a slight redesign, probably dropping the headphone jack in the process, upgraded components, and the current SE continues on, sharing many of the same components, but with an older processor, and selling for around $199. The SE2 looks more like the current product line, continuing the baseline performance of the entry level 4.7" phone, while the SE will support basic functions with limited storage and power.

The quality of the SE compared to the 5 is horrible. It's like all the components were replaced with junk parts. The rattling, no chamfered edges, why does apple pinch pennies like this?
The quality of the SE compared to the 5 is the same or better. It's like all the components weren't replaced with junk parts to make things fit. No rattling and the chamfered edges make it easy to hold. I'm so glad Apple pinch's pennies like this.

Since iOS 11 made my 5S super slow and the battery drain fast I hope this comes true.
Have no idea what people are expecting to gain from the latest iOS on such an old device. Apple set up a trap and you just jumped?

I find those specs difficult to believe, especially the storage options. If the current SE has 64 and 128 options, why would Apple go backwards? I was waiting for a new SE, but I got impatient and bought an 8 instead. I'll stay with that unless the new SE has more compelling features (besides the more pocketable size).

Interesting, between my 6S and my SE, both on 11.1.2, I see no discernible difference in speeds when it comes to opening or closing apps, or making calls. Battery life is similar enough that it isn't a concern of mine.

They didn't change it because
a) Their focus has veered from the Mac product line and into mobile
b) Under Cook's command they have become a team of lazy penny thrifting product owners
c) Jobs is not there anymore to push the envelope

What Microsoft did with the Surface Studio (regardless of its commercial performance) last year is exactly what Apple had done with the iMac G4 some 15 years ago. And also a spot-on example of how Apple has lost that once defining drive to excite and innovate.

but the question is? do you still like the iMac design? because, like with the phones and any gadgets, you are impressed with the design, you like it, but in 3 months time you get so accustomed with it that you forget about it (if you protect it with a case - which is the case, design is over)... when you watch your screen, you don't look at the design of the hardware... software. like cars. people buy cars because of how they look outside. but you sit and drive inside ;-)

More than competitive. Still faster than 95% of Android flagships out there.

If it ain’t broke..

This remains the best designed iPhone so far.

You are correct, sir. Elegant and timeless design, portable, light, great battery life, great reception, runs iOS like butter since it pushes less pixels than the larger screens on iPhone 6s and later, not slippery as the current iPhones... the list goes on. I use it along AirPods and Watch series 2 and I'm in Apple heaven. Don't need face ID nor large screens since I don't do heavy work on the phone, just some e-mail while commuting, music, light web surfing, health data and the occasional GPS/maps and messages moments. Bring the new SE, Apple. Here's my money!

Wait so this has iPhone 7 innards?
I was pretty sure if they updated the SE these are the parts they’d use. All Apple will do for this phone is upgrade the chip. Everything else will stay the same. Same screen, body and cameras. The only other thing they may upgrade is the touch id to 2nd gen. A10 is more than capable for an entry level device, it will fly with that chip set...

I get wanting to have a low(er) price SKU in the line up.

BUT, I bet if Apple made a phone in this size, but with premium specs...like an X, but shrunk down to this size...they could give it a premium price and it'd sell like hot cakes. There are a LOT of small people and/or people with small hands who want "the best" but not "big."

If it looks like the iPhone 5 again, then that design won’t be dead until 2020. That’s insane!

I love the design. Flat edges makes for an easy hands free flashlight. Doesn't bend when in my pocket. Phone works great too.

Also I love that is not constantly scanning faces looking for me or someone very similar.
