Minor drawbacks ? like what ? not having 3D Touch (a gimmick), Barometer (didn't know everyone need this) & 1.2MP Front Camera (unless you're a 12 year old girl that taking duck face selfies, you can live with that).

Finally Apple give us what we asked for - powerful 4” iPhone with bigger battery and the latest specs for a good price, and still people always find something to complain about… its a phone, NOT a media consumption device, if thats what you after - looks else were, thats what choices for.

I completely agree with you, but I had to write that so that I wouldn't get bombarded with replies from those people who expected more lol

What the SE really proves is that Apple miscalculated how many of us didn't want giant screens.

I love when someone thinks they have more knowledge about market trends than a ludicrously profitable giant corporation with dozens, if not hundreds of people devoted solely to researching and analyzing market data.

Did you ever think that this just might have been an intentional move? Look at it this way: They got a huge segment of consumers to move to bigger phones, and now they'll have a sizable portion of those early adopters to move back to a smaller size. All the while they provided a nice upgrade route for folks who didn't upgrade to 6/6S AND created a lower price point to buy into the Apple ecosystem. AND they're spacing it out far enough from the new "flagship" model to spur tons of sales for that model as well. Seems pretty well thought out to me, actually.

At risk of starting WW3, while in essence I agree Steve Jobs smaller can be better on phones, with 4 inches having ideal thumb reach position without being fully extended or flexed (like mine on the 6s+) as well as having a better grip than larger phones, I might worry about repetitive strain injury using one finger to regularly perform tasks, I regularly shift between two hands and multiple positions on the larger phone. To each his own.

Let's see how well it sells. I think it will bomb and die within 18 months to be replaced by a 4" iPhone 7 design.

We don't know how many of those 30 million sales were iPhone 5s units so we don't know how popular it was compared to the iPhone 6. I've never had a problem getting hold of accessories for new iPhones. What else do you need apart from a case? I can't see that being a major decision making factor for buyers.

Apple stated in their event that they sold 30 million 4" phones last year. The only 4" phone they had for sale last year was the 5s. So, we know exactly how many.

The psychology of this is very interesting. People have been swayed by Apple's marketing to the point it's become embarrassing. They said they love the iPhone 6/6s it's so large and so great. Now they just hate bigger phones so much and with a passion they just want the small model again. A little consistency and critical thinking when it comes to buying Apple products, peeps!
Or different people have different needs. I bought the 6s thinking that Apple would never make another four inch phone. If I had known I would have waited as I hate big phones and always have. Others love their big phones. It is possible for two Apple fans to have completely differing views on the size of phone they want. We don't share a hive mind.

While bluetooth is pretty much standard in cars these day, I drive a 20+ year old Citroen (by choice and because I love it) which has a now vintage/period correct Blaupunkt headunit in which has a tape deck and aux input but no bluetooth, and Im not going to buy a new stereo just so I can play stuff via bluetooth - so yes buying a new cable is cheaper than a new stereo and would be the lesser of two evils but its the faffing around between cables and phone while driving that would be annoying but what about my headphones - and a stereo jack to lighting connecter will look like arse sticking out a centimetre and a bit from the bottom of a phone and would be awkward in your pocket if you try to sit down and how long until you lose it ? Scrapping the headphone jack on the 7 just doesn't make sense to me yet, that's all

Yes it's true that Apple have lost sight of all the people using the original stereo in their 20+ year old Citroens. That will undoubtedly cause a terrible kerfuffle at the iPhone 7 launch.
Oh wait, do they even know what a Citroen is in America? Perhaps some kind of obscure European citrus fruit?
:)

People don't know what they want until Apple tells them what they want.

Is it faster because smaller screen & faster refresh rate per screen size and resolution ?

I know it shouldn't matter, but I heard rumblings that this could give the illusion of faster iOS on SE compared to 6S+

I like the form factor of the SE, but to upgrade from my 6 isn't much of a spec upgrade. If this phone gets a spec bump when the iPhone 7 comes out (I'm not holding my breath), it's pretty much a guarantee that it'll be my next iPhone. If it doesn't get a spec bump, then I'll have to see how big of a difference there is between SE and 7, other than screen size.
It's an iPhone 6s in a smaller package, so why would you expect a spec update?

The BEST iPhone I've ever owned was the iPhone 5 on iOS 6.1.2. The worst iPhone I've ever owned is my iPhone 6. The stutter, lag and general terrible performance is unacceptable. It is THE reason I left Android.

On one hand I'd love the SE, on the other, I know the 7 will be even more powerful. TBH, for a phone, smaller is better. Battery life is my primary concern.

Apple has more than one customer, you know. With different pocket sizes, and with different amounts of cash in their pockets.

I had such hopes Apple would make the SE degrade-free. But Nooooooo. Have to put a lousy FF camera in!

I think what's so surprising with the iPhone SE is that it's so very unApple. Very rarely do they release products with this kind of price/performance ratio. I'm still holding onto my 5S, and was planning on the 7 in the fall, but this is pretty tempting...

