Can't argue against this, also, makes sense seeing as the holiday shopping season is here.By the time this comes out, Face ID will be nearly 6 years old. It's time to bring it to a $429 iPhone.

Agree. Apple is about streamlining production for maximizing efficiency, aka using existing components. They wouldn't be bothered redesigning the shell and screen just for the cheapest (lowest margin) iphone. It will be just the XR with probably an A16 or A17 inside.Correct me if I’m wrong but I thought the whole purpose of the notch was to house the True Depth camera along with front facing camera? If they plan on keeping the Touch ID to “keep costs down” then there’s literally no point in having the notch, just go for the hole punch design for the front facing camera. But seeing as Apple has never done that I can almost guarantee that if the new SE has a notch then Touch ID will be gone.
People want big phones. The XR / 11 is big and even if Apple put USB-C on it, I’d imagine with a 5-6 year old chassis (by 2024) they’ll be able to fit that in ok.Don't understand why they would use a 6.1" screen compared to a 5.4" Mini screen. A 6.1" display with the latest A chip (if it follows the SE trend) and low price would likely canibalise sales from the mainline 6.1" models for people that just want a regular camera.
Also with a - presumably - cheap to repair LCD screen, this phone is going to be great in emerging markets (and for anyone who just wants a relatively cheap modern iPhone).OLED vs. LCD. The XR 6.1" LCD screen already exists. For the mini, they would either have to use the more expensive (and more premium) OLED screen, or they’d have to design and set up production of a new 5.4" LCD screen. The larger battery probably also facilitates whatever adjustments they make to the internals.
No, there is no relevant market for small phones.I thought the point of the SE was to offer a small phone as well as an affordable one.
Yes, it was. I’m talking about when the SE was introduced. No it's not. The SE is basically the cheapest iphone Apple can make using older design/shell. The smaller size is just coincidental because that's the size of that older shell.
6.1 isn’t that large. And as you saw with the mini and the sales of cheap but other android devices: there is no market.Always this monstrous screens. is there really no market for sane sized phones anymore?
Exactly. Consumers were given a small size option in the 12/13 Mini and didn't bite. The SE is the value / entry option. Please don’t start this debate again.
SE is entry level model. Nothing to do with size.
Apple will stick to single lens for the lowest tier iPhone. If they put two lenses, less people would be tempted to spend more on the more expensive iPhones. It's about upselling. The same reason Apple is not giving telephoto lens to non-Pro iPhones. It’s a shame they can’t make it more like the iPhone 11, but instead of an ultra wide, make the second lens a 2x zoom for portraits. Still, I’m glad this will still have LCD for my pwm sensitive friends. Now if they would stop with temporal dithering, too.
That’s strange. The standard iPad has only gotten about 6-7% bigger. Not sure why Apple wouldn’t call that portable anymore.Markets change and it's about turning lemons into lemonade. When the 9.7-inch iPad was launched in 2017, Apple sold it on "portability" and price. Apple doesn't mention that anymore with the current 10.2-inch model.
Please un-soap-bar the sides of the phone. It's a slippery little devil.
Can we please stop perpetuating the notion of Apple doing these never-done-before iPhone hybrid designs for the SE? They are not happening. Never have, never will.OLED vs. LCD. Small works much better with a case. I don’t care about a big screen if it breaks every time I drop it. The current SE is already on the chunkier side. Took a while to adjust from the nimble 5s form factor 1st gen SE.Small is a byproduct of being low-cost. Few people actually want a small device.
Let’s ask for a separate SE Mini! Until then I’m hanging onto my 13 Mini till the bitter end…Please don’t start this debate again.

iPhones with new designs and/or new hardware start at $799 in 2022. $429 is not enough tocover r&d for anything more than a limited spec bump and new color options using an old iPhone design and mostly older hardware.be the biggest company in the world.
End of story!
So basically a XR with a spec bump
