There goes my hope that the next SE will be mini-sized. Maybe they'll keep the 13 mini for another year then and make it more affordable, but that seems somewhat unlikely now.
I’d love to see the Mini series on a 2 or 3, even 4 years refresh cycle… Fine by me, I just don’t want a large phone. But sadly there’s not much hope that this is going to happen right now.

Unfortunately battery technology just has not kept up with the pace of ever faster SoCs and other chips inside modern smartphone, neccesating larger phones to contain larger batteries.

I was glad to see a rumor about this phone which I enjoy the 2020 model of, but much less so given the rumor details seem to be about as vague and far off as can be. Sheesh.

I think the Mini 13 shows that it’s still enough.
But obviously, the people that want a smaller phone are a minority. I think that’s the main hindrance for the Mini series 😭

I think the main hindrance was that they didn't run a single ad for the mini over the two years it existed, or that it was relegated to the "low end" version. Maybe packing all those features in the small frame wasn't possible, but I was certainly one that would have chose a Pro Mini over the 6.1 inch pro

It’s about time they get rid of the home button and those thick ass bezels. Hopefully the base model iPad leaks are true about them eliminating the home button as well. It’s long overdue.

I could have told you this ages ago.

The next iPhone SE is going to be based on the iPhone 11 body and WILL have face ID. It will be released in early 2024, shortly after the iPhone 15 models have been released in late 2023.

They are not going to redesign any aspect of the phone. The SE line has always used an old shell. Never a new one.
give me a 4S with new internals!

This will possibly be the last iPhone with a lightning port.
I do wonder whether a USB-C port can be fitted into the XR chassis. I could see it going either way. When they switched to Lightning that was it for 30-pin on all future phone and iPad releases.

Just imagine an SE without FaceID but with TouchID integrated under the screen. This would sell like hot cake.

No, this is what Apple's gullible believe, but the first generation of SE wasn’t cheap: it had the same cpu as the 6s, the same space, the same price, in fact cost as a 6s.
It has been since the second generation that it has become the crap that it still is today: a reminiscence of the iPhone 6, with very old components, and the gullible Apple to justify it and justify the company.
Same price?

SE was $399, while the 6s was $649.

You are telling me after 5 years, they are really considering Touch ID still for the SE? Haven’t they made enough money off Face ID models to make it standard? I can understand making Dynamic Island specific to the flagship models.

There is no new iPhone for me anymore.

Looks like I’ll eventually be out of the ecosystem. I have a 2016 SE that won’t last so much longer. After that, maybe I’ll get a used 12 mini or 4.7” SE. What’s it going to take for Apple to stop abandoning people who don’t like giant brick phones?

The smaller iPhone of the future may be a folding phone that is small when folded and optionally larger when not. Of course the smallest iPhone could be an entirely displayless phone paired with AR glasses.

Due to eye strain and headaches from the new oled screens I've stuck with the 8 Plus and the new SE. As much as I love the SE size for my pocket, everyday use is just harder on a smaller screen. I tend to keep grabbing the 8 Plus more and more. One day we won't have TouchID but hope that there is at least one LCD offering or better oled tech solutions for eye strains. Keeping the screen brightness at 100% all day is hard to stare at and hard on the battery. I do miss having a Pro Max. It's too bad the 14 Plus wasn't the SE Plus this time around.
