I'm angry, but I just want my phone back. Ideally I'd have her learn from this and clean her white trash self up, but I can't be bothered to deal with courts. If I get my phone back, I'm happy. I don't want to destroy the rest of her life, but I do want her to regret this bad decision.

She is lucky that she stole your iPhone. If she stole mine, then this case would have ended with her going for community service with criminal record. I wouldn't feel any pity for her actions. She deserves to be punished as an example.

Op already called her phone and asked for the phone back, but she did not call him back. She is basically ignoring her. I would go as far as put her on criminal record. I would use the word "screw"
She deserves to be ruined. She asked for it.

She'd get a slap on the wrist most likely.

HPD is a huge department, not sure if they'd do much about this. I'd try her parents first and if that didn't work, straight to the po po. My dad woulda beat my ass for this...a fear greater than the police.:D

Think of how much angrier your dad would have been though if the police came :p

At the very least I would work very hard finding out everything about her. Her name, address, that kind of stuff. what other social network sites she uses. Get involved with all her friends on facebook etc. Then unleash the story of her stealing your phone to the world.

At the very least make it known to her friends and family that she is a thief.

Perhaps something will come of it. She might be shamed into saying she found it but would return it.

Why should he even bother and spend his time doing this? Contact her parents for what? I wonder what good of that will be since their parents clearly failed to teach their child about honesty. Oh, don't forget to add her stupidity for adding him as her facebook friend. Either this girl is bold or stupid.
Long story short, give it to the police and let them handle. As far as punishment, I would not take this lightly. Ruining her life? Please...
You steal something from someone, then you deserve to be punished all the way. Its up to the victim to decide, but there shouldn't be a happy ending.

Cuz he might actually get his phone back that way. Idk if you've ever filed a police report for a petty crime in a large city, but I have and 9x outta 10 they file the report and that's the end of it.

It's not like they have unlimited resources and sometimes they just pick their battles. I hope they do actually follow up on it, but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't.

Since he has found her on facebook, it's not that much work left. Her parents will be fined for her stupid actions anyway. Of course, he can ask for money, so he can buy iphone 4 again. I would worry about catching that brat and forget about getting back your iphone 4. You can always sync back to itunes and recover all the information, so why does it matter what iphone 4 you have? Get the thief and make her pay.

Just be careful if she does contact you and invite you over to get the phone.

If she yells out to you in the driveway and tells you to come on in while holding a laundry basket, be concerned. If she then tells you to enjoy some sweet tea or lemonade and some fresh baked cookies while she is in the other room, just take off running.

Also if you can get some taser proof clothes too.

I haven't read the other pages but it looks like you lucked out with an idiot stealing your phone.

I really hope, for all of us, you hatchet-kick this girl in her ugly mug the second the phone is back in your possession.

People in general understand one thing: "I did this bad thing and I got smacked in my grill for it. Won't ever do that again."

Ask for money rather than the phone, who knows what sort of damage has been done to it while in possession. It could be damage that will show up in a few months. It's better to get a new phone and then add all your data backed up in iTunes onto it.

Parents defend their little kiddies these days. They don't teach right from wrong. They are like a sleazy defense attorney. Your Honor, my darling daughter would never do anything wrong, it's just a childish prank, it's his problem for losing the phone....

In Albany recently, teens pranked a homeowner. The homeowner ran out after the kids, tackled one of them, and kept the teen at the house until the police arrived. The parents of the offender filed charges against the HOMEOWNER for Child Endangerment. The kid got NOTHING. How wrong is that?

I vote to go to the police and post the results.

This is the best story I've read on MR in a while!

I did. I messaged her and left a voicemail on her cell phone. I told her that I didn't want to get the police involved, but I would if she didn't get into contact with me. I waited a while, hoping for a response, but she never got back to me. So I guess I'm calling the cops when I get home.

Why have you waited this long? If you have all that info on her, why not call right away? Getting the PD involved might get your phone back faster.

This.

10 bucks says she's dropping it on the concrete and getting her sweaty paws with cheetos-residue all over it.

I'm interpreting the OP's first post as the girl JUST added the OP as a facebook friend and now browsing her facebook, OP has enough evidence to bring to the police.

I smell something fishy with OP, as he hasn't answered any of the questions to the tune of "why the hell has he waited this long." I'm sorry, but if you can't decide on the proper action within 10 days in the case of stolen property...

My phone was stolen July 3rd, and she added me on Facebook a couple weeks after.

Well, if no action is to be taken on this issue, I really don't see the point in this thread.
So your phone was stolen, meh. <--- This.

I thought the proper action would be to get into contact with her before I went to the police. I tried, she never responded. I really hate dealing with the cops, so I've been waiting (hoping) to see if she would get back to me.

I hope you're not actually emailing her. Kids these days almost never check their actual email, try messaging her through Facebook, she will definitely read it there within 24 hours.

I sent her an email, a facebook message, and a voicemail.

Just send her another email stating you're now taking legal action and the authorities are now going to be involved due to her negligence. Also mention you have all the evidence digitally saved.

Be quick, because she might of already posted a Craigslist ad to get it off her hands...
