Once there are no mini-sized iPhones available, I will no longer carry an iPhone with me. I'm not a smartphone addict (which is why I don't jones for larger and larger screens), and anything bigger than the mini is more than I want in my front pocket.

This is bad. I personally love FaceID now but I know a few friends who are still on SE because they are not ready for FaceID yet. Apple should at least add TouchID to power button.

I have a co-worker who just to the latest gen SE and he does not want to move to FaceID. Soon he won't have a choice unless he goes down the used route.

No - the point of the SE has always been to offer a low-cost iPhone. One that not too many customers in the developed world want (so as not to cannibalise sales of their bigger premium devices).

Most people don't want small or years-old technology/design.
Both keep the price down though, so that's probably why it used to be small.
No, this is what Apple's gullible believe, but the first generation of SE wasn’t cheap: it had the same cpu as the 6s, the same space, the same price, in fact cost as a 6s.
It has been since the second generation that it has become the crap that it still is today: a reminiscence of the iPhone 6, with very old components, and the gullible Apple to justify it and justify the company.

I am one of them. That’s why I keep buying the SE every other year. Can’t stand FaceID. I do hit my home button while picking up my phone, done! FaceID is slower than TouchID.

Why does everyone assume it’s an Xr, when the 11 also had an LCD screen.
Because the XR has single camera while the 11 has dual lens. Apple will keep the cheapest iphone with just single camera. If the SE had dual camera, people would be less likely buying the more expensive iphones. Same reason why Apple keep telephoto lens just for the Pro models.

XR is fat and screen resolution / PPI is so low, hope they don't actually do this.
Why not re-use the fab for XS instead
The XR has the exact same PPI as the current SE, so not sure what you're talking about.

The XS is stainless steel, Apple wouldn't use that. Plus Apple wouldn't want to reengineer the screen with LCD.

The 2016 SE was launched at $399 starting price. Considering it has the same chip as the flagship $650 6s at its launch time, it was one of the best cheapest deal of any iphone.

Exactly. After owning an iPhone 6 for over a year and finding it slightly too large to be comfortable (also the slippy rounded edges), the release of the sleek and lightweight 2016 SE with its 6S internals and grippy edges came as a godsend, and it was inexpensive to boot. It has remained my favorite iPhone model.

The release of the iPhone X, even larger and heavier than the 6, with its stupid notch and still round edges and no headphone jack and power button now on the side was a major letdown (its only positive was the OLED panel, in my view). The iPhone mini finally was a smaller and lighter model again, though still not ideal compared to the original SE in terms of weight and one-handed use. And now we seem to be entering the dark times again. ;)

Even tho this iphone is not for me, I think it’s great news. Not everyone wants an expensive ”Pro” iphone or even a fairly expensive regular iPhone. Giving them a budget option like the SE makes good business sense.

Pretty soon there will simply be no iPhone worth getting. Who wants to basically carry an iPad in their pocket? 6-7" phone are fine if all you do is sit on your couch all day, but they're terrible as mobile devices.

6.1" is the absolute smallest i'll go now. anything under is a joke. good to see the lowest iphone will move to 6.1"

i wish apple made a larger phone than the 6.7" pro max but i'd be tempted to grab an SE.

also good riddance to the ancient iphone 6-8 design. i don't care if it has a notch in 2024. i ain't dealing with a huge forehead and chin with a home button lol. face id has been proven and there is no place for touch id anymore on iphone. people need to move on or go to android if they can't deal with face id.

By the time this comes out, Face ID will be nearly 6 years old. It's time to bring it to a $429 iPhone.
I think it will. iPhone SE is the cheap iPhone. So they will not develop a feature like side-button Touch ID for this phone. They’ll use what they have in the drawer.
I thought the point of the SE was to offer a small phone as well as an affordable one.
No. The point of SE was to be very cheap to produce using old form factors and production technology. It was not meant to be small.
Sadly.
