It's funny how both Apple and AT&T don't know if I can sign a two year contract when pre ordering opens tomorrow night, I just chatted with both ATT and Apple and they both didn't know if its possible to sign a two year contract, sounds like I'm not gonna pre order in time to get it on day 1 loll

At this time I have an ATT Next plan and an iPhone 6+.

I thought I would get on apple upgrade, get a new 6S+, then sell my old 6+ on eBay and pay whatever is owed to ATT so I don't have to phone monthly payments. Is that an option? I read somewhere that in order to get a phone with the Apple Upgrade plan you need to open a new line with a carrier. Is that true?

the fact we can't get pre approved or instructions for pre order day makes me uneasy about going with the program. I think I'm going to just do another two year and join the program later. I believe the 6s will satisfy my needs for awhile..... but the program is truly tempting. Sucks we have less than 48 hours to decide with such little info.

man, great point. I have been selling my old phones on eBay since day one to pay for the upgrade. I might be safer on Apple's system come next fall.

I think the APPTs are starting this weekend. So when you go in, they will check inventory levels online and let you know how soon it will ship. All depends on how popular the model is you want.

The safest way of assuring a Day 1 phone is preordering when it becomes avaliable, methinks
For those of you who had an idea of buying the entire phone outright to own it (including myself):

A big thing that NOBODY here has mentioned that should be pointed out is supply vs. demand.

Let's say you go ahead and just pay full price for your iPhone. Well... as time goes by there are going to be less amounts of people buying used iPhones because they will be signing up for these monthly plans. People won't want to pay $200-$300 for a used two year old iPhone. I think the value of the older iPhones is going to drop very quickly which is kind of brillant on Apple's part.

In the past I've been happy just getting a new iPhone every two years and selling my old one for the same price I paid for it. Not going to happen anymore.

I'm also considering buying outright but I have a different conclusion that you do on this. The supply of used iphones off ebay or craigslist will decrease but what do you think Apple will do with those traded in phones?? - they aren't going to landfill them but are going to refurbish them and offer them for sale themselves at a discount. Brilliant plan

  • I just talked to an apple rep about the iPhone program and figured id post what I found here to help you guys out.

Me:Would i be able to order my phone using the program online during pre orders?

Elizabeth:When you are ready to get your new iPhone you would need to visit an Apple Store. This way the necessary credit check can be ran.

Elizabeth:Only the Apple Stores are offering the Upgrade Program.

ElizabethWhen iPhones go on sale online at 12:01am PT this Saturday, customers who want Apple's financing will be able to make a reservation for a visit to an Apple store but won't be able to set up the finance deal without that store visit. The iPhone Upgrade Program requires a credit check, a credit card, and a 24-month installment loan.

Me:eek:kay, and do i need to be eligible to upgrade through my carrier?

Elizabeth: No, the iPhone’s that we will offer for the Upgrade Program actually come already Unlocked and with Apple Care Plus as well.

What if my parents lines are all on my name with verizon, and I am purchasing all 3 phones. Would they need to check my parents as well, as they are out of the country. I would be the one picking them up all at once. Is this possible, or would I need them with me?

Well, this really isn't associated as directly as before with a wireless account. This is a purchase plan with Apple. You could likely do this yourself, but you will have to "qualify," for three purchases. Also, I'm not sure if they can do it in one transaction or you could get three inquiries on your credit report? I would suggest asking ahead to get all this information before you go ahead with it.

Am I the only one who gets absolutely horrible service on Verizon with an iPhone 6? I'm going back to AT&T.

Yep; my wife's 6 is better than my 5.

Verizon does have the best coverage; we even had service in Yellowstone NP.

At this time I have an ATT Next plan and an iPhone 6+.

I thought I would get on apple upgrade, get a new 6S+, then sell my old 6+ on eBay and pay whatever is owed to ATT so I don't have to phone monthly payments. Is that an option? Using Apple and ATT's eligibility checks, it appears that ATT wants you to pay your NEXT eligibility amount before putting a new phone on that line. So, you can pay off your phone, or just the number of NEXT payments needed for trade-in, and activate the Apple upgrade plan on your current line. As I stated many pages ago, I believe forcing activation is perceived as an extra layer of protection for the financing bank.

Now, ATT will put a new phone on your current line in place of your current NEXT phone without the payoff. You'd have to go to/call ATT with the phone in hand. Since the Apple Upgrade plan is wanting to force activation and will check the status of the line.....I think it's a no-go without NEXT payoff.

This is going to turn out like the applewathc. You will make a reservation to do the upgrade plan, get to the store, and they direct you to buy the phone online, and it is sold out.

"You can make a reservation online, starting at 12:01 a.m. PDT on September 12, to buy in store. We’ll help you get set up with the iPhone Upgrade Program."

Yeah, the make a reservation part is what scares me away.

I'm not sure if people have posted this before, but I just got off the phone with an Apple rep and she told me that we would pre-order through the same page that the iPhone Upgrade Program is on right now. The credit score being used is FICO and it will NOT affect the credit score because the way the credit is checked is purely analytical and will therefore not cause your score to decrease.

I want to see the "Full Terms Apply" link to work. Still is "Coming Soon".

Could I buy the 6S from Apple on the installment plan and then activate it on my off-contract Verizon account that I still have with a grandfathered unlimited data plan?

This is an excellent question. I'm wondering the same thing about my AT&T account. I would hazard "yes," as in years past you could just get a T-Mobile phone at launch and swap the SIM. Here's to hoping Apple clarifies all this BEFORE the Sat preordering madness begins.

I spoke with two reps already about this to see if I'd get the same answers... I did.

They both confirmed that although the wording of the program is vague at best and doesn't cover certain situations, it will be pretty straight forward and simple when you apply.

Once accepted to the program you are essentially purchasing the iPhone 6s or + instantly.
You do not have to wait 12 months.
If you are already in a provider contract it doesn't matter where your status is or if you're eligible for their upgrade or not.
You do not need to change numbers or change your existing contract. Everything stays the same except now you will also be paying for another contract each month from Apple.
You will most likely have to pay some kind of new phone establishment fee from your service provider.

Hope this helps

Why are there two quotes for the 6sPlus 128? One is for $44.91/mo and the other is for $47.45/mo. One price is from the upgrade program page and the other is from the models and pricing page.

So basically you have to line up at an Apple Store on launch morning if you want a chance at getting one on the 25th.

Makes no sense that they can't run a credit check online o_Oo_Oo_O

The ATT rep I spoke with today said I couldn't bring my own device because I was still under contract? So basically if I bought the device from Apple, I couldn't use it with ATT without some type of penalty.

So doesn't it sound like you can reserve a date/time during the pre-order to go to an Apple store, and you'll still get a device reserved?

Where do you sell?

Craigslist or Ebay. I have gotten pretty good at avoiding scams, but meeting Craigslist buyers isn't for everyone.

Its amazing how many replies you get 5 minutes after posting to Craigslist.

I want to use the Apple program since it's cheaper and includes AppleCare+, which Next does not. I purchased my 6+ under a 2 year agreement, but I have another line eligible for an upgrade. Odds are I will end up using Next.

One problem I have is that I always buy the 128GB even though I could easily get by with a 64GB. I always think if I buy more capacity, I will use it. That has not held true in either my iPhone nor iPad. :(