Make no mistake, the 5S is still a fast phone, even now with iOS 9.3. I can't imagine mine rocking an A9 processor, so I'll take their word that it's blazing fast.

It's a little disappointing that the front camera still has 1.2MP. It would have been nice if they bumped it to 5MP or even 3MP. But 12MP on the back is a sizable increase from the 5S. The only real pressing issue for me to upgrade from my 5S is the dust collecting under my lens. It's really, really annoying. I've already had it blown out once, and dust just keeps coming back. I'm not too keen on the iPhone SE if this problem still exists...

Just like no chance Apple would release an iPad Pro spec iPad 9.7" tablet with even BEST front/rear camera, Retina Flash, pencil support, top end display beating the 12.9" brother, and 256GB memory FOUR MONTHS after iPad Pro released. No Apple will never do such a thing!
It's a different size with a $200 price difference, I don't think that is comparable.

Oh wait, do they even know what a Citroen is in America?

Err yeah, they do, given that Citroen is 1 of the 13 European car manufactures supporting CarPlay compared to the grand total of 5 American car manufactures involved in the program and the remaining 6 are based in Asia, CarPlay would've been dead in the water if European brands hadn't supported it

Looks like a great device but again with the 16gb storage? So perplexing with how cheap memory has gotten that apple doesn't get to at least 32gb. Would be nice if it had the better front facing camera, 3d touch, and image stabilization but kind of minor for the price and performance. A design with reduced bezels would have been nice as well but definitely a market for this device as a lot of people still like smaller handsets.

Biggest issue is if you don't live in the U.S. its not such a good deal. 16 gb is $579 64 gb $709 Canadian. No thanks

$709 = $534 US. Yeah, it's $34 more but that's not so much.

Blame the currency being weak, not Apple. :(

It's still $34 plus tax I'd rather have in my pocket. Not blaming Apple just saying it's not really a great deal for an off contract phone in most non US countries.

Anyone know what happened to the 5S? No longer on the apple.ca site anyway.

Coke -> New Coke -> Classic Coke
iPhone 5 -> iPhone 6 -> iPhone SE

I've been around in this forums when it became harder and harder to defend hand-sized phones against the ever louder scream for phablets. The notion was the (Android) market had spoken and it demanded bigger screens. Smaller screens were considered to be old and outdated and Apple would be doomed if it would stick to them. And now here we are, the company forecasts it's first no-growth quarter and rushes out an upgraded iPhone 5s successor. And suddenly the old design is beautiful again, because all what came after was even worse.

Back to the taste of Classic Coke!

Big difference is Apple will still sell many 5.5 4.7" phones probably more than the SE. New Coke fell off the face of the earth.

Honestly this is the perfect set up for any phone manufacturer there are customers who like each different size for different reasons.

Personally 5.5 (especially the iphone with its large bezels) is to big to have in my pockets comfortably. Currently find my 5s nice in the pocket but wanting a larger display. I still find that 4.7 - 5 is the Goldilocks size phone for me but Apple needs to shrink the bezels to make it the perfect size. Throw in an amoled screen and let the party begin.

Don't you mean 2 gigs of ram?
New Coke was sold and advertised alongside with Classic Coke for quite some time before it vanished completely. No difference so far.

A more apt comparison would be super-compact eco-friendly cars -->big gas guzzlers--> super-compact? Time will tell.

small screen with all of the efficiency improvements the 6 and 6s have received and slightly larger battery capacity, I'd expect good battery life. Interesting that it beat the Galaxy by so much.

Edit to add: I'm surprised that the 6S also beats the Galaxy by so much in battery life. From the chorus of complaints around here I've inferred that Android (which Galaxy certainly is the major player) has significantly better battery life than iPhone. Maybe there are smaller Android players that do or perhaps the complaints are just universal to modern smart phones but it would appear that at least the two leaders in smart phones have similar battery life (e.g. one is not double the other) and iPhone outlasts the samsung option by a good margin.

One thing that confuses people is the difference between the size of the battery (which is fundamentally meaningless) and how long that battery runs the phone (which is the key issue). The GS7 has a 3,000 mah sized battery. The iPhone 6s has a 1,715 mah phone. But iOS and the hardware run so much more efficiently that the iPhone 6s runs longer. Apple's ability to run longer on a much smaller battery is just a huge advantage. Android phones just stay competitive by using much bigger batteries (which means added weight and the batteries use up space in the phones, which is generally the initial reason why Androids went with the larger screens, they needed room for bigger batteries).

Another thing is that a slower processor combined with a bigger battery can result in great battery life. I have a BBRY Z30. It has a largish battery, 2,880. And since it has an older and slower processor, it is truly a "two day" phone. I can take it off the charger in the morning on Tuesday and I do NOT need to charge it on Wednesday night. It is only sometime on Thursday that I will run out. Impossible to use the phone up in one day. But the processor is about 80% slower than what is in my iPhone 6S.
