Hello,

I have a business account with ATT, and went to the Apple store to get a phone and they said because my phone number is with ATT business they can't do the Apple Upgrade program. I don't think this is correct. Can anyone confirm? I don't mind doing my Upgrade program under my personal credit.

This is confirmed. Even if you are using a personal credit card it will not work.

Wait a second.. Let me ask this.

Would you get denied if your ATT account had a FAN?

BL.

Not true about not being able to activate by swapping SIM as that is what I did. I had planned to do AUP, but the pesky business BYOD corporate plan got in the way. I bought full price and Apple rep swapped SIM for me.

If you buy the phone in full you can swap the SIM. If you're doing AUP they have to activate the new SIM.

No, a FAN is just a discount.

You wouldn't have even gotten to the point of being denied if you were on a corporate account.

Hmm.. Back in the iPhone 3G days, there was the difference between a personal FAN and a corporate FAN. I know I had a FAN from being an employee of the University of Nevada, but that never dropped from my account after I left there. I don't know if that would be corporate or personal. I'm wondering if any FAN would be reason for denial.

BL.

Just finish with apple. Came in an hour before my reservation. Was suprise I got approve with AUP. My credit score was lower than some of the people that got denied.

Can I get an answer as to whether or not they will let you purchase the phone through AT&T Next if you get declined for the upgrade program?

Yes they will.. I had the same issue with the upgrade program. My credit score is incredible. Never been late, a few high limit credit cards. I'm leasing two Premium Audi's so it was a total shock to be declined I knew there had to be a system problem. I went ahead and got back on the ATT next plan in store.

I too was declined (Glendale Galleria store, Glendale, CA). I just left without the phone. I was told I could start calling my banks and asking why, but I wasn't about to go through that hassle when I knew it wasn't me that was at fault. They lost a sale today (not that it matters) and now I'm not in so much of a rush to upgrade.

There is a little bit of a difference, kind of. A corporate FAN would be the FAN for an account that a corporation uses for their employees and they pay the bill.

A personal FAN would be a discount you get for being a member of an organization or company BUT you pay your own bill, not the company.

AT&T just refers to them all as FAN's as it is their identifier of the company and their account (s).

No I do not think that would affect anything at all as far as approval or denial.

Yes of course you can do that for full retail, I do it every year. Not if you want to use the Upgrade Program though

This is what I was wondering. I have a FAN on my account which makes my account an AT&T "Premier" account and I always seem to have problems with upgrades anywhere except AT&T. So even with a Premier account, you should be able to do the AUP?

This is possible. I had a corp FAN but paid it myself and was then reimbursed by the company for it. They made me switch account numbers and everything when I moved to it. I kept it even after I left that company. I gave it up with I moved to TMO. There are so many variables and the program is so new that it's hard to tell what some of the criteria is.

A little confused here or maybe just not understanding, you traded in the 6 plus and they credited the $ from that to where again? I thought it was issued in the form of a gift card.

No money changed hands. They need a credit card to open the line of credit. Weird, right? But that's how it works. The phone was charged to Apple, the card was credited with the trade.

Was just approved instantly for the AUP at the Mall of America Apple Store in MN. 690 Credit Score, Used an AMEX with about $3k available credit.

The Apple Specialist I worked with said he has had a very successful day with AUP approvals with only 1 denial all day.

Mine said the same thing, and then I got denied lol. Credit score above 700 and a card limit of $50(secured card) and I was denied...

I also had a horrible experience. I have high 700's credit score and had around 3500$ credit on my credit card thru which I tried to pay but I was denied. Apple representative told me that it will be an hard credit check. He told me that I have not been approved to buy phone. Hard credit check and that too being denied is a bad thing, as I have been told. I have a very good credit score and this is first time I have been ever denied of credit.

I tried calling Citizens One and they don't have a clue whats happening. The representative just told me that I will have to wait for letter to come to my house to know why I have been denied. They did not have other information.

Apple guy was clueless and for me it was an embarrassing experience.

Any suggestions what to do further will be appreciated .

Thanks

Don't see the issue. long as you aren't planning to buy a house or car in the next few months it's all good. what matter more really is utilization and payment history

No issue with me. I was just letting the quoted user know since he was asking.

I just turned 18 in January and have only had a credit card for a couple months and got approved for the upgrade program. Pretty easy and not a hassle at all for me.

Just got my wife's approved and out the door in less that 20 minutes. fico score of 815 apple rep said out of the five he did before only 2 were approved seemed random as hell to him.
