I need to go stock up on the current SE.

Tim Cook specifically stated that the Iphone SE is for those that like smaller iPhones when revealing the SE3, so lets hold onto that statement in the hope that the SE4 will actually be a smaller iPhone, not an XR chassis with a 6.1" screen. 5.4" to 5.8" is the sweet spot.

Why does everyone assume it’s an Xr, when the 11 also had an LCD screen.
Xr was single-camera so that's why everyone's (rightly) assuming SE 4 will be the same.

For SE Gen. 4 to adopt the dual-camera setup and overall design of iPhone 11, iPhones 15(or 16) would need to jump to a three-camera setup and 15 Pro would need to jump to four.

Apple's profit targets don't have room for consumers looking at the back of an iPhone and not instantly recognising where it ranks on the value ladder.

Yes, it's very on-the-nose but it clearly works.

I thought the point of the SE was to offer a small phone as well as an affordable one.
The point of the SE, both Apple Watch and iPhone, is to use an old design and slap a new processor in it to make it as affordable as possible, while still being worth it.
The 2016 iPhone SE used a 2012 design with 2015 internals.
The 2020 SE used a 2014-17 design with 2019 internals.
It makes sense The the next SE will use the previous design from the 2019 iPhone 11 with modern internals.

Don't understand why they would use a 6.1" screen compared to a 5.4" Mini screen. A 6.1" display with the latest A chip (if it follows the SE trend) and low price would likely canibalise sales from the mainline 6.1" models for people that just want a regular camera.
The resolution of the 5.4 inch mini iPhone is 460 pixels per inch.
The resolution of the 6.1 inch iPhone XR and 11 was 326 pixels per inch.
So they’ve got two options, either come up with a new lower resolution for a 5.4 inch LCD display that has never been produced before, or reuse the 11 low resolution components.
Which do you think is going to be able to keep that at a $400 or so price point?
Certainly not a new resolution, and certainly not OLED

Apple is slowly but surely getting all our body details lol fingerprint face ears for spatial audio lol they will have it all

If this is true, it is terrible for the accessibility community.
Many voiceover users strongly prefer devices with home buttons. It helps people with no vision to find the bottom of the device quickly and to navigate to the home screen and app switcher with much more accuracy. Apple is well aware of this fact.
I’ll be surprised if they discontinue the home button on every model. Voiceover users are a large market. The V.A. provides veterans who lost their sight in combat with apple devices, and a lot of occupational therapists recommend apple because of its accessibility support.
But I suppose progress will march on despite the objections of late adopters.
I can’t see my iPhone’s screen.
I’ve used voiceover my entire life of using iOS devices, which is well over a decade.
I’ve used plenty of iPhones with a home button and plenty without, it is no less difficult to use one without than with.

I honestly think this decision, if true, has to do with the XR form factor and a single camera system. That helps with the budget intent of the SE. Having 2 cameras requires a higher cost. And changing an iPhone X form factor to a single camera system requires engineering, which also raises the price.

It's so simple but people refuse to accept that SEs are never going to be anything more than that.

Got a feeling we’re not seeing a major form factor change here to keep margins tight. So expect a new chip, and maybe at most mag safe if they can pull it off.

The SE is usually not something brand new or innovative feature wise and I couldn’t see them wasting the money on something that is a small percentage of the revenue.

That said I’d love to be wrong. Would personally love Touch ID and a pin hole front camera. Form factor wise I dig my pixel 4a (I use all platforms).

iPhone 11 or at least iPhone XR body with iPhone 11 battery

Still hoping to have iPhone 11 camera layout

Why does everyone assume it’s an Xr, when the 11 also had an LCD screen.

Because the current SE has a single rear camera without night mode. It's unlikely to jump two steps ahead and potentially cannibalize iPhone 14 sales.

2024 makes a lot of sense. Bring this 6.1 inch SE 4 out in 2023 and it’ll eat into the lacklustre (and in Europe overpriced) regular 14 sales. Assuming the regular iPhone 15 is a bit more inspiring, has dynamic island etc than the SE 4 will fit well into the line up.

This phone will sell extremely well imo.
