What would be a recent Apple hardware release without some "rattle", …

Also I absolutely did not like the touch feel of the first iPad Air - it felt like knocking on a empty space / hole, ... :-/

Since this is externally nearly identical to the 5s, it's not surprising that some would have the same "loose" power button. Rattle is probably a strong word, but it definitely isn't firmly in place in some samples.

What surprises me is that not all 5-bodied iPhones do that--it seems to vary from sample to sample, at least on a few 5/5s's I've seen. You'd think that with the ridiculous manufacturing tolerances, they'd all be the same one way or the other.

I'm a little confused by the "rattle," I've always found Apple's buttons to be somewhat loose. If you run your finger over one, odds are you can feel it move back and forth slightly.

Is that what people are referring to?

To hear the rattle, hold an iPhone 5 or 5s to your ear with the power button nearby and shake the phone.

Both my original iPhone 5 (2013) and refurb replacement (2016) have this characteristic. In normal daily use I don't hear it and it doesn't affect me.

I think this is a problem that people really have to go looking for. However, maybe some people just have sensitive hearing.

My 5s power button rattles when you shake it. I haven't thought about it in 2 years.

Wow, so they're really using the same machines that carved out the 5S parts. That's the first thing I noticed going from a 4S to a 5S, the button just wiggles around a bit. Oh well, I got used to it so I guess it won't bother me too much on the SE. Got me a good deal on an 64GB SE on eBay, hoping it all works out nice and I'm getting good offers for my SE so it's a good upgrade for a decent price. My 5S would probably lose most of it's value next year so better upgrade now.

The odd thing, they got it perfect on the very first iPhone and the 4S (probably the ones in between as well). Even my girlfriend's iPhone 5 is great. All iPhone 5S I've fondled had the wiggly button though. Maybe there's a good reason for it (maybe the rattling button lacks a spring mechanism holding it in place but removing the spring improved antenna performance).

I'm loving my SE. The power button is solid on mine, with a nice firm click and no rattling. Even though the display is smaller than my old 6, I have no trouble reading text on it; everything's nice and sharp. Touch ID does seem slightly slower than on my 6 for some reason, but it's not a big issue. "Hey Siri" has been really responsive.

As I posted in another thread, iPhone 5/s cases do NOT really fit the SE. I got one at Best Buy, and it was an unusually tight fit, deforming the top of the case. The buttons, camera and speaker holes aren't quite lined up either. I've ordered an actual SE case (since right now they're hard to find).

Sounds like a crappy case. The bodies are literally identical. There's no reason they shouldn't work.

Small Size is Perfect
For whom?
People with small hands and people that like smaller form factors. Not really shocking.

I just shook my 6 Plus and heard some rattling not from what I assume is the power button. If that's really the only problem people can find with the SE, then that just means a job well done for Apple!

Interesting. I never owned a 5/5S, but my friend does. I just borrowed their phone and I can indeed hear it, but it's faint. In normal use I don't think (and I never have when using it) noticed it. I rarely shake my phone (and I had to shake this one pretty good) and if I'm recording video I try to keep my phone as steady as possible.

I'm sure there are some defective models with excessive rattling, but this is really kind of nit-picking. Not enough to warrant the return hassle in my opinion.

Ohhhh... So my friend who just got the SE was asking me, "What's that rattle?" I thought he was asking me, "What's a battle?", and I thought he was an idiot. You see, I have a cold, so I hear my "R's" as "B's".
